Main Characters

Professor Layton

A professor of Archaeology at the university. He is looking to unravel the mystery of his mentor's death by seeking out the Elysian Box.

Luke

Professor Layton's faithful apprentics. Luke is an animal lover.

Dr. Schrader

A former tutor of Professor Layton. He is a victim of the Elysian Box.

Flora

A young girl from the village of St. Mystere from Professor Layton and the Curious Village who has followed the professor and Luke on their adventure.

Inspector Chelmey

An inspector that is working on the case relating to Dr. Schrader's mysterious death. He openly dislikes Professor Layton and Luke's efforts to assist with solving the case. Barton is an officer that assists Inspector Chelmey.

Katia

Katia is the daughter of Mr. Anderson, an important person in Dropstone village. She has grown distant with her father and seems to want to travel to Folsense for an unknown reason.

Don Paolo

Don Paolo views Layton as his arch-nemesis and stole the Elysian Box to uncover its secrets. He even managed to disguise as Flora and swap places with her to get information about the professor's investigation.

Minor Characters

Anton

Anton is the son of Duke Herzen and the brother of Beluga. His father discovered the gold mine that made Folsense a wealthy town, but uncovered something more sinister that caused many to flee from Folsense. Anton is the current duke of Folsense, but the townspeople mistake him for a vampire.

Beluga

Beluga is the founder and owner of the Molentary Express. He is searching for the Elysian Box, hoping to find the Herzen family fortune. As a boss, Beluga is very demanding of his employees.

Granny Riddleton

A strange old woman who is able to collect wayward puzzles.

Sammy Thunder

Sammy is Beluga's nephew with a love for rock n' roll.

Tom

Tom is Babette's beloved pet.

Molentary Express

• Babette is a snobbish lady and a regular of the express.
• Capone is another guest on the Molentary Express, travelling along with his wife Mitzi.
• Chester is a waiter serving guests at the dining car of the express.
• Conrad is a guest that boarded the train from Dropstone, who likes to mimic his role model Marjorie, who is a teacher in Dropstone.
• Grousley is a passenger on the express and a friend of Beluga.
• Karla is another wealthy lady travelling on the train.
• Also on the train is Lili, a precocious girl visiting her grandmother on her own.
• Sally is the girl who pushes the snack cart on the express, while Hank is responsible for repairing any broken part of the express.
• The Molentary Express itself is a luxurious train known as the cruise ship on rails.

Macaroon is the chef on the Molentary Express. His beloved hamster is pampered and obese as he can't stop feeding it, and he asks Layton to help slim it down.

Dropstone

• Albert is the self-proclaimed trivia master of Dropstone.
• Angus maintains the carnival booths at Dropstone. He is the brother of Lulu, who helps him manage the booths.
• Balsa enjoys physical labor and is the wife of Gabe. Her husband is known as the best chef in Dropstone.
• Clabber is a dairy farmer and breeder who took part in Dropstone's livestock competition.
• Dorothea is one of the Anderson family's servants responsible for taking care of Katia.
• Jacques is the butler of the Anderson family who knows the family's secrets and history.
• Kostya is a villager of Dropstone who witnessed its founding.
• Lopez is the village fashionista and likes to analyze how others dress.
• Madeline is a villager with an unpredictable personality.
• Nick is a villager who sometimes act as a tour guide for visitors.
• Oscar is a dairy farmer and a participant of Dropstone's livestock competition.
• Parcelle is a fearless postman who delivers letters around Dropstone and even towns far away.
• Remy is a guard of the Anderson family's mansion, though he spends most of his time sleeping on the job.
• Romie is a traveler who wishes to solve the world's many mysteries.
• Winston the chauffeur of the Anderson family.
• Wurtzer is a friendly villager and a friend of Mr. Anderson.

Laurel is a farmer who grows herbs as tea ingredients. She will give Layton and Luke a tea set to learn tea brewing.

Folsense

• Narice is a fan of ghost-spotting and always seeks out news of paranormal activity.
• Dawson runs the town's antique shop.
• Derby is one of the few that moved in after Folsense was mostly abandoned.
• Duke and Niles are brothers.
• Dylan is a former miner working at the Folsense gold mine.
• Felix works as a bouncer at one of the upper-class restaurants at Folsense.
• Garland runs the grocery store, but his fear of vampires caused him to fill his shop with garlic strands. Marina is his daughter.
• Geoff stays at the watchtower. He is always keeping an eye on Herzen Castle for any vampire activity.
• Gertie is one of the best pancake makers in Folsense.
• Gregorio is a big fan of chess.
• Grinko is the curator at Herzen Museum.
• Hopper is a party animal who is always out-and-about.
• Joanie is a sweet young girl whose straightforward attitude makes her popular among tougher crowds.
• Joseph runs the photo studio and is known to pull pranks on others.
• Krantz runs the hotel Layton stayed in singlehandedly after other staff moved away.
• Lila always knows about the latest rumors and gossip.
• Nigel is Anton's loyal butler and the only servant remaining at Herzen Castle.
• Olson is a plain citizen with very poor eyesight.
• Opal is a long-time resident of Folsense who likes to recall Folsense's glorious past.
• Precious is an aggressive bulldog that guards the northeast alley of Folsense.
• Ray hangs out in the forest at the edge of town.
• Rory can always be found at the station, waiting for his girlfriend to return.
• Sophia is a former resident of Folsense and Anton's love interest.
• Ilyana works at the cabaret.

Two characters return from the previous game. Pavel is a world traveler who often gets lost in unfamiliar places, while Stachenscarfen makes a brief appearance to introduce you to the second part of the tea set minigame.

Puzzle

There are 10 characters that only appear in the illustrations for puzzles. These people never interfere with the story itself, and can act out any scene the puzzle requires, from workers to kings and from children to the elderly.

Extra

Damon appeared during the prologue to give you a tutorial on Hint Coins. The Laytonmobile is Professor Layton's preferred method of transportation.
