Stage[edit | edit source]

Each chapter takes place on a stage map that is grid-based. At the start of the stage, you can customize and place the units on the map. Not every chapter has a stage prep. Each stage has a set of victory and defeat conditions.

The gameplay is turn-based with a round consisting of a player turn followed by an enemy turn. During player turns, you move ally units into position to attack enemies, which transitions to a battle screen. During enemy turns, when an enemy attacks, you have a couple options on how to respond.

Response Cost Description
Counter SP 50 Perform counterattack with enemy block gauge at 0.
Defend SP 30 Reduces damage by half
Full Defend XP 50 Nullifies all damage
Nothing Unit takes full attack

Some stages have traps that trigger when a unit enters the tile. There are a variety of effects including damaging the unit, applying status effects, or healing the unit. Once triggered, the trap disappears.

If more than 99 rounds elapse in a stage, then a game over will occur.

Units[edit | edit source]

Like Project X Zone, characters are divided into pair units and solo units. During intermissions and certain story points, solo units can be assigned to pair units, providing solo attacks and additional skills. Each pair unit can equip one gear and one accessory.

On the stage map, the command menu can be brought up by pressing X button.
