QHQ Round 4 Overworld Map.png

The game shall then proceed to the overworld map of the fourth round displayed above as Gibson's black Porsche (and Broady's red Nissan 300ZX in a two-player game) appear on it at its start, with Jack Radolf's red sports car ahead of them; two rectangles containing the texts of "ROUND 4" and "STEP 1 NORMA 8" shall then come up into view from the bottom of the screen, which means you will have to answer eight questions correctly between you to proceed to the next step of the round. Four gift-wrapped boxes with the numbers 1 to 4 on them will now appear on the screen as the three-script text of Anata no unmei wo hiraku watashi no purezento. Sukinamono wo dōzo (あなたの運命を開く私のプレゼント。好きな物をどうぞ) is displayed upon the Taito Monitoring System above them (Nancy shall also speak it from the Yamaha YM-2610 below them) - and once you've pushed one of the Answer Buttons to choose a box, it will become a silhouette as one of four Katakana, Kanji or English texts appears upon it: Hazure (ハズレ, which means that the step's questions shall have four possible answers), 3-taku (3択, meaning the questions shall have three possible answers), 2-taku (2択, meaning the questions will have two possible answers), and JUMP (which means the step will be skipped). If you hesitate too long, the fourth box will get chosen automatically, but if the English text JUMP appears on it when it becomes a silhouette, it will be to your benefit as you are skipped over the first step to the gas station.

Step 1[edit]

Quiz H.Q. gift-wrapped box selection screen.png

As has just been mentioned above, four gift-wrapped boxes with the numbers 1 to 4 on them shall be displayed on the screen at the start of this step, as the three-script text of Anata no unmei wo hiraku watashi no purezento. Sukinamono wo dōzo (あなたの運命を開く私のプレゼント。好きな物をどうぞ) gets displayed upon the Taito Monitoring System above them (Nancy shall also speak it from the Yamaha YM-2610 below them); once you've pushed one of the Answer Buttons to choose a box, it shall become a silhouette as one of four Katakana, Kanji or English texts appears upon it: Hazure (ハズレ, which means that this step's questions shall have four possible answers), 3-taku (3択, meaning the questions shall have three possible answers), 2-taku (2択, meaning the questions shall have two possible answers), and JUMP (which means the step will get skipped). If you hesitate too long, the fourth box will get chosen automatically, but if the English text JUMP appears on it when it becomes a silhouette, it will be to your benefit, as you are skipped over this step to the gas station - however, if it doesn't, you will have to play this step, and answer eight questions correctly between you in order to proceed to it.

Once you have answered eight questions correctly between you Gibson's (or Broady's) car shall catch up on Radolf's; however, a picture of Radolf and the Hiragana/Kanji text Nakanaka ī ude shi teru ze antara (なかなかいい腕してるぜあんたら) will appear on that Taito Monitoring System at the top of the screen as his car speeds off the right side of it and the cops come to a gas station (the first of two on the round, as the second one comes after Step 3).

Quiz H.Q. gas station.png

Four petrol pumps will then appear on the screen, as the Kanji/Hiragana text Sukina bangō no hokyū wo ukete. (好きな番号の補給を受けて。) appears above them; once you have pressed one of the Answer Buttons to choose a pump, it shall become a silhouette as either the Katakana text Suka (スカ, which means you won't receive anything), or Supanā + X (スパナー+X, with X ranging from 1 to 3, which means that you will receive between one and three additional life-wrenches) appears on it. The screen shall then return to the round's overworld map as Gibson (and Broady in a two-player game) pursue Radolf to Step 2 - and two rectangles containing the texts "ROUND 4" and "STEP 2 NORMA 8" will then come up into view from the bottom of the screen which means you'll have to answer eight questions correctly between you (there'll also be another gift box selection screen before it starts, which means that if the English text JUMP appears on your chosen box it'll again be to your benefit as you are skipped over the step to the beer bar).

Step 2[edit]

Once you have answered eight questions correctly between you, Gibson's (or Broady's) car shall catch up on Radolf's for a second time; however, the image of Radolf and the three-script text Hō, yoku oitsuite kita monda (ホウ、よく追い付いてきたもんだ) shall appear on the Taito Monitoring System at the screen's top as his car speeds off its right side again and the cops come to a beer bar (the first of two on this round, as the second is after Step 4):

ここはカジノだよ。 (Koko ha kajinoda yo.)
好きなカードをめくって同じ種類 (Sukina kādo wo mekutte onaji shurui)
のカードを次々めくると、とって (No kādo wo tsugitsugi mekuru to, totte)
もすてきなアイテムがもらえるよ。 (Mo sutekina aitemu ga moraeru yo.)
Translation: This is a casino. If you turn over the cards you like and flip through the same kind of cards one by one, you can get a very nice item.
Quiz H.Q. beer bar.png

Four rows of four cards shall then appear on the screen; once you have pressed one of the Answer Buttons to choose one on the first row, it will reveal either a picture of Gibson, Broady, Nancy, or Taito's triangular logo (introduced 1988) as the text "START" appears on your side of the screen. You will then have to do the same for one on the second row - and if it matches the first one, the text "TWIN" will appear on your side of the screen (however, if it's different to the first one, you'll lose and the Kanji/Hiragana text Zan'nen jikai ni kitai, 残念次回に期待, will appear on the screen). But in the case of it matching the first one, you will have to do the same thing again for one on the third row; if it matches the first two, the text "AGAIN" will appear on your side of the screen (but if it doesn't, you'll again lose and the three-script text of Mei aitemu no setsumei shimasu, 名アイテムの説明します, shall appear on the screen with the three-script text of Tsugi no suteppu nomi tokuten 2-bai 次のステップのみ得点2倍 below it, which means your score for the next step will be doubled). But in the case of it matching the first two, you have to do the same thing once again for one on the fourth row - and if it matches the first three, that text "CURE" shall appear on your side of the screen, and you shall win, as that three-script text of Mei aitemu no setsumei shimasu (名アイテムの説明します) is again displayed on the screen with the two additional three-script texts of Tsugi no suteppu nomi 2-kai kotae rareru (次のステップのみ2回答えられる), and Ittei jikan ote tsuki sutokku genzan nashi (一定時間おてつきストック減算なし) below it, which means the questions for the next step only require two right answers, and you'll retain your present amount of life-wrenches. However, if it doesn't match the first three, you'll once again lose, and only the first two three-script texts that have just been mentioned will appear on the screen; you will also automatically lose if the timer below the cards runs out. Because the placement of the cards is randomly-generated, it is very difficult to turn over four matching cards in a row, even when you are using MAME to play, as savestates are not supported for Taito F2 games, and if you try to load one after saving it, the game shall abort. The screen shall now return to the round's overworld map as Gibson (and Broady, in a two-player game) pursue Radolf to Step 3 - and two rectangles containing the texts of "ROUND 4" and "STEP 3 NORMA 8" shall come up into view from the bottom of the screen which means that you shall have to answer eight questions correctly between you (however, if you uncovered three matching cards the 8 in the second rectangle will read as a 2 instead).

Step 3[edit]

If you hesitate too long, the fourth box will get chosen automatically, but if the English text JUMP appears on it when it becomes a silhouette, it will be to your benefit, as you are skipped over this step to the gas station - but if it doesn't, you'll have to play this step, and answer eight (or two) questions correctly between you in order to proceed to it.

Once you have answered eight (or two) questions correctly between you, Gibson's (or Broady's) car shall catch up on Radolf's for a third time; however, the image of Radolf and Hiragana text of Yaru ne antara, daga madamadada na (やるねあんたら、だがまだまだだな) will appear on the Taito Monitoring System at the top of the screen as his car speeds off its right side once again and the cops come to another gas station (refer to the section on Step 1). The game shall now return to the overworld map as Gibson (and Broady in a two-player game) pursue Radolf to Step 4 - and two rectangles containing the texts "ROUND 4" and "STEP 4 NORMA 8" shall come up into view from the bottom of the screen which means that you again have to answer eight questions correctly between you (there will also be a fourth gift-wrapped box selection screen before it begins, meaning that if the English text of JUMP appears on your chosen box when it becomes a silhouette, it'll once again be to your benefit, as you are skipped over the step to the second beer bar).

Step 4[edit]

Once you have answered eight questions correctly between you, Gibson's (or Broady's) car shall catch up with Radolf's for a fourth time; however, the picture of Radolf and the Hiragana/Kanji text Sugoi na, ore wo koko made oitsumeru to ha) (すごいな、俺をここまで追いつめるとは) shall appear on the Taito Monitoring System at the screen's top as his car speeds off its right side yet again and the cops come to another beer bar (refer to the section of Step 2). The screen shall then return to the overworld map as Gibson (and Broady in a two-player game) pursue Radolf to Step 5 - and two rectangles containing the texts of "ROUND 4" and "STEP 5 NORMA 8" shall come up into view from the bottom of the screen which means that you shall have to answer eight questions correctly between you (however, if you uncovered three matching cards the 8 in the second rectangle will read as a 2 instead). This step's questions also again only have two possible answers, so there will not be a gift box selection screen before it starts, and it must be played.

Step 5[edit]

Once you have answered eight (or two) questions correctly between you, Gibson's (or Broady's) car shall catch up with Radolf's for a fifth time, however, the picture of Radolf and the three-script text Ore to shōbu? Ha, yame toke yo (俺と勝負? ハ、 やめとけよ) shall appear on the Taito Monitoring System at the screen's top as his car speeds off its right side for a fifth time and the cops' cars just stop. The image of Radolf will now reappear on the screen as the three-script text of Tokuina janru wo erande, kakatte ki na. (得意なジャンルを選んで、かかって来な。) appears on the Taito Monitoring System above it - and four neon signs of Kanji and Katakana texts (which represent different question categories and are randomly-generated) shall now appear on the screen. Once you've pushed one of the Answer Buttons to select one of the categories its sign will light up; the screen will then proceed to a chase-view shot of Gibson's (and Broady's in a two-player game) cars and the Special Investigation Department helicopter pursuing Radolf's car, as the three-script text Tokubetsu hokyū wo okonau. Sukina hako wo erabe. (特別補給を行なう。 好きな箱を選べ。) appears on that Taito Monitoring System above it. The game shall then automatically proceed to the round's sixth step (which, for the penultimate time, has a parachute box selection screen before it begins).

Step 6 ("BATTLE")[edit]

Quiz H.Q. parachute box selection screen.png

At the start of this step, four parachute boxes with the numbers 1 to 4 on them shall appear upon the screen, as the three-script text of Tokubetsu hokyū wo okonau. Sukina hako wo erabe. (特別補給を行なう。 好きな箱を選べ。) appears on the Taito Monitoring System above them; once you've (both, in a two-player game) pressed one of the Answer Buttons to choose a box, it shall become a silhouette as either the Katakana text of Hazure (ハズレ) or the English text STOCK + ? appears on it. In the case of the former, the Kanji text of "Zan'nen! Hokyū kansei" (「残念! 補給失敗」) shall appear to the right of the box on the screen (which means you will not receive anything) but in the case of the latter, the three-script text of "Sutokku ga X ko kaifuku" (「ストックがX個回復」 with X again ranging from 1 to 3) will appear to the right of it instead (which means you will receive between one and three additional life-wrenches) - and the screen will then return to the chase-view shot of Gibson's (and Broady's, if it is a two-player game) cars pursuing Radolf's from the end of the previous step (only without the Special Investigation Department helicopter) as the step's first question is asked. Every time either player answers a question correctly in the step Gibson (or Broady in the case of Player 2) will use his car's Turbo Booster to catch up with Radolf's and ram it; once you have answered a total of ten questions correctly between you it'll burst into flames and stop. The screen will now cut to a shot of Gibson (and Broady, in an instance of a two-player game) arresting Radolf as the three-script text of Sagi-shi, Jakku Radorufu wo genkōhan de taiho suru. (サギ師、ジャック=ラドルフを現行犯で逮捕する。) appears upon the Taito Monitoring System above it and Nancy shall now reappear to introduce a bonus game:

あなたの銃の腕を試して下さい (Anata no jū no ude wo tameshite kudasai)
4つのターゲットの中から一人 (4tsu no tāgetto no naka kara hitori)
銃を持っている者を探し、ボタ (Jū wo motte iru mono wo sagashi, bota)
ンを押して射撃してください (N wo oshite shageki shite kudasai)
Translation: Try the arm of your gun. Please find out who has one gun from among the four targets, and push the button to fire.
Quiz H.Q. bonus game.png

The screen shall then cut to a shot of four broken windows as a target of a criminal appears in one of them while three more targets of innocents appear in the others (the text below the windows shall also change from "READY" to "SHOT!!" after the targets appear); once you've pushed the Answer Button corresponding to the window the target of the criminal is in, a bullet hole shall appear on the target and you will receive 1000 points (both players' points are displayed at the bottom of the screen, while their classes which start at Junsa 巡査 and progress to Junsa Buchō 巡査部長 after shooting six targets of criminals are displayed at the top of it). However, if you accidentally press any Answer Button corresponding to a window a target of an innocent is in, a bullet hole will again appear on it, but you won't receive any points for it - and after ten lots of four targets, the game shall proceed onto the fifth round.

Note: The English texts POWER x 2 and POWER x 3 may also appear on the parachute boxes when they are selected, for which cases the three-script text "2/3-bai no damēji wo ataemasu.", 「2/3倍のダメージを与えます。」, shall appear to the right of them on the screen (which means that each time a player answers a question correctly, and their cop uses his Turbo Boost to ram Radolf's car, it will deal twice or thrice as much damage to it, so you will only have to answer a total of five for 2x damage or four for 3x damage questions correctly between you in order to make it burst into flames and stop).
