City in Ruins[edit]

As you progress through this stage, many sections of the walls will explode when you shoot them. The explosions are dangerous, so you should not allow the R-9a to get too close to them. In all other ways, this stage is fairly straightforward, with a majority of enemies appearing from the right, and a few appearing from the left. When you approach the entrance, a stream of red ships fly out from the right to greet you. Walking missile launchers will appear on the ground, and flying alien mechs will appear from the top, as well as from behind. The first transport will appear below a low platform, and provide you with Reflection Lasers, which are a good choice for this stage.

Alien mechs and walking armors will continue to appear for a while, before a red compacted piece of trash floats through the middle of the stage from left to right. Naturally, you should avoid collision with it. You can also take the time to shoot at it, as you can destroy it eventually with enough shots. More enemies will arrive from the right while the trash advances. The stage will split into three pathways, and another transport will appear as the trash flies through the middle path. This transport contains the Anti-Air Lasers, which may not be as useful as the Reflection Lasers in this stage. As it appears, a few red laser firing ships will appear, which you must be careful to avoid.

As the trash makes its way to the far right, more and more enemies will appear from behind. It’s not a bad idea to attach the Force to the rear of the R-9a, or detach it and allow it to float behind you while you advance to the right side of the screen. Be sure to bring it back ahead of you as you pass below the low hanging ceiling. Some alien mechs will fly in, but the real danger are the two squads of brown ships which will fly in from the top and the middle paths. You can either try to take them out from the top, or follow the middle path, where they are less likely to bother you. As they follow you into the next chamber, red ships and a large number of walking missile launchers will await you. A power-up transport will arrive to provide you with a Bit if you need one. Then you will fly into the boss chamber. A large hover mech will appear to battle with you while you reach the end of the stage.

Bronco[edit]

R-Type S7 boss.png

The boss of this stage appears to be a large refuse recycling center. Five yellow chutes line the ceiling, dumping trash into the pile below. The trash seems to fall into the ground, as the pile on the bottom does not rise, but the you must shoot down, or avoid, every piece of trash that falls.

There is a safe spot on the screen. There are air vents in the background , with 6 green vertical slats. Where the first vent is at the top left, position your ship so that the rear of it sits *exactly* on the fourth slat from the left. You will not be hit by any falling trash.

In addition to the threat of falling trash, there is a mechanical object that looks like a periscope that rises from the debris at the bottom to shoot at you from time to time. The periscope appears in random positions.
If you are fully powered up then the focus of your attack is the object on the far right that appears with a piece of junk in a claw. You can shoot the junk, but the weak point of the object is the blue dome near the top. Shoot this dome as much as possible while it appears to defeat the boss. It's even possible to park the ship just below the ceiling so that the Force touches the dome and destroys it. If you don’t shoot it at all, or take to long, you can also win by surviving the ordeal long enough for the trash to stop falling.

If you are not fully powered up it is better to try and time this boss out as occasionally power ups will fall from the ceiling. Position yourself in the safe spot (fourth slat along from the left most vent) and go low down the bottom of the screen. When the periscope rises up, shoot it. If it appears behind you, you move vertically upward and back down to avoid its shots. If you have the bouncing lasers and you think the periscope is going to appear behind you, pause firing for a second then when the periscope appears press fire. A laser will fire horizontally to the right, reflect off the wall and move left and destroy the periscope.

You can score a lot of points by timing out this boss, so it's recommended to do that instead of shooting the blue dome in the claw.
