Rally-X Arrangement gameplay.png

Once you have inserted your coin into the cabinet of Namco's 1996 compilation arcade game Namco Classics Collection Vol. 2, and pressed either Start Button, the game selection menu shall appear upon Pac-Man; once you have pushed the joystick to the right to select Rally-X and pressed the button to confirm your choice, the Rally-X mode selection menu will appear upon "Original" mode (a recreated version of the original Rally-X, that is modified for a vertical monitor), so you will have to push your joystick to the right to select "Arrangement" mode, and press the button to confirm your choice. Once you have done so, the text "PUSH START BUTTON. 1 PLAYER ONLY. CREDIT 1." will appear on the screen - and, if you press the 2 Player Start Button at this point, the text "1 PLAYER ONLY" will turn red to emphasize it until you let go of it. Once you've pushed the 1 Player Start Button, the game will start.

The first and second rounds are set in a park, and contain one and two Formula-variety red cars respectively; in addition to rocks, you shall also have to watch out for bridges (which you can go over while a red car is going under and vice-versa), and randomly-placed oil slicks (which will cause your car to spin around for a second if it passes over them). The third round is the first bonus round (or "Challenging Stage"), which is set on a ranch, and you shall have thirty seconds to collect ten baseless yellow triangular flags while avoiding the walls (which are made up of rocks, but you shall merely be repelled off them if you hit them) and pass through a goal gate - and if you manage to do it, you will receive a "Goal In Bonus" of 5000 points and a "Fuel Bonus" of 100 points for every litre of fuel you have remaining (however, if you do not, you will not receive any kind of bonus but still proceed to the next round).

The fourth, fifth and sixth rounds are set in a desert, and while the first two both contain two Formula-variety red cars (and one Touring-variety one), the third one contains one Touring-, one Drag-, and one Neo Formula-variety (the second of which does not appear on the radar unless you collect an Item Flag when the next item box at the bottom of the screen's showing RADAR during the round); the seventh round's also the second "Challenging Stage".

The eighth, ninth, and tenth rounds are set in an ancient Egypt-style ruin, and while the first one contains five Formula-variety red cars, the second one has three Formula-, one Touring- and one Drag-variety and the third one has two Formula-, one Touring-, one Drag- and one Neo-Formula variety; you will also have to use the red "warp holes" to warp from one part of the maze to another (the blue ones are where they lead to) but you will have to learn where each one leads to, when you use them, and you might frequently find yourself running out of fuel the first few times you reach these rounds as a result. The eleventh round's also the third and last "Challenging Stage" - and if you lose the only way you can redeem yourself is by finishing the game.

The twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth rounds are set on a mountain and they all contain three Formula-variety red cars (in addition to one Touring-, one Drag- and one Neo Formula-variety one); however, the fifteenth and final round is set in a city and contains four Formula-variety red cars (in addition to one Touring-, one Drag- and one Neo Formula-variety one). Once you have collected all ten flags the text "GO TO THE GOAL!" shall appear at the top of the screen (indicated by the black flashing dot that has appeared on the radar) - and once you have passed through the goal gate (marked FINISH), the text "NAMCO RALLY-X CHAMPIONSHIPS" will appear on the screen with "RESULT" under it. You will then receive a "Stock Car Bonus" of 10000 points for every life you have remaining, and a "Special CP Bonus" of 1000 points for every round you collected that Special Flag first on without dying; the text of "USED SMOKE SCREEN XXX" (XXX being the amount of smoke screen you used) and "PLAY TIME XX'XX"XXX" (XX'XX"XXX being your playing time) will then appear below it. You can now sit back and enjoy the ending credits which are identical to those of the other two "Arrangements":

After the credits have finished, the game will go into high-score mode; your score will most likely be the highest one on the cabinet to date so you should enter your initials at the top of the table with pride. Once you have done it, the game will go back into attract mode - and put an end to the Rally-X series.
