The game first starts with Ratchet and Clank playing some sort of chess game with Clank winning. Suddenly Clank remembers that his show is on and switches the channel to Secret Agent Clank . After the episode, Ratchet asks him to change the channel, as he is only shown as the clumsy sidekick. After Clank refuses, Ratchet grabs the remote and changes it to Channel 2, which is showing a live coverage of Ratchet's home planet Veldin being attacked by an alien race known as the Tyhrranoids (terr-ah-noyds). Apparently, they are being ordered by an evil robotic super genius known as Dr. Nefarious. While the Galactic Rangers are fighting back, they are really no use in the struggle. Darla Gratch signs off, and Ratchet, apparently infuriated by this move against his planet, declares that they must return home immediately to help his planet.

As they are getting ready for take-off, Clank complains about how they are a galaxy away from Veldin. Ratchet, undaunted, prepares the (untested) Gravimetric Warp Drive. Clank is not confident about the device, but is proven wrong as they arrive at Veldin.

Save Veldin![edit]

  • Starts: Automatically

A nice and easy tutorial for the game. As soon as you land, you will be greeted back home and will see a duo of Rangers fighting off some 'noids. Don't bother helping them, they'll finish them off themselves and run over a ledge. Don't follow them just yet, take a moment to look around and smash any boxes with your wrench (Square button). After you have scoured the area for spare bolts and crates, go over the ledge to meet the Rangers.

The Rangers greet you, their new Sergeant, and give you you your first weapon, the Shock Blaster. Straight afterwards, a Tyhrranoid in a green exoskeleton comes around the corner. The Rangers wuss out and run off leaving you to deal with it. Shoot it into pieces with the Shock Blaster (Circle button).

After that ordeal, go around the corner. You will see another Tyhrranoid in an exo and some itsy-bitsy Tyhrranoids across a gap. You can easily take them out from a distance with the Shock Blaster and continue across. On the next ledge up, there is another 'noid in an exo. You should know what to do from here.

Continue along the pathway and you will see two Rangers getting attacked by those tiny terrors. Take them out with your wrench. The Rangers declare that that vehicle in the hanger is blocking their progress. Ratchet volunteers to take it out, and the Ranger gives him the Nitro Launcher, and then offers to cover him "from back there".

Taking out the vehicle is easy, one shot from where you're standing with the Nitro Launcher will do the trick.

Get the ammo and Nanotech behind the hole in the floor, then fall into the hole. Some small Tyhrranoids are coming for you. Use the wrench and you'll kill them easily. Continue down the tunnel and you'll find four Rangers attacking a Tyhrranoid in a black exo on a column. These ones are tougher and take more hits to kill. Either the Shock Blaster or Nitro Launcher will do. Collect all the bolts, destroy the crates and continue to the next area. There is a green-exo 'noid and another one of those vehicles. Destroy them any way you choose, however just as your finishing off the leftovers, a Tyhrranoid dropship comes in and releases two more green-exo 'noids. Take them out, AND the one on the ledge above.

In the next area, it's pretty much the same deal, except there are a lot of little 'noids and a green-exo. Take out the green-exo first, then use the wrench on the little guys. Continue over the small bridge and you will find some Rangers attacking three green-exo 'noids. They don't seem to be having much luck, so give them a hand. Take them all out any way you please and follow the Rangers to the Dropship.

Ratchet enquirers how the mission is coming along, and the brave Ranger explains they are going to assault the main Tyhrranoid base. The other Ranger decides to wuss out and walk away. However, Ratchet, as their new Sergeant, reminds them that the planet is in danger and orders him to focus on the task at hand. Ratchet then gets in the Dropship with the Rangers, and the Dropship begins its flight to F-Sector.

Eliminate the Enemy Forces[edit]

After the brief flight, Ratchet and the Rangers jump out and start skydiving. This is a pretty simple affair, as all you have to do is move around with Neutral lstick to dodge the missiles. This is easy, and you should land without a scratch.

The Tyhrranoids come in several waves, so be alert. As well as the helpful warnings from the Rangers you can also look at the map in the bottom-right corner of the screen to locate the Tyhrranoids. The first wave is all stuff you've seen before, nothing new. The second wave come from behind some rubble and introduces some two-eyed green Tyhrranoids with little plasma pistols. Take them out, preferably with the Shock Blaster. After that, it's all just stuff you've done before. After the dust has settled, head through the open doorway.

After getting the ammunition, climb up the top ledge. Stay behind the cover provided, as a flying 'noid vehicle will come up and start firing at you. Strafe using L2 button or R2 button while shooting and it will go down in a flash. Continue across the now-extended bridge to the Dropship.

The Rangers inform you that the Galactic President wants to talk to you. However, the President seems a bit delusional about who is the hero here. Nevertheless, he informs them that while Veldin may now be safe, the battle is far from over, as you still need to find Dr. Nefarious, the evil robotic supervillain who ordered the Tyhrranoid attack on Veldin, and for that, they may need the help of the one person ever to have faced him and survived. He then shows you a trailer of an episode of Nature's Mysteries, which apparently has a documentary on the so-called Florana Tree Beast, a vaguely familiar-looking creature who apparently lives in the deep jungle growth of planet Florana.

Ratchet isn't exactly convinced that that guy could help them, but the President reminds him that its the only lead they have, so full steam ahead. Hearing this, Ratchet takes off for Florana.
