Chabri plains[edit]

The seer[edit]

His hut can be found in the north-east forest. Pay him 100 Gold Sovereigns.

The Seer says that there are:

  1. birds of great stature (sandroc)
  2. ogres of ill-demeanor (ogre & ogress)
  3. trolls with insatiable greed (bridge troll)
  4. evil creatures of the night (werewolf and perhaps manticora)

Then he adds: "Be ye especially wary of that which is not" ("not... in the list above" means not existing at all: they are illusions).

Two ogres and a troll[edit]

The ogress lives in a shipwreck on the west coast. When she hugs Gorn, the "ogress smell" is an item that remains invisible in the inventory.

To the south is a bridge troll. Before attempting to pass his bridge, drop all items except for 20 Gold Sovereings and the waterskin.

An ogre lives beyond the troll bridge. Normally, he will kill you and Gorn, unless your companion has the ogress smell. Then, lead the ogre back to the ogress, they will both leave, and you can get two items inside the shipwreck.

The river[edit]

The river is to the west. Follow the canyon edge south-west, until you can follow the river bank to the north. Enter the cave and collect the three items.

The sources of force[edit]

Ba-arachna[edit]

"Arachna" refers to the ancient Greek word for "spider".

From the 8-way intersection, go east into the forest, then proceed south-west to the salt lick (the white crystal). Set the trap, leave and come back after a dozen turns. You will find a small boar: take it and leave.

From the 8-way intersection, go north-west. Give the boar to the manticora, then continue north-west until the end of the road.

Visit the sandroc nest in the desert, and get the feathers. If the sandroc is in the nest, wait until it leaves.

Climb the mountain (arcade mini-game). At the top, put the ruby on the staff, and enter the cave. Inside, there is a spider (αράχνη "arachne" in Greek) inside a glass bubble: say the corresponding magic word to banish it, then touch what is left with the ivory ring.

Ba-pyro-snaca[edit]

"Pyros" is ancient Greek genitive "of fire", "snaca" is old Germanic dor "snake".

First of all, you need the sandroc feathers found in the desert (see above, #Ba-arachna).

Go south-west to the ferry. Tie the rope to an arrow, then shoot it to the pole on the other side: now you can use the ferry and cross the river. Go south avoiding the quicksand area, and enter the falconhead-shaped building. Talk to the man inside, and give him what he asks for, so that he will give some wings in return.

Return to the 8-way intersection and go nord. Jump into the fire chasm, and the wings will allow to float (arcade mini-game). At the bottom, you will find a fire snake ("pyros snaca"): say the corresponding magic word to banish it, then touch what is left with the ivory ring.

Ba-fenris[edit]

"Fenris" (also known as "Fenrir") is a huge wolf in Germanic mythology.

The geyser in the eastern forest has an animated image for a reason: look at it, and you will find a silver dagger. Get it, then go to the south-east island.

According to folklore, a werewolf can only be killed with silver. Therefore, tell Gorn to fight the island werewolf using the aforementioned dagger. Past it, you will meet a giant wolf (Fenris): say the corresponding magic word to banish it, then touch what is left with the ivory ring.

The northern fortress[edit]

You and Gorn enter the labyrinth in the south-west corner (in green).
Lisa is in the red tile.
The shortest path is highlighted in yellow. Alternate but loger paths are in orange.

The three force sources have been dispelled. Now you can reach the fortress. As soon as you enter, you will be surrounded by darkness, and you will inevitably fall down on a ledge.

At the end of the labyrinth, you will find Lisa. Just approach her, and your Ivory Ring will do by itself all the necessary to neutralize the Chaos Ring.
