River City High Gym[edit]

When you enter the high school, you arrive at the gym. Naturally, there will be several gang members in here to greet you. There is also a lot of gymnastics equipment that you can jump on to disengage from the fighting if you need a break. Take out four gang members, and Otis will show up through the doors on the right side of the gym. He won't take kindly to you scuffing up his gym floor with your shoes. Take him out in the usual way and he'll decide you can keep your shoes on.

Otis doesn't prevent you from advancing further into River City High, but you won't be able to face the final boss unless you defeat him. Once you do, your ultimate goal is to reach the doorway at the top of the gym. To do that, you'll need to leap onto the variety of objects in the background that lead you to the basketball hoops, which you can also jump on. From the hoop, you can jump up to the balcony above and make your way to the door.

You arrive on the first main floor of the high school through the door on the left. The first floor is a long hallway of classrooms, with a staircase to the second floor on the left side. There are gang members here for you to fight, but the truth is the first floor isn't all that important. You can fight the opponents here if you want to, but it won't benefit you except for some cash, so you might as well immediately climb the stairs to the second floor.

River City High Floor 2[edit]

The second floor looks nearly identical to the first floor, but fighting here is much more consequential; you have another boss to defeat before another will make an appearance on the third floor. Take out four gang members on this floor and Tex will show up by the staircase.

Tex carries a stick, and if you give him the chance, he will use a powerful spinning attack with it that should be avoided at all costs. Keep Tex mopping the floor and don't give him a chance to get his sense back. If you knock him out, he'll mention that the Twins are waiting for you on the third floor.

River City High Floor 3[edit]

The third floor is a bit longer than the first and second. There are large double doors on the far right side of the floor. It is through these doors that the Twins will attack you, but only if you have defeated Otis in the Gym, and Tex on the second floor. If these conditions are not met, the Twins will not appear.

If you have beaten Otis and Tex, take out four gang members on this floor and head for the double doors. If you've played other beat'em up games on the NES, the tune that begins may sound familiar. It is the theme song to one of Technos most famous fighters, Double Dragon. In fact, when twins Randy and Andy appear, they refer to themselves at the Dragon Twins. And now it's time for you to defeat them.

Randy and Andy are no Jimmy and Billy, but they are tough. They are very fast, love to block your attacks, and have a devastating whirl wind kick move. They also appear to be able to perform a low roundhouse that sweeps you off your feet. When you are knocked down, they will happily lift you up and hurl you around the floor. Do your best to knock them down and keep them down for as long as possible. Keep wearing them down until they give up and drop their money. Once defeated, you are free to head through the double doors and onto the rooftop.

River City High Rooftop[edit]

Once you access the roof, head to the left to reach the climactic battle against... Simon, your former friend. Simon despises you and is jealous of your ability. And he's ready to show you just how much he hates you in a battle to the death on the rooftop.

In truth, fighting Simon is no different than fighting any of the other bosses that you've faced so far. He starts off with a lead pipe and has no problem bashing your skull with it. You can get him to drop it, but he'll happily pick it back up if you don't. As with any boss, you can knock them on the ground and virtually keep them pinned to the spot by attacking them as soon as they stand back up. If you repeat this technique enough times, Simon will be defeated and you will save your girlfriend and the world. Congratulations.
