Controls[edit]

  • O and P: For the ZX, CPC and C64 versions, you will have to use these two keys to make Ruff walk (or swim) left and right; you can also press Space to make him jump (or thrust), and 1 to pause the game. When the game is paused, you can also press Q to abort, but you should only do this if you have no chance of winning - and for the Atari 8-bit and Amiga versions, you will have to use a joystick instead (and you cannot pause).

Ruff[edit]

Hanna-Barbera's second-ever cartoon cat (after Tom, as in "and Jerry", who themselves had starred in an unofficial game entitled "Tom and Jerry 2" in 1989) is the protagonist of this game; after agreeing to test Professor Flipnoodle's Pocket Rocket, something went wrong, and the rocket headed off into deep space. When it crash-landed on the planet of the Lilli-Punies, they kidnapped both Ruff and Reddy (even though that latter's voice actor, Charles Dawson "Dawes" Butler, died in 1988), and told them they would only let them go if Ruff managed to rescue their missing friends - and when Ruff agreed the Lilli-Punies took him to the planet where their friends disappeared. He now has to make his way through the four areas of the planet, starting upon its surface, and progressing under it; for each one, he must solve various puzzles and rescue the missing Lilli-Punies (there are twenty in all). Ruff shall receive 100 points for every Lilli-Puny he saves and 500 points for every object he uses to solve a puzzle - and he shall also receive 50 points for every bouncing object he collects and 10 points for every second he has remaining at the end of an area.
