When you begin, you will start out at the very bottom of the map shown to the right. You only have one option.
- Move forward
- You will spot some elves, but any attempt to interact with them will send them scurrying away.

- You will see a building off in the distance.
- Move to the building
- In the bar, you find the barkeep and his daughter behind the counter.
- Talk to the barkeep
- He will offer you a drink.
- Take the liquor
- The barkeep gives it to you for free.
- Talk to the girl
- She mentions having dropped her key to the backdoor.
- Move out
- Move South
- Use Liquor
- The elves will indicate that they'd like to have the liquor and ask you to give it to them.
- Give Liquor
- Now they will stick around and allow you to talk with them.
- Talk to the elves ×2
- You will learn that a Light Mage named Saria lives in the forest, but she's a prankster and used her magic to hide the elves' elder.
- Move forward
- Move East
- You will see a large tree in the middle of the path.
- Look at the tree
- You will notice a large hole.
- Look at the hole
- You will discover a bird living in the hole.
- Use sword
- The glint of your sword will scare the bird away.
- Look at the hole
- You will locate the elder of the elves.
- Talk to the elder
- He will thank you and disappear.
- Move back
- Move South
- Look at the elves
- They will thank you for rescuing the elder by providing you with the All-Seeing Orb.
- Move forward
- Move North
- You will step on something.
- Look at the ground
- You will find a key.
- Take key
- Move East
- You will discover a cabin
- Check cabin
- An old man will appear and ask what you want. Any attempt to interact with him will garner no sympathetic response, and likely end with him asking you to leave.
- Look with the orb
- You will be able to see through the illusion that the old man is really a woman in disguise.
- Talk to the old man
- Saria will reveal herself.
- Talk to Saria
- She is the Light Mage you seek, but she will refuse to join you.
- Talk to Saria
- Some movement will occur, and Saria will discover that her spellbook is missing.
- Talk to Saria
- She thinks it was the elves and asks you to assist her.
- Move back
- Move North
- An elf will be standing before the mouth of a cave.
- Talk to the elf ×2
- The elf will deny having stolen the spellbook. Saria will not believe him, and he will claim it was the Lizard Beetle inside the cave.
- Move to the cave
- Saria will join you, but it's too dark to see anything.
- Talk to Saria
- She will recommend that she try casting a spell.
- Saria → Magic → Kiar
- Saria will cast a spell that illuminates the cave.
- Look at the ground
- You will discover a hole.
- Look at the hole
- You will notice something twinkle.
- Check the hole
- The Lizard Beetle will appear and attack.
- Fight
- You sword will shatter as a result.
- Move to escape
- You'll return to the cave entrance.
- Move back
- Move South
- Move to the building
- Give the key
- The girl will thank you.
- Check the bar
- You will notice a door in the back.
- Move to the backdoor
- You will discover an ax lying outside the bar.
- Talk to Saria
- She wishes for the ax.
- Give liquor
- Saria will try some.
- Saria → Magic → Sorip
- Sleeping gas will flow from the bottle.
- Saria → Magic → Winda
- A breeze will blow the gas into the bar and put the two occupants to sleep.
- Take the ax
- With the bartender asleep, you can take the ax.
- Move back
- Move out
- Move North ×2
- Move to the cave
- Saria → Magic → Kiar
- Check the hole
- The Lizard Beetle will reappear.
- Saria → Magic → Swirly
- This will slow down the Lizard Beetle's movements.
- Fight
- Using the ax, you will break through the shell.
- Saria → Magic → Bolt
- A lightning bolt will destroy the Lizard Beetle.
- Check the hole
- You will discover the spellbook.
- Talk to Saria
- She will demand that you hand over the book, and you ask her once again to help you. She will agree.
- Give the spellbook
- You give her the book and you advance to the next chapter.
