Toshiie Maeda (Lark in Devil Kings, where he is unplayable) is the husband of Matsu and the leader of the Maeda army, which itself serves the army of Nobunaga Oda (as Toshiie himself is a vassal). While he is able to inspire his men on the battlefield, in the household, Toshiie clearly falls under the command of his wife, who handles all the duties of a housewife. In his opening, Matsu stops him from eating her cooking before it's ready, only for both to see soldiers marching outside their doorstep. Matsu prepares Toshiie for war and pushes him out of the house, and a hungry Toshiie marches with the soldiers before being able to enjoy his meal, under her instruction. His hunger is made apparent after every battle, as his stomach growls and he whines about missing out on his meal. Toshiie begins his quest for unification with a decent amount of land, due to his allegiance with Nobunaga.

Toshiie's fourth skill, Flaming Leap, is his most useful, as it is quick, does good damage, and catches crowds and bosses alike. Toshiie is even able to repeat the move without being caught, so long as he isn't hit from the side by projectiles or a tricky boss. Toshiie's final skill, which he shares with Matsu, is also helpful, as the hawks that charge ahead of him are able to push back tough bosses with their power and cover big crowds with their range. His first skill is also shared with Matsu, and is simply a weaker version of his final skill; it can be helpful if he does not have access to better moves. His second and third skills can be helpful if started away from the reach of enemies, as they have a slow activation and are easily interrupted otherwise. Lastly, his Basara attack is most useful for crowds, as quick bosses can dodge out of its range (it only hits enemies in front of him, unlike Matsu's Basara attack, which hits all enemies surrounding her).

Toshiie's normal attacks aren't exceptionally quick but still, their speed is decent, making them useful in chaining together skills. A Square button-string of one to three normal attacks should suffice, followed by a jumping Square button or a Triangle button skill such as the Flaming Leap.
