Battles are turn-based and take place on an isometric grid. Each unit consists of a team of up three with the middle being the team leader. When the leader is defeated, the entire team is considered defeated even if a minion is still alive.
Battles are initiated by selecting them in the event list. They are indicated by a red exclamation point and blinking text. Free battles do not advance the time. They can be used to earn experience and macca and to crack skills for your characters. You can leave in the middle of a free battle and retain anything earned.
Before you begin a battle, you have the following options.
- Edit Team
- Assign characters and demons to a team and set skills
- Skill Crack
- Set skills to acquire when a demon is defeated
- Place teams on the field
- Start the battle
Characters and demons have affinities to each element that affect the damage received.
- Weak against element
- Strong against element
- Element has no effect
- Absorb attack
- Reflect attack
