Sonic Battle, with 10 characters, has the second most playable characters of any Sonic game, second to Sonic Heroes, with twelve.
Sonic the Hedgehog[edit]
Sonic is surprisingly not the main character of Sonic Battle. Sonic is out to stop Eggman's plans for Emerl. Some of his moves are influenced by breakdancing, as shown in Sonic Battle. When Emerl is overtaken at the end, Sonic is forced to defeat him. His location is Emerald Beach.
Knuckles the Echidna[edit]
Knuckles is the guardian of the Master Emerald. While he has very powerful attacks thanks to his punches and power of the elements of Earth, his speed is very slow, which makes him a tricky character to use. Knuckles' area is Chao Ruins.
Miles "Tails" Prower[edit]
Tails is Sonic's eternal sidekick. Tails' intelligence may match Eggman's; One of his attacks is called the 'IQ 400 attack', suggesting that his IQ is actually considerably higher than Eggman's IQ of 300. However, many game manuals state that his mechanical skills are only "almost equal" to Eggman's, or are "rivaling" the Doctor's, but also conclude saying that he has yet to reach his full potential. In Sonic Battle, he fights offensively with his tails and technology, such as a hand-mounted energy cannon. His specials included firing electrical energy with an arm cannon, setting "Chu2" bombs that seek out their target and causing a giant hand to appear and attack. His flying ability is present but very dumbed down, but it is made up with the fact that Tails has one of the best healing abilities in the game.
Tails' location is normally Tail's Lab, but in Emerl's Story, he is not available. Instead, he is replaced with Virtual Training. In Emerl's Story, you must go to the Beach to have a 10-KO Battle with Tails.
Shadow the Hedgehog[edit]
Shadow the hedgehog was an attempt by Eggman's ancestor, Gerald Robotnik, at creating the Ultimate Lifeform. Shadow uses air shoes and at high speeds rockets activate. This makes him even faster than Sonic. Rouge saves Shadow's life while they are investigating Dr. Eggman's secret base and takes him back to her home. His story is the penultimate, and he apparently teaches Emerl that his powers are not to be taken lightly.
In Sonic Battle, although he does not go into detail, Shadow talks about how the people of Earth must destroy him (and Emerl) if they ever want peace, still believing that he is a weapon. However it is revealed that he has the heart and soul of Professor Gerald Robotnik's granddaughter Maria ultimately, meaning he could not be the enemy of humanity.
In one of the Professor's journal entries, it mentions that "Project Shadow" was put on hold because of Project Gizoid, and that Shadow was completed approximately a week before the ARK was attacked. This could also mean however that while Shadow was alive on the ARK, he was still being experimented on and improved. His location is Central Highway.
Rouge the Bat[edit]
Rouge is a jewel thief and also a government agent sent to spy on Eggman. Rouge wants to use Emerl to get the Chaos Emeralds,and train him to become a master jewel thief. Rouge helps Shadow and Eggman by collecting the Emeralds for them, in exchange for a radar to help find the Master Emerald pieces. She uses a large number of kick-boxing moves as her basic attacks. She also claims to be an excellent opera singer as she uses her voice to attack with soundwaves, though this has not been mentioned since. She offers Shadow a place to stay during the events of Sonic Battle, her night club, Club Rouge.
One of Rouge's most obvious distinguishing characteristics in Sonic Battle is her flight ability, in the game referred to as "Gravity -2". While other characters have a double jump (achieved by pushing A twice, jumping higher with each push and then falling due to gravity), Rouge flies into the air and descends far more slowly with the first jump, and quickly lands on the ground when A is pushed again. Her location is Club Rouge.
Dr. Eggman[edit]
Eggman is out, once again, to conquer the world. He learns of the Gizoid, and tries to set him free. Eggman can't reactivate it, and ends up throwing it out. Once Emerl is activated, Eggman tries to recapture him. Before Emerl could settle down to a normal life, Eggman finished his Final Egg Blaster, placed on his newly rebuilt Death Egg, and threatened the Earth with it. He teleported there and defeated him, but due to the blaster, his true power awoke, causing him to rampage. His location is Eggman, obviously.
E-102 Chaos Gamma[edit]
E-102γ Chaos Gamma is the rebuilt version of E-102 Gamma, created from the salvaged parts of the original E-Series (despite seemingly exploding into nothing upon their destruction), appearing as an antagonist and playable character in Sonic Battle. While he has lacks the original Gamma's memories, he looks just like his original form, except his missile launcher, "102" decal and headlight are missing. While obtaining similar lock-on utilities as the original, Chaos Gamma fights by summoning various weapons unique to his model, including drills, electric shock prods which attach to his hands, and a grenade launcher which attaches to his shoulder. He is also powered by Chaos Emeralds, growing with intelligence with each piece as Emerl does, upon which he bitterly expresses that Dr. Eggman used Gamma's initial intended shard to activate the Gizoid. Desperate to re-obtain his "power", he goes after Emerl various times throughout the game, though after his final defeat, Cream reasons with the robot, explaining that a friendship involves sacrifice and sharing for the well-being of others. After some long thought, Gamma sacrifices his current shard to Emerl. His location is Depot.
Amy Rose[edit]
Amy is Sonic's number one fan and self-proclaimed "Girlfriend". Surprisingly, she is one of the strongest and most reliable characters in the game. All of her attacks contain large amounts of speed, power, and balance, her healing ability can quickly raise her HP, and she's the third fastest character. She takes the role of a mother figure for Emerl and teaches him how to boxercise and how it is important to protect those you care for. In-game dialog shows that her crush on Sonic has reached new heights - now she assumes that she wants to raise children with him (although her delusion this time really came from one of Tails comments). In the game, she is incredibly defensive about Emerl, crushing several E-121 Phi robots who try to destroy him, and often clashes with Rouge the Bat, who wants to use Emerl for herself. It is revealed that she got stronger as quick as she did by wearing weights whenever she trained, which eventually exhausted her. Her location is Amy's Room.
Chaos 0[edit]
Chaos was the guardian of the Master Emerald, the Chaos Emeralds, and the god of Chao, all of which were located on Angel Island. When Tikal's tribe attacked the shrine to steal the Emeralds, Chaos absorbed the Emeralds' power and the Echinda's Greed and Hatred, becoming Perfect Chaos, and destroyed the entire Tribe of Echidnas that inhabited the island. Chaos' shape changes as he absorbs Chaos Emeralds, and this is his natural state without any Emeralds, hence the name Chaos 0. Chaos also served as the ultimate enemy and main antagonist in Sonic Adventure other than Dr.Eggman. His location is Crater.
Emerl[edit]
Emerl is the main character in Sonic Battle. He is an ancient weapon, known as the Gizoid, created by Professor Gerald Robotnik. Gerald attempted to nullify his destructive programming, but failed. In an attempt to curb it, he gave it the same qualities as his other creation, Shadow the Hedgehog, a "soul" based on that of Gerald's granddaughter, Maria Robotnik. Emerl is able to form a link with different beings, who are considered powerful, allowing him to copy their personality traits, knowledge, and fighting abilities; he amplifies this copying ability by absorbing Chaos Emeralds. With each Chaos Emerald, his skills improve, and he even begins to speak properly. In the end, he faces Eggman, then he blows up a bunch of stars. Then Emerl absorbs all the energy and turns psychotic. Sonic is then forced to stop him. Then, Emerl disappears.
Cream the Rabbit[edit]
Cream is a young rabbit who always around with her best friend, Cheese the Chao. She is against any type of violence but whenever there are in trouble, Cream and Cheese does know they will have to stand up and protect their friends. She lives with Amy in Central City and she trained with Emerl when Eggman kidnapped them to lure Sonic into a trap.
While Cream command Cheese for all of her attacks which are not very powerful, she does have one of the best healing abilities in the game. Her support abilities are also very useful for defensive strategies. Her location is Central Lab.
