Controls[edit]

  • Q, A, O, and P: In the ZX and CPC versions of this game, use these keys to make Sooty (or Sweep if you are player 2) walk up and down stairs, and left and right; in the Commodore 64 and Amiga versions, you will have to use the arrow keys instead. However, in all four versions of the game, you shall have to use Space to make Sooty fire his magic wand (or Sweep fire his water pistol) at the insects to stun them, and Enter to (in a two-player game) to make them throw custard pies at each other to stun them in order to steal their bones (as this mode is semi-cooperative).

Characters[edit]

Sooty and Sweep[edit]

The protagonists of this game; Player 1 controls Sooty the bear (left), while Player 2 controls Sweep the dog (right). They must pick up all the bones that Sweep has left all around their house before the timer at the bottom of the screen runs out and Matthew returns - however, they can only pick up one bone at a time, and shall have to give it to Soo the panda (who, oddly enough, is present in every room) before they can go to another room. They must also avoid contact with the insects that patrol the rooms, but can temporarily stun them by firing their magic and water at them; there is also several items that they can collect to help them recover the bones and, for the Commodore Amiga version, gain extra points.

Soo[edit]

As mentioned above, Soo the panda is present in every room; once Sooty (or Sweep) has picked up a bone, he must give it to her so he can move on to the next room, and try to recover the next bone. Because the characters were hand puppets in the show, they did not have legs - but on account of the fact that they were given them so they could walk around here, Soo now wears a skirt to give a sense of false modesty.

Insects[edit]

Several types of insects patrol the rooms of the house, and if Sooty or Sweep should touch any of them, they will die; however, they can temporarily stun them by firing magic and water at them, the levels of which are indicated on the left and right sides of the screen. The ZX, CPC and C64 versions feature snails, bees and spiders - but the Amiga version also features ladybirds, centipedes and frogs (the last of which also come in two sizes: small and large).

Items[edit]

In the ZX, CPC, and C64 versions, there is a Key in the Front Room (with which Sooty and Sweep can unlock the doors); there is also a Sticky Bun in the Conservatory (which will attract all the insects in the room towards it), a Magic Wand in the Cellar (which will recharge Sooty's wand), and a Water Bottle in the Boxroom (which shall refill Sweep's water pistol) as well as a Pocket Watch in the Bathroom (which extends the time and sets Matthew's return back). However, these items are not present in the Commodore Amiga version - instead, there are extra point items which are identifiable by the fact that they bounce up and down (there can also be more than one bone in a single room for this version, but you can still only pick up one at a time).
