Space Invaders DX mode selection screen.png

Once you have inserted your coin into the cabinet of Taito Corporation's 1994 fixed shooter arcade game Space Invaders DX, you will proceed onto the mode selection screen shown above as the game's mode selection theme starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2610; push the joystick left and right to select one of the three modes then press the Firing Button to confirm your choice. If you select Normal Mode, you will now have to choose a cabinet type - Upright (with Backdrop), B&W Cocktail, B&W Cocktail (with Cellophane) and Colour Cocktail by pushing the joystick left and right to select one of the three modes, then pressing the Firing Button to confirm your choice. However, if you select Versus Mode, you and the other player will have ten seconds to select one of three difficulty levels (EASY, NORMAL, and HARD) by pushing the joystick left and right to select one of the three modes, then pressing the Firing Button to confirm your choice; if you select Parody Mode, the game will begin immediately (but it only changes the characters, to those of nine other Taito games: The NewZealand Story, The FairyLand Story, Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, Mizubaku Daibōken, Arkanoid, KiKi KaiKai, Darius and Don Doko Don). The main character of that seventh title, Sayo-Chan, reappears as one of the first-player characters in Akkanvader, which also references Darius in its second boss battle with the text "WARNING! A HUGE BATTLESHIP #106780 YAMATO IS APPROACHING FAST".
