Square was a game development and publishing company that merged with Enix to form Square Enix in 2003. Prior to the merger, the company had been in business for 20 years, releasing massively popular games such as Breath of Fire, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Xenogears, and many others.

It often used the brand name "Squaresoft."
