Fayt Leingod (Fate Linegod in Japan) is the main protagonist.

Statistics[edit]

Sex: Male
Age: 19
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 148 lbs
Race: Earthling
Weapon: Sword

Official Biography[edit]

He is an honest young man. Somber but extremely headstrong, his parents are the most renowned and highly respected scholars of symbolical genetics in the Pangalactic Federation. Fayt also studies Symbological Genetics in the Bachtein Science University, and while he is studious, he prefers playing sports and games to studying. He commits himself daily to martial arts practice in the "battle simulator." Although he can be stubborn at times, he is thoughtful and never abandons a person in need.

Information[edit]

The main character of Star Ocean 3, Fayt is a seemingly-normal college student from Earth. His father, Robert Leingod, is a famous authority on Symbological Genetics, a highly controversial scientific field, and does much of his work on the orbital colony of Moonbase. Fayt is somewhat lazy when it comes to his college work and takes every opportunity during his vacation to Hyda IV, a famous resort planet, to ignore that work; he does this mostly by playing games. Specifically, combat simulation holographic games. In spite of this, Fayt is a loyal and honorable young man who will never abandon someone in need of help. When Hyda IV is attacked and Fayt is lost on an underdeveloped planet, the combat "games" prove themselves as good practice with his weapon of choice: the sword.

Battle Performance[edit]

In battle, Fayt uses his sword and the majority of his attacks are short ranged. His HP and MP growth rates are above average, and he is capable of dealing notable amounts of both HP and MP damage with his Battle Skills. His Defense growth is the highest in the game, and he is the fastest runner in battle.

Learning Chart[edit]

As Fayt grows in levels, he gains new abilities. Due to additions through Star Ocean 3's Director's Cut, Fayt is now one of the few melee fighters that learns Symbology naturally. Battle Skills and Symbology are bolded, Support and Tactical skills are italicized.

Skill (level required) Battle/Symbology/Tactical

Battle Skills[edit]

Fayt's battle skills mostly involve directly attacking the enemy with his sword or enchanting his weapon for added properties.

  • Charge (4 CP)

JP: (No Change)
Range: Short only
Fayt rams into the enemy, causing both HP and MP damage.

  • Aerial (2 CP)

JP: (No Change)
Range: Short only
Fayt leaps into the air and knocks the enemy to the ground with a downward slash for both HP and MP damage.

  • Blade of Fury (4 CP)

JP: Blade Reactor
Fayt strikes through an energy-covered sword wiith a vertical slash. Further pressing the button will have him follow up with a second slash and a 2-hit lunge. Higher Mastery levels cuts the time between the slashes, allowing Fayt to perform them seemlessly at high speeds.

  • Blazing Sword (4 CP)

JP: Blaze Sword
Fayt engulfs his sword in flames, adding fire-elemental and MP damage to his normal attacks. Using another battle skill will cancel the effects. Higher Mastery levels will allow the skill to last longer.

  • Side Kick (2 CP)

JP: Reflect Strife
Fayt sidesteps and dives in a for a kick for up to 3 hits. The beginning of the attack grants Fayt a short amount of invulnerability.

  • Ice Blade (4 CP)

JP: Icicle Edge
Fayt enchants his sword in ice, adding water-elemental and MP damage to his normal attacks. Using another battle skill will cancel the effects. Higher Mastery levels will allow the skill to last longer.

  • Shotgun Blast (4 CP)

JP: Shotgun Bolt
Fayt creates a wall of miniature explosions ahead of himself for multiple hits. Fire-elemental.

  • Lightning Blade (6 CP)

JP: Lightning Bind
Fayt imbues his sword with the power of lightning, adding wind-elemental and MP damage to his normal attacks. Using another battle skill will cancel the effects. Higher Mastery levels will allow the skill to last longer.

  • Air Raid (7 CP)

JP: Vertical Airraid
Fayt leaps into the air with an uppercut slash of energy that knocks the enemy into the air as well, then sends the enemy back into the ground with a second powerful wave of energy for a wide damaging shockwave.

  • Dimension Door (6 CP)

JP: Strayer Void
Fayt charges in a void of energy, damaging anything in the vicinity, and teleports over to the nearest enemy, hitting them with an energy slash. Also damages MP and can cause paralysis.

  • Divine Blade (8 CP)

JP: Divine Weapon
Fayt's sword is blessed with holy power, adding non-elemental and MP damage to his normal attacks. It is the most powerful of all the sword enchantments. Using another battle skill will cancel the effects. Higher Mastery levels will allow the skill to last longer.

  • Ethereal Blast (8 CP)

JP: Iserial Blast
Fayt's sword turns into energy that surrounds his body as he leaps into the air. He grows wings and is covered in an aura of energy, which he unleashes in large beam on a concentrated area of the ground, which erupts into an enormous explosion. Causes massive HP and MP damage.

Symbology[edit]

Fayt can now learn four spells naturally through leveling as an addition to the Director's Cut. Also, in any version of the game, it is possible to teach Fayt the basic support and attack spells by using special tomes.

  • North American Spell Name (Japanese Name) — Description. (cost)
  • Lightning Blast (No Change) — Fayt sends a short stream of electricity in the general direction of his target. Wind-elemental. (10 MP)
  • Deep Freeze (No Change) — Encases a medium-sized area in ice. Water-elemental. (80 MP)
  • Stone Rain (Rock Rain) — A large stone explodes over the head of the enemy and rains rocks for a short amount of time in a wide area. Earth-elemental. (80 MP)
  • Explosion (No Change) — A globe of fire touches down and burrows into the ground before erupting into a large-scale explosion of fire. Fire-elemental. (300 MP)

Analysis[edit]

Fayt is the main character of Star Ocean 3, though in the beginning, he is not well-rounded for the role. His physical techniques such as Blade of Fury and Side Kick (which has invincibility time) are good, but only hit a few times; the majority of his magic techniques are elemental enchantments. His main weakness is that he possesses very few MP-damaging attacks, making him inadequate for bosses with a shortage of MP.

Later in the game, Fayt will acquire his Air Raid and Dimension Door battle skills. The Air Raid is a fast, multi-hit sword slash, comparable to many of Cliff and Nel's battle skills in terms of damage. Fayt's Dimension Door is the most useful area attack in the game. It has a large circular radius(making it great for crowd control), it stops the enemy's movement, it can cause paralysis, it can be held for multiple hits and its final hit is a powerful vanishing horizontal slash that does multiple times Fayt's normal attack damage.

In the hands of an expert, Fayt is unstoppable. He has the highest natural defense rating in the game. It is possible to build him up (with the Divine Avenger or Levantine sword and 7x Boots of Prowess) to the point in which no enemy can damage him, including the super bosses Lenneth and Freya. (This dependent on which difficulty level you are playing on.)

As far as the storyline goes, Fayt is considered a formidable swordsman, though the game strongly hints that Cliff Fittir, Nel Zelpher, Albel Nox and Mirage Koas are much more talented fighters than he is. However, Fayt and his companions did defeat Albel in the game's canon storyline. It is possible that Fayt's fighting skills progressed significantly throughout the game.

With the "Destruction" gene, Fayt possesses god-like powers. He was able to destroy a city-sized Vendeeni Starship by using a single Ethereal Blast. Later on, the Ethereal Blast can be acquired, and it is one of the most powerful battle skills in the game. With full control of his abilities, Fayt is quite possibly the most powerful human character in the Star Ocean Universe, including characters in Valkyrie Profile, Radiata Stories and the loosely connected Wolf Team games such as the Tales series.

Trivia[edit]

  • His 3P Costume pays homage to Claude C. Kenni, the protagonist of Star Ocean: The Second Story.
  • Jack Russel of Radiata Stories gains a Fayt costume after a certain scene. He also shares Fayt's victory pose when using a one-handed sword.
  • Fayt is the first main character in the series not to use the Edarl Sword Style.
  • His name is an obvious pun on the word Fate. His surname means "bowing to God" keeping in line with the religious themes and appellations found in the game.
