Enemy types[edit | edit source]

There are 32 distinct types of enemies in Star Soldier. Each enemy appears with a set number of squad members, and follows a particular path behavior. The following table lists every enemy, the number that appear, the number of shots needed to destroy them, and their point values. The diagram included with each enemy indicates the most likely path that each enemy will take. A yellow triangle in the diagram, if present, indicates the best course of action to escape harm. The enemies are shown in their order of appearance. See the enemy appearance tables below for more information on when to expect certain enemy encounters.

Boss Battles[edit | edit source]

Star Brain[edit | edit source]

At the end of most stages, you will encounter the Star Brain ship. The Star Brain hovers slowly above your ship, and fires Sopras at you. The Sopras drop down and wave back and forth. Sopras are invincible and block your shots, so your only option is to avoid them and shoot around them. You must fire 32 shots onto the core brain of the ship. If you do not succeed in this in the first 10 seconds of encountering the Star Brain, it will escape, and you will be sent back to the mid-way point in the stage. Upon encountering the Star Brain a second time, you have 30 seconds to destroy the brain before it begins to fire heat seeking fireballs at you. Once this begins, you must carefully dodge the fireballs while concentrating your fire on the brain as much as possible. You will earn 5000 points for destroying the core.

Big Star Brain[edit | edit source]

At the end of stages 4, 8, 12, and 16, you will encounter the Big Star Brain ship. It is a much larger ship that houses four cannons in addition to the brain core. You must destroy all of the cannons and the brain core to defeat it. Each cannon and the brain are worth 5000 points, for a grand total of 25,000 points if you defeat it. It behaves similar to a regular Star Brain ship, hovering back and forth, and sending Sopras at you to block your shots. Once you succeed in destroying the cannons, you can fire at the core. However, if you fail to destroy the core within the first 30 seconds of encountering the ship, you will be sent back to the mid-way point in the stage. When you encounter it a second time, all of the damage will be healed, and you must resume your fight. If you fail to destroy it a second time within 30 seconds, it will begin to fire heat seeking fireballs at you. Making every shot count is the key. While 5 direction firing can help you to extent in defeating the cannons, allowing yourself to be hit once so that you regain the double forward shots is advisable if you want to destroy the ship quickly.

Enemy appearance tables[edit | edit source]

Enemies in Star Soldier do not appear in a manner that is tied to the stage and location that you are presently in. Rather, enemies in Star Soldier occur in a set progression, and the next enemy set will appear as soon as the previously set is destroyed or disappears. When you complete a stage, you will continue along the current enemy progression that you last encountered. However, if you die, no matter where along the stage you start, you will begin with the first enemy of the table you were most recently along. While most enemies come out one at a time, groups of enemies will attack on occasion. Enemy groups are indicated by parenthesis.
