I noticed that Wikibooks:NetHack is on the import list. Once it appears here, I plan to start editing the guide here instead of the one at Wikibooks.

Contrary to most Wikibooks game guides, the NetHack guide has its screenshots on Wikimedia Commons instead of Wikibooks. Since the MWDumper apparently is not doing images, I might point something like Commons:User:File Upload Bot (Kernigh) at Strategy Wiki. --Kernigh 18:00, 26 April 2006 (PDT)

NetHack is now done. I've left the pages alone for now until you've got the images and all that. Also you might like to double-check that I haven't forgotten a template or something. GarrettTalk 20:39, 26 April 2006 (PDT)

Might I suggest wikibooks:Hero's quest and wikibooks:Monkey Madness Quest for bringing over here? Only 1/2 editors and the pages here seem somewhat lacking. -- Prod 14:49, 4 September 2006 (CDT)

Japanese wiki[edit]

I cannot figure out what license this wiki uses, since I can't read it, but it has some useful content. Can anybody tell what license it uses?

http://www29.atwiki.jp/ds_gamecenter_cx/

--SkiDragon 00:51, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

It's copyrighted. This page has their license verbage in English. That being said, you're free to use it as a resource, and since it would have to be completely rewritten for an English wiki, you'd have ample opportunity to make the presentation of the information uniquely your own. — najzereT 01:11, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

How to go about importing content[edit]

Can someone who knows more about these things than I do please add some text to say how to go about importing content? For example, mentioning what licences the existing content can be under, what the etiquette is about contacting the people who authored the content, and what to do about attribution. I ask because in the Wikia section, it is mentioned that discussions petered out between DrBob and http://supcom.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page, but as the content there is CC-BY-SA can't we just import it anyway without having to ask? Or were the discussions more to do with trying to persuade the people over there to come over here to edit the content? --Pelago 18:00, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

I think the wikia section may have been to discuss partnerships, as you're right, we can use their info with attribution if they're on a CC-BY-SA license (some aren't though). As far as contacting authors, it's not necessary if their license is compatible with ours. You only need to contact an author to get his permission, which isn't necessary if it's already in the document. I'll try to add a little about this to the page. — najzereT 18:05, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Alternatively, maybe the "how to" information on content importing should be in StrategyWiki:Guide, and just linked to from here. Apologies if it's already in the guide - I skimmed the subpage titles there and couldn't see it. Cheers. --Pelago 18:21, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
It's more of a specialty process than something belonging in the user guide. If anything, we'd probably want to link here from StrategyWiki:Guide/Researching more information. — najzereT 19:00, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

We wouldn't want other sites to just copy all our content for their own site, even if it is legally acceptable, so we don't do it to them without their permission. -- Prod (Talk) 19:41, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the answers. You're right that instructions on content import probably shouldn't clog up main guide, and could just be on this page. Incidentally, I notice very few pages link to this page. Could Content Import be made a Project, maybe, to make it more discoverable? --Pelago 20:51, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Project inactive?[edit]

I wonder what happened to this project, it seems like a promising way to gather non-copyrighted content and implementing it to the wiki, considering the openness aspect of having the highest quality of content in a single guide as possible instead of multiple guides for the same game from multiple authors. I do not know what happened since 2010 (the last time the page was edited) upon checking the completion section (or perhaps the lists weren't updated recently with quite a few guides had some content in). Due to finding this project, I just started to collect several links of guides that can be used without worry of copyright (and even before checking this, and joining the wiki, I collected a ton of sources regardless of copyright status, which I have to talk to Procyon (talk · contribs) on off-the-ball questions, which could be more than a couple.) I'll be adding new entries soon. --RAP (talk) 03:02, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Like a lot of things on the site, some projects go in and out of active status based on how enthusiastic people are to support them. While we have tried several attempts at rallying community support for particular activities, people tend to go back to their individual ways, focusing on what they feel is more interesting to them. RAP (talk · contribs), if you are interested in taking up the mantle for this project, you are more than welcome to. I still believe in the merits of this project even though I tend to focus on my own guide development. If you have any questions, feel free to raise them here, so shoot me a post on my talk page. Procyon 03:30, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
Our projects are infinitely long. The content on the page indicates completed work, not work to be done. Feel free to contribute more. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 00:41, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

My work on adding new entries[edit]

I partially dumped in a list of link content in the project; while some of the guides are found randomly by my own, most of the guides came from users that had their guides posted in both Project pages (not completed and completed), which yield even more content for me to list down and submitted.

Unfortunately, part of the whole list is gone, I thought I saved it, but I can't seem to remember; using Ctrl+F all over my computer files, that's a no. Somewhat upset this happened...fortunately, most of it is actually recoverable since the FAQs I found are based on the existing linked FAQs I checked in this project, but I'm not going to bother gathering them again for a while after being upset. To prevent further loss of work, I decided to dump all of my work here in raw form (preferably viewable during editing), which should be added back into the entries list:

Going past that, I need someone assist me to verify if I have correctly screened all the links with the correct license, as I emulated the procedure based on how the project has operated since it was last touched; with the addition of users who created the files.

Additionally, I also need assistance on a separate list to see if these links are viable to use due to difficulty figuring out whether the guide is freely usable. However, there are a few leftover entries that I didn't put into this seperate list from the raw data above.

.

I'll resume working on the entries list later on, I got school to focus on. --RAP (talk) 02:59, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

GNU LIcense[edit]

Since we're under a CC-BY-SA license now, I'm not sure we can import GNU based guides anymore. We may have to delist/archive them. -- Prod (talk) 05:03, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Prod (talk · contribs): Wait, the wiki used to have a different license than CC BY-SA (3.0)? Can you clarify? The reason I mentioned that I need someone to check and verify the guides I'm adding is that I tried my best to emulate what the project has done; and never seen a GNU licensed guide in the project beforehand. --RAP (talk) 06:46, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
We used to be GFDL, but we converted to CC-BY-SA around the same time wikipedia did. -- Prod (talk) 14:31, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
