Blanka is one of the original eight characters featured in the first version of Street Fighter II. He has green skin and long orange hair, resembling a monster more than a human.

In Street Fighter Alpha 3, his character design was changed to make him look less ferocious-looking. His in-game story, just like the in-game stories of the other characters in the series, serves as a precursor to the events of Street Fighter II. The game tells a tale of how Blanka ate a melon on a poacher's truck and traveled to civilization for the first time. Playing the game as Blanka, the player eventually faces Dan Hibiki as one of Blanka's mid-bosses. It is then revealed through in-game dialogue that the two know each other and that Blanka had once saved Dan's life. Blanka faces Zangief as his second mid-boss and unwittingly prevents Zangief from helping to destroy the Shadaloo criminal organization. He then faces Shadaloo member Balrog before facing M. Bison. After Bison is defeated, Blanka, Dan and Sakura work together and destroy Bison's psycho drive weapon.

Techniques[edit]

Name Description
Electric Thunder Due to unknown reasons (but assumed to be tied to an accident in the jungle, possibly after being "gifted" by electrical eels from the Amazon river), Blanka has a very unique ability to conduct an amount of 10,000 volts of electrical tension through his skin. He must remain motionless while he concentrates on its release, but opponents who touch him at that time receive a harmful shock. When using this technique, there is a small spot very close to the ground where Blanka is vulnerable to attack.
Rolling Attack Blanka has the ability to tuck his body into a ball, and propel himself through the air through the use of his strong leg muscles. He hurtles forward through the air in a tucked spin, hitting opponents with the force of a 10-ton wrecking ball.
Backstep Rolling Blanka can build up power by hopping back a step before hurling himself into the air. However, Blanka has less control over his momentum with this attack, and it results in an arc. It can take opponents by surprise, but it is not as accurate an attack.
Vertical Rolling Blanka can launch himself upward through the air in addition to forward. Blanka travels very high, but not very far with this alternate spin. Blanka can use this attack against jumping opponents.
Surprise Forward/Back Blanka can summon a huge burst of agility to travel inhumanly fast in either a forward or backward direction. He can use this ability at will to either escape from an impending attack, or to quickly close the distance between him and an opponent, and attack before the opponent has a chance to react. While Blanka can use this move to pass through his opponent, it can't be used to pass through attacks.
Rock Crush Blanka has developed a very calloused forehead over long years of smashing coconuts with his bare head while surviving in the jungle, and can do quite a bit of damage to opponents with a headbutt. His agility typically allows him to strike an opponent twice with this headbutt (the first blow hits high while the second blow hits low).
Amazon River Run Blanka can literally flatten his body very low to the ground and slide forward to quickly attack his opponent in the base of ankles. This attack easily escapes any attack that isn't directed towards the ground, and allows Blanka to slide underneath all projectiles except Sagat's Ground Tiger Shot.
Ground Shave Rolling Blanka builds up a substantial amount of kinetic energy before rolling forward across the ground at his opponent. After initiating the move, Blanka is able to spin in place for a small number of seconds in order to choose the right moment for his attack. If he waits too long (or if an opponent touches him) he will be forced to rush along the ground. Opponents who are struck by the attack will be hit multiple times before being knocked down.
Tropical Hazard Blanka hops to the edge of the screen an drops fruit on his opponents. Mashing the attack buttons lets him drop more fruit.
