The Fencing event involves swordplay - to score a hit, you must hit your opponent.

When the fire button is not held, joystick movements adjust the position of the sword.

While holding the fire button, you can advance or retreat by pushing the joystick left or right. A thrust is performed by a forward joystick movement, while a backward movement will thrust and advance.

By moving your sword from the extreme left to extreme right (or vice versa), you may be able to deflect your opponent's sword. When you deflect a sword, the opponent cannot attack for a short time, and may only retreat. To score, make a thrust.

If both players hit each other, they cancel each other out. Players will take two or three steps back (provided there is room), before the match continues.

A win is awarded after 5 hits, or to the player with the most points after 3 minutes. On case of a tie, one more minute is provided for sudden death; if it is still a draw, both players are given a loss.
