After loading Summer Games II and watching the introduction screen, you will be presented with a menu.

  1. Compete in all the events will start the full competition. If this is the first session, Summer Games II will ask you to enter the name for one or more contestants, and to select their home flag. Once all contestants have been entered, press return to continue.
  2. Compete in some events will start a competition for some of the selected events. After entering the contestants, you will be presented with a list of events. Lit entries will be played, while darkened entries will be skipped.
  3. Compete in one event will start a competition for one event.
  4. Practice one event will allow unlimited play in a single event. In practice, you are given better flexibility in controlling some parameters in the event (if applicable).
  5. Number of joysticks will allow you to determine whether you are using one or two joysticks. The Rowing, Fencing and Cycling events allow two players to play at once, speeding up gameplay slightly.
  6. Summer Games 1 Events allows you to play the events found in the original series. This option is not available in all versions.
  7. See world records displays the highscores. Default highscores have already been places, and are high enough to prevent casual players from obtaining them.
  8. Opening ceremonies shows the introduction.
  9. Closing ceremonies shows the outro, when the events are completed.
