High jump requires the athlete to run forward a short distance, then jump over a bar.

The following controls are used:

  • Arcade-Stick-Right.png - tap to accelerate.
  • Arcade-Stick-Right.png(hold) + Arcade-Button-Orange.png - accelerate. Used
  • Arcade-Stick-Up.png Approach the bar for a sharper jump angle
  • Arcade-Stick-Down.png Move away from the bar for a broader jump angle
  • Arcade-Button-Orange.png At the bar, jump.
  • Arcade-Stick-Up.png During jump, raise your legs to avoid knocking down the bar.

In the main event, the bar starts at 1.50m. It increases to 1.75m, 1.90m, 2.00m, and increases by 0.05m until the maximum. Athletes are allowed to continue jumping until they make three failed attempts; they may choose to pass on their second or third attempt in order to jump a higher distance. Contestants aiming for the world record of 2.50m by continuously passing will be forced to jump 2.45m first.

Making the high jump - push up to get over the bar

To start, press the stick to the right to start running. Keep tapping it until you reach the jump mat, optionally pushing up (or down) to adjust your jump angle. When you reach the mat, press the button to jump. When jumping towards the bar, push the stick up to avoid hitting the bar; if done too early or too late, you will miss the jump.

If you notice that you are moving too slow for the jump, you can run past the bar for no penalty. However, you will still need to eventually attempt the jump. While you will be shown that you moved too slowly by jumping under or into the bar, clearing the bar will only show you move a few pixels above it.

During practice, the bar can be set to any value between 1.20m and 2.50m, and you won't be eliminated for missing a jump.
