Translation/Strategy[edit]

What’s an Antilus Squad? Well, Masaki wonders the same thing. But as Ryuune says, it’s the official name for their new unit. Antilus was, as Kuro points out, the goddess who created Langran – according to their creation myth. This fails to impress Masaki, who wonders why exactly all this is strictly necessary. After all, what’s wrong with just calling them the Masoukishin Squad?

Well, they’ve got new recruits on the way, and a goddamn airship, for a start. The new La Gias Alliance – formed from 28 of the 31 countries in La Gias – including the major powers of Langran, Shutedonias, Vagonia and… Arial, the forgotten sibling of La Gias’ geography, has come together in a sort of bizarre United Nations scheme to keep La Gias in a state of relative peace.

So, the new squad will be under the jurisdiction of the Alliance. Not that the squad’ll be directly taking orders, but they are nominally there to act in their interests. Though Kuro is keen to point out that Langran gave the Masoukishin pilots the freedom to act as they saw fit, even if that meant contravening the will of the Langran monarchy, but the other members are technically answering to the Alliance, though they have the right to act autonomously in a crisis situation. And in a two birds one stone situation, that means putting a Masoukishin pilot in command.

Yeah, this can only end well.

But enough of that, our first new recruit is almost her-oh. Wait, no, is here! Enter Tsrain xan Lecanivan, our latest member of the Antilus Squad! And he’s super nervous and eager to please, but Masaki’s quick to tell him to loosen up. After a bizarre set of introductions, Tsrain is welcomed into the fold. But first, there are two things to sort out. One, Ryuune wants to get him into a Masouki and see exactly what he’s capable of. And two, Masaki wants him to stop being so formal and stilted, jeez!

So, we drag the new kid off to the hangar, where Senia’s busy keeping all the Masouki in tip-top shape. Senia’s response to Tsrain being overly formal is that, while he’s weird, that seems to be a mandatory requirement for joining their merry little band. Captain Masaki is not amused, but Senia points out that most of the pilots being sent to join the Antilus Squad are a little… odd in one way or another. Whether that’s because of their skills, or their skills are because of their oddities, is another matter.

In any case, having heard Tsrain’s credentials (200 hours of simulator training, 50 hours in a Blowell), Senia pegs him as most suited to a Fire-type Masouki, and suggests they try him out in Leogaler. This is a new one to Masaki, but Senia points out that while he’s been swanning off killing evil gods, Wendy’s been busy building some new Masouki. But wait, says Masaki, weren’t there only 16 Masouki, because of the 16 spirits they were tied to?

Yup, but they can’t let limits like that stop us making cool new robots, so they axed a few old ones. Say bye-bye to the Jayfer, if you enjoyed it in Masoukishin 1. You know, the Jayfer. That memorable unit. Super memorable. Everyone remembers the Jayfer. No?

Oh.

Anyway, she gets him set up with Leogaler. It has voice recognition security that she needs to calibrate – now that they’re an official organization, they need a certain level of security. That the Masoukishin and Valsione apparently always had? Thanks, retcons. Anyway, Tsrain gets pumped up for his training session, until he’s told it’ll be live. As in, “we want you to go take down some wild Demon Golems.” Suddenly he’s not having so much fun!

Masaki, Ryuune and Senia of course will accompany him, though Psybuster’s still in maintenance. As such, this will be a chance for Masaki to dig out his old steed, the ever-faithful Jaohm!

Out in the wilds of Langran, the team encounters the Demon Golem. Wait, Golem? There were meant to be five, but it looks like there’s only one here. Masaki and Ryuune decide to stay on guard, leaving Tsrain to take down the Golem, with Senia on hand to heal him up. He’s still not sure about this whole live training exercise thing, but hey, he’s got a giant robot and it’s just a golem, so run up and punch it in the face.

The golem should go down in 2 hits, but you might want to save the second hit for your turn – gives you a bit more room to manuever when the inevitable reinforcements show up. Not that Tsrain is particularly confident he can survive two encounters, but what does he know, stupid kid.

Anyway, once the golem goes down, the other four appear, and it’s full-on beatdown time. Have Tsrain heal up with his healing seishin, and spread out to take down those Golems. Tsrain will probably take a few knocks, but he can heal himself in addition to having Senia on hand to patch him up. Honestly, you can pretty much brute force this one, but a bit of sensible seishin usage will make life easy for you.

Once the golems are all dealt with, the team heads back. Masaki’s kinda upset these things are still running around, but with how many were around back during the last war, and the Volkruss cult still on the loose, it’s hardly surprising. Though Senia suspects these were ones summoned for labor purposes and then left to run wild. But at the very least, clearing up Demon Golems earns them a bit of money – running odd jobs as always, some things never change.

And they can’t afford to – once the squad falls under the Alliance, rather than being part of Langran’s military like before, there goes most of their direct funding. Senia seems rather surprised both that Tsrain had heard that was going to happen, and that he still joined up despite it. But as he points out – despite all the chaos that happened in their wake, he considers the Masoukishin pilots as a beacon to aspire to – those who will stop at nothing to do the right thing, even if it means raising their blades against their own country.

But his monologue is cut short as Senia points out they really need to get back. She has paperwork to fill in if your team is going to get the money they deserve for that cleanup job.

>Obtained 10,000 Credits

Damn, that was quick.
