Super World Court start screen.png

Once you've inserted a coin into the cabinet of Namco's Japan-only 1992 tennis arcade game Super World Court, the text "PUSH START BUTTON" will appear on the screen; regardless of which of the four you press, the game will proceed to the start screen shown above, which displays the Kanji text of Sanka uketsuke-chū (参加受付中) at the top of it, with a 14-second timer and the text "1P", "2P", "3P", and "4P" below it. The text "OK" will be displayed below the player whose Start Button you pressed, and the text "DEPOSIT COIN(S)" will be displayed below the other three players whose Start Buttons you didn't press - and any other people who wish to join the game will have fourteen seconds to insert up to three more coins (at which point the text will change to "PUSH START BUTTON", and "OK" as the Start Buttons are pressed). The Kanji/Hiragana text Senshū wo erande kudasai (選手を選んで下さい) will then appear at the top of the screen as it goes onto the player selection screen, and the first player will have fourteen seconds to decide which of the sixteen new players he wishes to take control of by pushing his joystick up, down, left and right, and pressing the Serve Button to confirm his choice; the other players will then each have fourteen seconds to decide which of those remaining players they wish to take control of (but, if there are less than four players, the first player will have up to forty-two seconds to decide which of the remaining players he wishes that CPU to take control of). The three-script text Kōto wo erande kudasai (コートを選んで下さい) will then appear at the top of the screen as it goes onto the court selection screen, and you will then have fourteen more seconds to decide which of the four courts (three of which were featured in the original World Court, and one of which is brand-new) you wish your match to take place on by again pushing the joystick up, down, left, and right, then pressing the Serve Button to confirm your choice:

The three-script text Setto-sū wo erande kudasai (セット数を選んで下さい) will then appear at the top of the screen, and you will have fourteen seconds to decide whether your match should be one or three sets long by pushing the joystick up and down, and pressing the Serve Button to confirm your choice; once you've done so, the screen will cut to a shot of all four of your chosen players taking their positions on your chosen court and your match will begin.

The text 1 SET, 1 GAME will then appear on screen, as the number of games won by both players or teams (which, of course, starts out at 0-0) appears below it; as with the original, Player 1 always serves first and bounces the ball if you hold the joystick down. You must press either Serve Button to make your chosen player throw that ball into the air, then do it again to make them hit it over the net with their racket - and if there are only 2 players, Players 3 or 4 must press either of their Serve Buttons to make their chosen players hit that ball over the net with their rackets. As soon as one of the players misses the ball, or it lands in either of the vertical sections on either side of the court, in which case the text "OUT!" will appear on the screen, the other team will be awarded a point and a portrait of the player who won the point will fly into view from the left or right side of the screen with that text "NICE SHOT" below it; the current score (now 15-00) will then be displayed on the screen.

If either player hits the ball into the net on their first serve the text "FAULT" will appear on the screen (and occasionally, one of the two ball boys, or Pac-Men if on the Namco court who are standing on either side of the net, will run onto the court and pick it up); if that same player should hit the ball into the net on their second serve, the text "DOUBLE FAULT" will appear on the screen and the other team will again be awarded a point. Also, if the ball should land on the net after any player has hit it on their first serve the text "LET" will appear on the screen - and after one of the players has been awarded the point that makes the score 40-all, the text "DEUCE" will appear upon the screen. As soon as one of the players misses the ball, the other team will have the advantage; but if that same player goes on to miss the ball, the score will revert to 40-all. Once either of the teams wins a game, the text of "Change Court" will appear on the screen (with all four players' points and first serve percentages displayed above it and their service aces, double faults and net points displayed below it) - and it is also worth noting that it is possible for the ball to hit the players, ball boys and Pac-Men, who will say "UUU!" and be temporarily stunned. It's also possible for one player to hit another player, a ball boy or a Pac-Man for themselves just for fun; if they do so, they will say "NO!" as they are temporarily stunned (and in the case of those two who are standing on either side of that net, they will fly through the air off the court). Both teams will then change which side of the court they are on; the third, second, and fourth players will also get the chance to serve first, during every second, third and fourth game. After either of the teams has won six sets, your game will immediately end if you had decided that your match should be one set long - but if you had decided that it should be three sets long the screen will cut to a shot of your chosen court's scoreboard (again, with all four players' points and first serve percentages displayed up at the top of it and their service aces, double faults and net points displayed at the bottom of it):

You may also have noticed that there's a timer up in the top-right corner of the screen; it will start out at between 120 (2:00) and 360 (6:00) seconds, depending on what the arcade's operator has set the "Vs Com/Man Play Time" options to. Once it has run out it will display the text of "TIME UP" and you will have fourteen seconds to insert another coin and continue - and the timer will be reduced to half its original value. Once either of the teams has won two sets in a three-set match, the screen will cut to a shot of two portraits of the winning players with the text of "WINNER" below them, as the text of "CONGRATULATIONS" appears above them; that number of games won by both teams will also be displayed at the bottom of the screen, along with the two teams themselves (that winning one will be cheering, and that losing one will be crying). The text of "Game Over" will then appear on the screen - and the game will go back into attract mode (like its precursor, it does not have a high-score table).
