If you venture from the second town by heading one screen to the east, and one screen north, you can see the next town across the river quite clearly. Unfortunately, it's not nearly so easy to reach. Instead, you'll have to travel due north from the second town until you reach a mountain range along a coast line. Then follow this land as it heads east. Hug the southern coastline until it leads you to a bridge that you must cross.

After crossing the bridge, you'll arrive at an unusual screen that is occupied by a single tree. You can actually walk up to this tree to talk to it. It will inform you that you can't enter the Eastern Castle without the Moon Mask. That will be the next item to acquire after you visit the third town, which happens to be just one more screen to the west from the tree.

This town is pretty much identical to the previous town with two exceptions: The tea now costs 16 gold per drink, and there's a new weapon for sale, the ice sword, which is a much better upgrade from the long spear, than the long spear was from the light axe. Before you embark on the quest for the Moon Mask, you should make sure you have the steel shield and at least the light axe equipped.

(6) South tower[edit]

A: 2580 Gold, B: Key

To reach this tower, just travel due south from the third town. When you enter, you arrive in the top room of the first floor. From here, you can follow the side paths or go down the middle. Take the middle path first, and you will be rewarded with a treasure chest containing 2580 gold. Then return to the screen above.

Of the two side paths, both take you all the way around the outer edge of the tower to reach the stairs to the second floor. However, one path will net you a key, while the other path contains a door and will cost you a key. To gain a key and not lose one, take the left path.

Follow the left path around, stopping to collect the key from the closed chest along the way. When you reach the bottom screen, continue to follow the path up until it allows you to access the middle path down to the staircase below.

C: 3rd Eye, D: Daffodil

Neither of the treasures on this floor are amazing, so if you're finding it hard to maintain your health, you may wish to skip them and head straight for the stairs. If you do wish to hunt for the treasures, first follow the lowest path to the left in order to find a 3rd Eye in the dead-end section of the corner room. Then return to the previous room and take the middle path to the left. Don't bother with the upper path, as it leads you to an extra door that can be avoided.

Continue following that middle path up to the room above. Stay to the left to collect a Daffodil from the chest in the corner. The Daffodil will temporarily boost your defense when you activate it. Then duck into the corridor on the right and follow it down and around to the next staircase, unlocking a door in the process.

E: Scythe, F: Moon Mask

Of the two treasure chests on this floor, one will kill you and the other is required to beat the game. The chest in the left room where you arrive contains the life stealing Scythe, so avoid it. Instead, focus on collecting the chest in the right room, which contains the Moon Mask, an item that is needed to gain access to the East castle, your next destination. Once you have it, Quick Save your game, heal up and climb the stairs to the boss' lair above.

South Tower boss

No surprises here; other than having more health, this fight will be identical to the previous two boss fights you encountered earlier. Stand to the right of the boss, and push it into the upper left corner of the room in order to deal more damage to it faster than the orbs can hurt you.

(7) East castle[edit]

A: Key, B: Puppet, C: Key, D: Key, E: Thorn, ♥: Heart, F: Harp, G: 5721 Gold

To reach the East castle, travel east from the third town, cross the bridge and go up one screen, and then continue east one more screen. You must possess the Moon Mask or you cannot enter the castle. This is a large dungeon, but it contains much straighter corridors to explore, so you should find it less confusing to navigate than some dungeons. There are two special treasures here, along with a good number of keys. One of the special treasures is the next heart that will expand your health meter. The other special treasure is an item that will allow you to regenerate lost health, albeit slowly, by standing still.

From the entrance, walk around the wall and come down one room. Open the chest in the chamber to find a key. Then continue to the room on the right, and follow the path up. Open the chest in that room to find a Puppet. Walk to the right side of the room, and explore the path below first to find another key. Then return to the previous room and continue walking up and you'll find a chest containing a third key.

Before you open the door, take the lower path on the left, and follow the long corridor across several screens until you can head down. In the room in the lower left portion of the castle, ignore the treasure chest in the corner, as it contains a Thorn, and you'll have to use a Poppy to cure it. Instead, unlock the door leading to the small chamber above, and open the chest to find the Heart. Your health will now increase to 96, and be completely replenished.

Return to the room with the locked door, and unlock it. Follow the upper corridor to the left. You will find another locked door, but visit the room above first. In the chest at the top of the room lies a very useful item, the Harp. This is the item which will regenerate any lost health as long as you are standing still (note that if any text is lingering on the bottom of the screen, you must clear it with B button before your health will refill.) Collect the Harp and then return to the room below.

Unlock the door, and follow the path to the left. Walk around the wall to reach the chest on the other side. Inside, you will find a large sum of gold, 5721, which should instantly help with any expensive weapons you've been waiting to purchase. Once you have this, return to the entrance and head back to the third town for supplies.

(8) Mid tower[edit]

A: 3rd Eye, B: Key

The Mid tower is two screens west and two screens north of the East castle. It doesn't have a boss fight or even a heart, but it does have a particularly good shield that you can obtain for free. And since most good shields are expensive, the prospect of a free shield should be incentive enough.

When you enter the first floor, take the lower path on the right, as the other two paths lead to a dead-end or a locked door that you can avoid. In the upper right room, you'll see a chest locked behind a door, but it contains a 3rd Eye which is not worth losing a key over. Skip it and travel down and around until you find yourself on the other side of a locked door. From here, you must travel down. First head left and up the left side of the first floor to find a key, then return to the previous room, and follow the path along the bottom to the stairs that lead to the second floor.

C: Bread, D: Key, E: Thorn, F: Key

You could make a B-line for the stairs to the next floor, but you'd be passing up the opportunity to collect two more keys. The chest in the room that you arrive in contains a loaf of bread, but it's locked behind a door, so you will have to decide how badly you need the bread. Travel up to the room above to find the first chest with a key. Follow the outer edge to the right, but don't collect the contents of the closed chest here, as it contains a Thorn. Keep going down to the room below, where you'll find a chest with the second key. Then unlock the door below you to access the stairs to the third and final floor.

G: Golem, H: Ceramic Shield

On this last floor, you can find a Golem in the chest of the room that you arrive in. Using a Golem will freeze every enemy on the screen in place. Take either the lower or upper path to the room on the left, and unlock the door on the far side to access the chest within. This is the chest which contains the Ceramic Shield. Once you collect it, it will instantly replace your current shield. Do not purchase the Steel or Silver shields, as you will lose the Ceramic shield forever.

(9) North tower[edit]

A: Key, B: Key

You must visit the north tower before you can visit the Mirror cave in the northeast corner of the world. You need Stardust to access the Mirror cave, and you will find it near the top of this tower. It also happens to contain the fourth boss of the game. To reach it, start at the East castle, and hug the east coast as it takes you north until you reach another screen that's only occupied by a tree. The tree will mention Stardust to you. From here, follow the north coast to the west, and you will reach the tower.

There are a large number of locked doors in this tower, and it if you have the money to spare, it may be worth your while to shop for some keys from the third town before you approach this tower. Do not purchase more than 7 keys, since there are two to be found on the first floor of the tower. The first one is all the way to the right of the entrance. The second one is in the upper left corner. It's possible to reach both of them without using keys. Then access the stairs to the second floor in the upper right corner.

C: 3rd Eye, D: 5721 Gold

From the entrance, you have a choice. You can take the upper path to the left to head directly to the stairs. Or you can take the lower path to the left to examine two treasure chests. If you take the lower path to the chests, you can shortcut your way back to the stairs by unlocking a door. The chest near the bottom of the floor contains a 3rd Eye. However, the chest at the dead-end in the upper left corner contains 5721 gold. Keep saving up your money, as you will soon be needing large amounts of it. Whether you backtrack all the way to the 1st floor stairs and work your way to the 3rd floor stairs, or simply unlock the door, make your way up to the next floor.

E: Scythe, F: Stardust

As is typical for floors like this, there is a treasure you must absolutely collect, and a treasure you must absolutely avoid. The chest in the room that you arrive contains the life-stealing Scythe, so avoid it at all costs. Continuing on to the next room on the right, however, you will find another chest that you should investigate. In it, you will find the Stardust, which you need to access the Mirror cave. Collect it, then Quick Save your game, heal up and approach the stairs to the boss' lair below.

North Tower boss

Though stronger with more health, this boss fight should proceed exactly like the previous three fights did. Push the boss into the upper left corner from the right side to defeat him. Once defeated, you will regain all of your health and obtain Dr. Doppler's fourth treasure. Only four more to go. Exit the tower, and travel to the east to reach the Mirror Cave.

(10) Mirror cave[edit]

A: Key, P: Poppy, C: Cecile's Sword

The Mirror cave can be found by traveling to the west from the screen with the lone tree along the north coast. As soon as you enter, you'll need to unlock a door to get further inside, so make sure you have at least one key before you enter.

After unlocking the door, you'll have to snake along a path until it deposits you one room below the entrance. A small chamber on the right has a chest that contains a key. Collect it, and then follow the path below this chamber as it leads to the right, where you'll find a chest with a Poppy in it. Then double back to the left to take the middle exit and you'll find yourself in a dead-end with a chest. This chest contains a new weapon which is stronger than any weapon to could purchase up to this point: Cecile's Sword.

Grab the new sword, and then make your way back to the small chamber with the chest that contained a key. From here, walk to the path on the outside, and follow it down and to the right until you wind up at another dead-end. Only, it's not a dead-end. At the end of the path is a mirror. This is no ordinary mirror. You can step into this mirror. Do so, and you will be transported to the Demon World, where the second half of your quest lies.
