Regional Differences[edit]

This is a copy of the discussion on regional differences for Advance Wars: Days of Ruin and standardization the guide to US version. The corresponding sources can be found on : User talk:Firenova, User talk:Notmyhandle & User talk:Prod.

It looks like there's already a page where you've added these differences, however, since we don't have a policy on this, I suggest you standardize the guide one way or the other, and simply reference the regional differences page often.

If MrSue continues to be intolerant, please report him to one of us. Thanks for the contribs! --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:34, 9 February 2008 (CST)

Hmm, not a bad idea - never thought of that. Thanks.
But I have the EU version and therefore if the guide was to be standardize to the US version I won't feel comfortable editing or adding to it anymore. The basic storyline, gameplay and missions are the same in all versions but everything else may be different which I don't know.
And it would be pritty weird to standardize it to the EU version when it's currently has the US name of 'Advance Wars: Days of Ruin' when in the EU is called 'Advance Wars: Dark Conflict'.--Firenova(Talk) 05:58, 10 February 2008 (CST)
I understand, I don't know why I suggested the standardization - however please reference the regional differences a lot anyways to help new readers understand and to avoid confusion. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:36, 10 February 2008 (CST)

I can understand telling about the regional differences in one place. But having it within the guides as well is just redundant and confusing. If you want, add a regional differences page, but throughout the guide, stick to one or the other (first to the guide decides on the standard). However, 30% of our users come from USA, so I'd suggest using the NA names. -- Prod (Talk) 20:54, 21 February 2008 (CST)

True. I will start standardize the guide to UN version (with the exception of the unit page and CO page as they'll be fine with all the versions). After I've standardized the guide and finished the 'Getting Started' page and story mode characters and possibly add something to the tips section: I will most likely stop helping with Advance Wars Days Of Ruin guide as I have the EU version.
Since I have the EU version, I won't feel comfortable editing or adding to it anymore. The basic storyline, gameplay and missions are the same in all versions but everything else may be different - which I don't know of course in the US version.--Firenova(Talk) 05:04, 22 February 2008 (CST)
I was only referring to naming. If there are differences in story/ordering, we should cover both/all versions of the game (we have the {{sidebar}} for additional info). However, I doubt the storyline would be different. Releasing a major game like that and having different stories just doesn't make much sense. Just go ahead and write it the way your game goes. If someone else find something different, they can add in a note about it. -- Prod (Talk) 10:32, 22 February 2008 (CST)
I definitely agree with Prod here. Go ahead and write it for the version you have, as you've obviously gotten a decent amount of work into the guide. If I have time later I can play through the guide as you've written it and add sidebars for whatever differences there may be. It may turn out (as is likely) that the title is the biggest difference between the US and EU versions.--~Vizeroth (contribs)~-- 23:21, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
