Quality of monster notes[edit]

It looks like retarded monkeys (aka 13 year olds with bad typing skills and grammar) have been typing most of these. (Look at "Wild Boar")

It's a starting point, they're quite new. Maybe they aren't great, but rather than insulting someone who put the effort into it, you could help instead. -- Prod-You 03:21, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

I just wanted to add another question relating to the quality of the notes. What guidelines are there for monster info? Should it be restricted to battle tactics and well-known (rare) drops, or should other information be allowed in as well? -- EMP Demon 02:25, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Exactly as you said, only battle tactics and rare/notable drops. Perhaps items that are required for quests as well. Though there may be a lot of extra info for that so maybe another column could be used for that (with links to the relevant quest). If I can, I'll go through all the notes and try to clean them up a bit. -- Prod-You 15:25, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the drop lists for GlobalMS and MapleSEA are now different. This brings up a question: Do we leave item-related notes in, take them out, or do we change them to say "In MapleSEA, blah blah blah" as necessary? -EMP Demon 07:21, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Location Question[edit]

Where can these Chief Wood Board/ Chief Stone Wall monsters be found? -- Kevles
I'm not sure, but I think those monsters are KMS (Korean Maple Story) only. --EMP Demon 02:07, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
It is by Perion but in KoreaMS only for now. -- DarkNShadow 03:38, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Where the heck did those Evil mushmom and taurotorn monsters go?-- Skrub 05:25, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Evil Mushmom and Taurotorn are 100% fake. -- 66.215.71.146 02:30, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
I thought as much. Taurotorn looks like someone discolered a Taurospear and photoshopped the Crimson Balrog skull. Evil Mushmom i'm not sure.-- Skrub 08:00, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Memo: JMS Monster Experience[edit]

All monster experience data taken from JMS websites take into account the automatic 125% EXP boost that their servers receive. I corrected some of the incorrect experience counts I came across while editing, but most likely missed a couple.

I added a JMS EXP section in the template so we can have JMS EXP now. -- DarkNShadow 21:21, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Fake Monsters[edit]

Prod, please don't remove my Fake Monsters section. You can fix it, but DO NOT REMOVE IT PLEASE!!!!!!!!! --Skrub 09:59, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

If they are fake, why include them? -- Prod-You 15:04, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
If fake monster section goes out of hand it should be deleted. -- DarkNShadow 16:42, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, whatever. But if it does get out of hand (Ex: 50 fakes) then delete it.--Skrub 07:10, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
As amusing as seeing all these "fake" monsters, I really don't see the point. Except for a marginal amount of humour, they add nothing to the page. We're trying to be informational, not uncyclopedic -- Prod-You 21:54, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah I see your point. Well maybe we should ask DarkNShadow. (P.S. Could someone supply me with a pic of the holy balrog?)--Skrub 07:10, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok, i may put a fake monsters page on my website. Its unfinished and i cant update it.--Skrub 7:21, 24 August (UTC)
Maybe not on unencyclopedia. Too chaotic.--Skrub 07:22, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Heh, yea, and it's only actually funny to people who play the game. Uncyclopedia is just supposed to be funny in general. -- Prod-You 02:21, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok, if someone's gonna get a pic for holy balrog, it will be Shifter. (Aka fake monster dude with photoshop. ;) )

--Skrub 07:44, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Newest Monsters[edit]

An anonymous edit, tipped me off about the New Monsters section. We haven't really specified its "point". Are we going to put new monsters to the game in general (are there different monsters added to jms and kms at the same time?) or each new version? Also, just to note, try to include the date or something so we know how long its been up. -- Prod-You 17:47, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh yea I forgot to say I added dates to the section for each versions release. -- DarkNShadow 03:35, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

We need to change "'Dile" to "Dyle" and "Deu" to "Deo". -- Hayrik

Deleted Info[edit]

Ok, is this some sort of sick joke? Wizet is still running MapleStory, 69.110.39.119, and I added back the page, being a die hard fan!!!! (If ya didn't know some guy deleted the page. --Skrub 07:19, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Yea, he did that earlier. Just another vandal, ignore him :P -- Prod-You 00:34, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I bet he was a Runescape player. (Hey, I got nothing on Runescape, exept most of the players hate Maplestory.)

--Skrub 06:50, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Spliting Pages Among Monster Level?[edit]

The Monster section is getting very long should it split monsters between level range "MapleStory/Monsters/Level 1-10", "MapleStory/Monsters/Level 11-20" and so on.... or (same as above) but with this page as the master list and have list of monster name or just leave it alone? We can do this after the move if we are moving. -- DarkNShadow 06:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Example for the master list:

=List of monsters=
== Newest Monsters ==
(Keep it the same but link the page where mosnter is)
==All Monsters==
=== Level 1-10 ===
 {{main|MapleStory/Monsters/Level 1-10|Level 1-10}
*[[MapleStory/Monsters/Level 1-10#Snail|Snail]
*[[MapleStory/Monsters/Level 1-10#Tutorial Jr. Sentinel|Tutorial Jr. Sentinel]
*[[MapleStory/Monsters/Level 1-10#Turkey|Turkey]
---
== Bosses ==
(Keep it the same but link the page where mosnter is)
Yes, we definately need to break up the page :P. We are going to be moving very very soon.... I've talked to the StrategyWiki people and all the images are getting transwikid right now (or rather as soon as the guy sees the email). Once thats done, I'll try and get the pages moved. All the images have been renamed so that images come out with better names (hopefully) which will be added to the template.
As for splitting the page, I've been trying to figure out how to do it. We have many options, and I'll have to get some more info from the sw people before I can exclude some of them. For now, I would like to make a main monster page which has the general info and perhaps the new monsters (nice and simple); a bosses page (the bosses section moved to its own page); some other page(s) with the monster list (have to decide on that part). Splitting up the main monster section we can do slowly, but I'd rather do the other stuff sooner rather than later (apparently people like our "new monsters" section :D). I haven't thought too much about that part yet, so any suggestions would be useful.
About the main monster list, your suggestion would make a nice simple main listing, but I would suggest that we have a little more info there such as hp and exp, perhaps even elemental weaknesses, and a boss tag. -- Prod-You 17:17, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Etc[edit]

Thanx prod about my page. -- Skrub

No problemo :).

Goby house super defense up[edit]

I was watching a 103 DK use crusher on it. Every hit was all ones, so I believe the rumor is true.

Monster Images[edit]

I have changed the template so it uses the picture stored at "MS Monster <Monster name>.png". Please don't upload non-png files to the location, like Rombot. If the image doesn't exist, but there is already a usable image (or the official english name isn't known), then use the 9'th parameter as the image name. -- Prod 19:37, 20 September 2006 (CDT)

Vandalism[edit]

Would someone get Cedricdon whatshisface to stop editing the monsters!!!! It's really annoying. Skrub 11:37, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I haven't seen him here in quite a while, so I don't know what you are referring to. I think he reached the account creation limit and subsequently got them all banned. If you could show me a specific recent instance, I might be able to clarify things. --Skizzerz Scissors.pngSafety Skizzerz Talk · Contribs · Spel Chek™ · VFG · RTFM 11:41, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
XDivineHoly seems to be acting in a similar manner, though at the moment i've only seen one edit. I'll look more into it.--IsaacGS 13:50, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
XDivineHolyX actually has had 10 (5 on each of two pages, both of which I reverted), but the style was not Cedricong's. First of all, XDivineHolyX is not obsessed with Image:MS Monster Lich.png, and doesn't even seem to know what Special:Upload is (he/she uses external links to images). Also, he seemed to be putting somewhat factual stuff down (I couldn't verify it-which is another reason for the revert), but his/her grammar was akin to a one year old (if not worse). He/She has not actually done any true vandalism as of yet, so I cannot impose a permanent block on him/her (I can do temporary ones due to the fact he/she is unfamiliar with our documentation and should take a break from editing to read it-but I would only due a block like that only for that purpose). I'll keep a closer eye on Recent Changes to see if anything further comes up. --Skizzerz Scissors.pngSafety Skizzerz Talk · Contribs · Spel Chek™ · VFG · RTFM 14:01, 19 June 2007 (CDT)

HKMS update[edit]

with the last HKMS update, El Nath has apparently been added, but on the latest monsters page it only includes a fraction of the monsters from El Nath (no dark yetis, etc.). Is this because of error, or do they only have partial El Nath for now? (I'm not messing with it, as I don't have HKMS to prove the information on that page is correct or not.) Scriptdaemon 10:26, 2 November 2007 (CDT)

They did not get the Dead Mines area, which is everything after the level 50+ part. That means no dark monsters, Zombies, Werewolves, Bains, etc. --IsaacGS 13:09, 2 November 2007 (CDT)

ThaiMS correction[edit]

The ThaiMS version that will have Korean Folk Town is 0.44, and the year should be 2008. --OMG 14:36, 17 January 2008 (CST)

Ok, thank you.--IsaacGS 15:25, 17 January 2008 (CST)

Tauromacis of LMPQ[edit]

I'm not sure if this is already mentioned on this site. As a warrior, I was wondering why I miss the Tauromacis in LMPQ, even though the calculations show that I have a 100% hit ratio. So I compared the Tauromacis in MPQ with the ones in Sleepywood. I never miss the ones in SW. When the monster name feature came out, the Tauromacis of MPQ were labelled as "Tauromacis (JP)". I searched the Sauna site and found out that they are level 73 and have 20 avoidability instead of 15 (which is a big difference to warriors) [1]. This also applies to all monsters in MPQ [2]. They seem to be copied from the Japanese version. I just wanted to mention this info. --OMG 19:58, 25 January 2008 (CST)

Feel free to add that information on your own, but PQ variations of monsters go under the MapleStory/Monsters/Quests section.--IsaacGS 21:31, 25 January 2008 (CST)

Monster Book[edit]

The monster book came out in GMS yesterday. Since I'm about to reach level 31, I won't be getting the King Slime cards. The article says I can buy them during events. Does anyone know where, when, and how much? 75.24.208.198 00:41, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Monster Book infomation[edit]

Since we have the monster book in MapleGlobal and MapleSEA, do you think we should add a monster book section? It will have the infomation from the Monster Book, and the Monster Book provides all the locations and all the drops except Mastery Books.

Note that different versions may have different drops. FlyXwing 06:32, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Monster tables[edit]

How about a MapleStory-specific class for these tables? They're being used as custom <gallery> elements, with the benefit I guess that the tables don't scale the small images upward and make them blurry. A table class could enforce a standard width for all cells, a maximum width for images so smaller ones don't stretch, and horizontal and vertical alignment to keep everything centered. Basically it would look like this version. I know the Monsters page isn't the only one displaying images like this, so it would have uses throughout the guide and make any new tables being created very simple. — najzereT 00:24, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

On that page, it looks awesome. I wonder if we can get the same effect on the single column, vertical table. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:40, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
I think there are even more of those tables, and even less changes probably need to be made. Those tables don't look so bad, except for the images not being vertically aligned and on pages like MapleStory/Monsters/Level 131-199 where a huge image makes the image column wider than some screen resolutions. Those could use the td:first-child pseudo-element (works in IE and FF) and you could probably get away with larger max-widths for the images, like 200–250px. — najzereT 07:57, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Update the Page[edit]

I've noticed a complete lack of updates on new monsters on this page, considering several updates have been added. Here is what needs added (As far as I know):

KMS Hob King PQ
GMS Golden Temple
KMS New Boss "Black Magician's Servant"

I uploaded all the picture of the new monsters from KMS, so those do not need uploaded. --BubbleRevolution 23:41, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

I forgot to add the Hob King monsters to this list, though I did add them to their respective level-range page. (I'll get on that right away~) Did you upload the actual Hob King (boss) anywhere? I didn't see it. Also, do you have any other information about the Servant? I can't find anything about it in Fiel's extractions. -- Imjon (talk) 03:09, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
This is the Hob King picture: File:MS Monster Hob King.png I checked the source for the Servant, it says it may be unreleased. --BubbleRevolution 13:55, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Also, are we ever going to update on Edelstein and the new GMST area? BubbleRevolution 20:59, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm almost done with adding Hob KingPQ to the wiki, and will work on Edelstein after that. -- Imjon (talk) 04:25, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

What level is Black Magician's Servant? Do you know any other details on it? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:54, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Scrap the whole thing and start again[edit]

As above, because Big Bang changed almost every monster's level, HP, MP and EXP. I know this is not easy, but at least we can update it properly. Uglyface86 (talk) 17:09, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. Should we add any additional columns to {{MapleStory/Monster}} (like drops and locations)? I've gone ahead and blanked out MapleStory/Monsters/Level 1-10. Also note that we need to update [[MapleStory/Monsters/Complete list]] as it re-grows. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 15:59, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, sure. But some monsters have A LOT of locations, and some drops are common in most monsters. So, I think we should focus on the HP, MP, EXP, and levels of the monsters for now. :D Uglyface86 (talk) 16:10, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah that miscellaneous info can be copied from other databases. Todo list, below: --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:19, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Level 131-200 is a bit long, so it would be best to split it further in 131-140, 141-150, etc until 191-200. PirateIzzy is working out the details on the common Monster List, so cleanup the Complete Monster List will have to wait until after PirateIzzy is finished. So i was thinking to cleanup Event Monster from scratch, but i have some questions: Bot-catching Monsters are removed in GMS, but seems to exist in EMS so should it stay or removed? I would vote for removed, since a small info on Level Monster List should be enough. And what about Quest Monsters? Paco (talk) 20:12, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Yes, we can break it up. In the past there weren't really any monsters in that range, but now it is more common since the old high level monsters had their levels shifted down to make room for more new ones. We should no longer integrated non-GMS data into the same pages. If users want an EMS database, they should make their own pages for it. It is just confusing. I don't know anything about the availability or languages used in the non-GMS (English/global) version. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 23:00, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Avoidability[edit]

I was just wondering, is it even worth keeping the avoidability stat on the monster pages anymore? Avoidability hardly makes a difference now compared to pre Big Bang. If possible, maybe we could put Physical/Magical Damage Reduction (PDR/MDR) instead. --PirateIzzy (talk) 20:45, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

We could scrap avoid. Might as well leave it. Additional stats are useful. While we're in the middle of this, should we modify the monster template to use clear parameters (e.g. hp=, mp=, avoid=, exp=) rather than sequential, arbitrary ones that were dictated by the original creators of the template? It would mean a lot of additional work to clean things up, but would make it easier to update in the future, methinks. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:58, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
