About merging this page to any other[edit]

As the starter of this page, I'd like to at least make clear what my objectives were in making it:

  1. A complete and organized listing of all Figures (not just the Skylanders themselves, but also Vehicles, Magic Items, and Traps) as well as each of their Variants.
  2. Helpful details about any differences between Variants (as I haven't found any other site that has everything in one place and complete and clear, especially surprising on the Skylanders Wiki, I believed this would be the next best place to have this info).
    • These two points being quite useful for both general collectors who want to truly "catch them all", as well as players like myself who are super-new to the series and want to make sure to not waste money buying any figures they don't actually want. Knowing what the differences are and how they work in-game in advance is a majorly needed thing for this.
  3. Explain the differences in how different figures do/can interact with the various games, including Portal differences

I hope this helps avoid any confusion, at least as to what my goal is. Jarie Suicune (talk) 14:11, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Oh, and as such I think it should be a separate page, as it is not about the series in general, but providing information specifically about the figures themselves, which can be easily linked to from any other Skylanders pages. Jarie Suicune (talk) 14:17, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
In order to fit the scope of this site, point #3 has to be the priority, with points #1 and #2 being ancillary to the third, and only provided to fulfill the mission stated in point #3. Procyon 15:01, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
In that case, there should be no problem? If you look at the listing, those that I've finished adding show that that's exactly what's happening. I wasn't sure how to list everything best, so it is a bit choppy looking I guess, but the point of indicating the variants and what that difference is should be easy to see. To check, is there a complaint on this that I am missing? Jarie Suicune (talk) 15:05, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
As far as I understood, skylanders were essentially figurines which you could connect to specific games. Where do these other things appear? Are the vehicles/traps real world objects, or do they only show up within specific games? -- Prod (talk) 15:13, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
What I'd suggest is you make the main Skylanders page an index, which links to all the skylanders pages for each game. That way all the game-specific guides have complete information within them, and the index page doesn't turn into a guide on its own. -- Prod (talk) 15:31, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
All Skylanders figures work on every sequel Skylanders game. So functionally, a list of figures that work with SuperChargers (the latest game) is no different than a list of all the figures. Basically, if you break the list down for each game, you have just the same list copied 5 times but with less figures listed each time. Since it's this far along, a single complete list that explains how they all work for each given game in the series is far more efficient. Jarie Suicune (talk) 15:53, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I understand the point of what you (Jarie) are doing, and yes, Prod, the figurines work on multiple versions of each game. This could, in theory, be a subpage off of Skylanders. There's precedence for this, particularly with Pokémon/Pokédex. So technically, this page should be moved to Skylanders/Figures, or something similar. There's no complaint about what you're doing, we're just very protective of the site's scope. At worst, this can be seen outside of scope, and at best, it can be see as a tangential scope to SW's. That's why if the focus is on that third point, specifically how these figures interact with the game, and strategy to use them, it stays firmly on ground that we're comfortable covering. We definitely do not include collecting figures as something we want to cover. Therefore, even though there are Pokémon collectibles, we don't address them because they have no in-game function (presently). However, amiibos are conceivably something we would cover, and Skylanders figures are essentially the same thing as amiibos. Procyon 16:25, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for understanding. Yes, it's much in concept like the Pokedex, just with real-world figures and their corresponding in-game characters. I hadn't numbered my concepts in any particular order (the numbering was not even done by myself, that was edited in by someone). Yes, the main point is to quickly and easily know which in-game version of any given character is being played by using a particular figure, the problem being how every resource I've checked prior to making this has these rather spread out across multiple pages, often lacking particular details of what those differences are in-game. I don't mind the list being merged to another relevant page, or being renamed to something more accurate, but I would hope to have it finished first (I should be able to have it done soon, Saturday at the latest, I think; reorganizing my personal list of this data to work here was awkward), so as to not be confusing to finish. I do suspect a different organization method may be more efficient, but I'm generally new to this myself. As to the Character links, I wasn't sure if anyone would make character pages (as I think I've seen some games here have). If that would be something that won't be done, I don't mind removing the links. Jarie Suicune (talk) 19:42, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm mostly concerned about all the subpages that are linked. Perhaps once one is created, it'll give us a better idea of possible organizations. -- Prod (talk) 20:24, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Personally, I would get rid of the links. Individual pages for each figure would almost certainly fall outside of our scope, and is better left to a Skylander's specific wiki. We could potentially link to such pages (if they exist) on another wiki, like we do for each individual Pokemon on Bulbapedia, although we don't have a partnership established with any such wiki. A partnership isn't a required prerequisite, just desirable. Procyon 20:34, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
If it's the character links in question, then I'm fine with them just being text or linking to the characters on the Skylanders Wiki. I should have the listing done soon either way. After the list is done, I don't mind it being rearranged to be more comfortable or useful (I won't have any personal use for it at that point, as I have my own version of the list on my computer, so will not likely see any future edits). I just hope this compilation with help other players as well! Jarie Suicune (talk) 20:54, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
OK, done listing the info I've got. Cripes, that was a bit to do. Hopefully it is at least decent enough in general, and I hope it does help the gamers. If it needs cleaned up or whatever, it's ready for it now. Thank you for allowing me this contribution to the community! Jarie Suicune (talk) 04:58, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
