Use[edit]

I just saw this on some site and thought I'd copy it here. It'd be useful but only on subpages for guides, and in that case I don't think it'd be beneficial to make it widespread either. But maybe there'll be a use for it somewhere. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 07:01, 25 June 2006 (PDT)

Problem[edit]

This doesn't work properly for me -- Prod 17:34, 5 October 2006 (CDT)

That's because it's designed for BlueCloud, so compatibility fixes would be needed for other skins. I'm not sure about using this template very widely; when I go to EarthBound/Happy Happy Village it looks like I'm reading a guide called Happy Happy Village. New users might also see this and not realise the pages are invisibly subpaged. GarrettTalk 18:01, 5 October 2006 (CDT)
Yeah, I've never liked this template much either. I think it should be deprecated. --DrBob (Talk) 01:02, 6 October 2006 (CDT)
Is $wgRestrictDisplayTitle set to true? If so, that will prevent it from working if you try changing anything other than the first letter's capitalizaton. --Sigma 7 04:12, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
It should be that as long as the new title "normalizes" to the actual page title, it should work. I'm not too sure what uses it has beyond the capitalization thing. -- Prod (Talk) 04:54, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Also useful if an underscore actually belongs in the title (by default underscores are replaced with spaces). But there are valid spots where we use this template where the title doesn't normalize (Pokémon Trading Card Game/Imakuni comes to mind where the name should have a question mark after it. Actually, that's the only case I can think of for this) --Skizzerz 05:11, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
It would be useful for correctly displaying the title for Project: Snowblind, if it were enabled. Without it, the pages would be titled Project Snowblind instead. However, the mediawiki documentation doesn't recommend enabling this, and prefers that pages should match their normalized titles. --Sigma 7 13:45, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps we should make a template like WP:Template:Correct title? Just a text caption saying it's the wrong title, without any fanciness to correct the title at the top. -- Prod (Talk) 21:55, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
