Welcome to Ninja training. This mission will teach you the basics of stealth, item use, and enemy behavior. If you are unfamiliar with the game controls, please read the Controls section of this guide. If you get spotted during this mission, back off and stay hidden. Wait until your Ki Meter changes back to Tenchu1-Ki1.png before proceeding. Pay attention to the number next to your Ki Meter, this indicates the proximity of enemies. Learn patience, much or your time will be spent watching your enemies and waiting for an opportunity to strike.

The room you start in is a great place to practice different types of rolls and jumping techniques. Get comfortable with the movement controls. When you are ready to take on your first enemy, carefully jump over the low wall directly in front of where you start and stay close to the wall on the right. Stop right there! An enemy Swordsman is near by, notice room around the corner with a guard on patrol. Press yourself against the wall (Hold R1 button).

While you are against the wall, slide to the left of the screen, and get near the corner, don't go to far to the edge, because this guard will sometimes spot you though the corner. You can use L1 button to get a good look around the corner. Wait until his back or side is turned towards you, let go of R1 button and slide (double tap Left dpad,Left dpad) out from cover. Run up behind your first victim and when you get close, hold still and press Square button to slit his throat! Congratulations, you executed your first stealth kill.

When you are ready to move on, jump up and grab the wall ledge nearby and pull yourself up. Notice the next ledge ahead of you is a lot higher up and can't be reached by jumping. This is a situation when your Grappling Hook comes in handy. Stand a safe distance back and face the tall ledge. Select the Grappling Hook Tenchu1-Items-Grapplinghook.png in your inventory, Press and hold Triangle button to enter the first person aiming mode. Use the Neutral dpad to aim for the top edge, where you would like to be hanging from. Don't aim too high, or you might miss the edge and end up on the platform with the enemy facing you.

Let go of Triangle button to throw the hook, you will be zipped up to the ledge, but don't pull yourself up just yet. There is a Swordsman patrolling back and forth along the new walkway. Observe his patrol route, and when his back is away from your location, pull up, get yourself close, and perform another stealth kill.

Move on to the next room by following the walkway. Stick to the right wall, there should be a Spear Warrior down below in the room with the shallow water. Special Note: Depending on what randomly selected layout you get, this enemy may be absent.

This enemy can be tricky to sneak up on, due to the strange patrol he follows. Wait patiently for a chance to drop down and stealth kill him. The next area is only accessible via Grappling Hook, and is above and directly across the walkway you entered from. When you get up to the new area, turn to your right and stick to the short wall near the long hallway.

You should notice a Swordsman on patrol, he shouldn't be a problem. This guard will come close to the corner, he'll turn around, walk away from you and head down the hall, stop and repeat. Wait for your chance and quickly take his life. Crouch down and carefully approach the low room in front of you. Select the Shurikens Tenchu1-Items-Shuriken.png in your equipment.

Tenchu1-Screen-Level0-14.jpg

The Shurikens are used the same way the Grappling Hook is used, except they take a little bit longer to reach the target after being thrown. We are going to aim and throw a Shuriken at the Swordsman patrolling below, not the archer to the right. Aim a little bit ahead of where the guard is going to walk to make sure we can hit him.

Once the Shuriken is thrown, don't wait for it to hit. Instead, quickly roll backwards and get out of view of the guards below. After they calm down, approach the edge a second time and throw another Shuriken. Two hits should kill this enemy. Back off and wait until the Bowman is calm. Follow the right side of the walkway you are on and get near the wall. Drop down and flatten yourself to the wall near the Bowman, slide near him and wait.

Once he turns around, quickly slide out and kill him. Move on to the low wall at the other end of this room. Climb over it and move along to the left. Flatten against the second low wall to avoid being seen, keep moving left until you are in a comfortable spot. Move up and your Ninja will automatically grab onto the low wall and hang.

Just wait until the final enemy turns his back. Pull up and kill him. Special Note: Depending on what randomly selected layout you get, this enemy may be absent. Step though the doorway in front of you to complete the training mission. If you followed this strategy and were not spotted, you should a Grand Master ranking.
