Defendants' Antechamber[edit]

There are still fifteen minutes until your first trial in London officially begins, so you have a bit of time to speak to your new client. When asked whether you trust Magnus McGilded, you can pick either option.

Trial begins: Old Bailey Courtroom[edit]

The victim's Autopsy Report and the Crime Scene Photograph are filed in the Court Record. The autopsy states the cause of death as a single stab wound, and the photograph illustrates this, as it shows the murder weapon that had been plunged into the victim's abdomen. The victim is seated in the omnibus where his life had been taken.

The Defendant's Leather Gloves are filed in the Court Record. McGilded had been wearing these gloves when he was discovered by the police, and a bloodstain on the right glove seems to implicate him. Once Van Zieks has finished presenting his evidence, he will call three witnesses to the stand. These three witnesses claim to have seen the moment that the defendant stabbed the victim, further implicating him. Ryunosuke will have to use this opportunity to gather more information about the incident.

Beppo, Fairplay and Furst's Testimony: What the Witnesses Saw[edit]

- What the Witnesses Saw -
  1. Beppo: It, it was the last bus of the evening, so I had few customers. I remember it well.
  2. Fairplay: The victim and the man accused of killing him were sat next to each other inside the bus.
  3. Fairplay: Then out of the blue, the accused just reached over and plunged a knife right into his guts!
  4. Furst: That's right. He stabbed him! I screamed, I did! Couldn't help it.
  5. Beppo: As soon as I heard the scream, I stopped the bus. And, and then I saw it, too!

After the testimony, the Omnibus itself is filed in the Court Record. Feel free to examine it at your leisure, as it will be crucial to your case. For now, you can examine the bloodstain on the seat where the victim sat, the handle on the seat across from the victim's seat which reveals some of the driver's items when lifted, and the skylight that acts as a window between those seated inside and those seated outside.

What the Witnesses Saw: Cross Examination[edit]

Press the third statement. Ryunosuke attempts to ask Fairplay for a detailed account of the murder, but Jurors No. 3 and No. 1 suddenly decide that they've heard enough to vote for a guilty verdict. The trial isn't looking good at the moment, but Ryunosuke has no choice but to keep pressing for more information.

Press the fourth statement. Furst testifies that his eyes wandered to the skylight when he saw a knife sticking out of the body of one of the passengers below. Van Zieks then presents the knife that was found in the victim's body. It has blood on its blade that links it to the crime, and an "M" on its sheath that links it to Magnus McGilded. The Murder Weapon is filed in the Court Record. With this new information, Jurors No. 2 and No. 4 also vote for a guilty verdict, causing the jury to lean in favor of a guilty verdict with four out of six votes.

Press the fifth statement. Beppo testifies that he saw the victim on the floor, with the knife-wielding passenger attacking him as he stood over him. Press the first statement. Beppo notes that he doesn't believe the run was worth the twenty pence that he got for it, and the fact that a murder occurred on his own bus horrifies him. This is enough to swing Juror No. 5 to a guilty verdict, leaving only Juror No. 6 left to rule.

DGS icon Debtors Ledger.png

Juror No. 6 is adamant that the defendant is a generous philanthropist, until she sees van Zieks' evidence which exposes him as a loan shark that preys on the poor, including the victim himself. The Debtors' Ledger is filed in the Court Record. With all jurors now voting to end the trial, Ryunosuke and Susato have only one choice. Assert your right to a summation examination.

How summation examination works: Unless you want to hear it from Susato, the ultimate goal is to pit two jurors against each other. It might be simple at first but as things get harder, it may require pressing, evidence and even pursuing a juror should they give extra insight to the case. Once their statements were complete, that's when you get two conflicting statements against each other. This will help swing the giant pendulum to not guilty to keep the case going.

Judicial Findings: The Jurors' Contentions[edit]

Judicial Findings

- The Jurors' Contentions -

Juror No. 1: There was no one else inside the carriage at the time, so it has to have been him.
Juror No. 2: I trust the driver. He has an excellent memory, it seems. Four passengers, with fares totalling twenty pence.
Juror No. 3: He stuck the chap next to him just like this! Brazen, I must say. Absolutely brazen!
Juror No. 4: I have simply typed and collated all the statements made thus far, and drawn the logical conclusion.
Juror No. 5: You can trust the guild. Fair fares is our motto. We haven't raised prices above fourpence for years.
Juror No. 6: The scoundrel, stabbing that poor man on the floor! It beggars belief!

Jury Examination: The Defence's Rebuttal[edit]

Pit Jurors No. 2 and No. 5 against each other. Juror No. 2 recalls Beppo having testified that he took the fares of four passengers totaling twenty pence, but this contradicts Juror No. 5's statement that fares haven't been raised above four pence. This leaves a difference of four pence between the guild's fares and the fares collected by Beppo. Could this difference be explained by a fifth passenger?

Pit Jurors No. 3 and No. 6 against each other. Juror No. 3 recalls Fairplay's testimony that the victim was stabbed in his seat, while Juror No. 6 recalls Beppo's testimony that he was stabbed while on the floor. Did the witnesses really see two different moments of the crime? Select It's out of the question. When prompted, present the Autopsy Report, which clearly states that the victim was only stabbed once. This sows enough doubt to reverse a majority of the jury's decisions, allowing the trial to continue.
