Regular stage enemies[edit]

Anemone Bat
Kai no Bouken enemy anemone.png
Anemones grow above and below platforms and remain stationary wherever they are found. They serve as the most basic obstacle that Ki must avoid.
Kai no Bouken enemy bat.png
Bats cling to the underside of platforms until they sense an intruder approach. Then they drop down and slowly fly about in a small circle before returning to their perch.
Worm Slug
Kai no Bouken enemy worm.png
Worms slowly crawl back and forth along the tops of platforms. They continue in one direction until they reach the end, and then they turn around.
Kai no Bouken enemy blob.png
Slugs move just like worm do, but they are a bit taller, so they pose a bigger threat to Ki.
Raven Slime
Kai no Bouken enemy raven.png
Ravens fly back and forth in at a particular height. They fly in one direction until they hit something, and then they turn around anf fly back.
Kai no Bouken enemy slime.png
Slimes are basic creatures that hop around in a small area. There are four types of slimes. Green slimes are basic, and Black slimes are stronger! …which is meaningless since Ki can't fight either of them. Red slimes can cast magic up at the ceiling while Blue slimes cast magic to the left or to the right.
Archmage Ghost
Kai no Bouken enemy wizard.png
Wizards stay in one place while they chant and shoot their destructive spells at Ki. Blue wizards cast a spell of invisibility which makes them visible only shortly before they fire their spell.
Kai no Bouken enemy ghost.png
Ghosts fly through a room, hovering up and down in a wave pattern as they go. Blue ghosts can be seen, but orange ghosts remain invisible unless you find a magic candle.
Beholder Urchin
Kai no Bouken enemy beholder.png
Beholders fly back and forth at a given height just like ravens do. However, orange beholders have a special behavior. They wiggle back and forth at a given location whenever Ki is rising off the ground.
Kai no Bouken enemy urchin.png
Urchins cling to make different surfaces. They make small movements at random, although they generally stick to one particular area. They are rather small and easy to jump over.
Frog Roper
Kai no Bouken enemy frog.png
Frogs hang out in one particular location. However, they like to jump into the air periodically. In order to ensure Ki's safety, you must time your jump over frogs when they are not leaping.
Kai no Bouken enemy roper.png
Ropers are another type of stationary enemy that sit on platforms or hang from ceilings. They are big and flop around, but they can't move, so they're more of a nuisance than a threat.
Mad Element Giant Leech
Kai no Bouken enemy mad element.png
Mad Elements are blobs that grow out of cracks in the floor whenever Ki approaches. It's difficult to know where they might spring up, so move about cautiously when you think one is near.
Kai no Bouken enemy giant leech.png
Giant Leeches drop down from the ceiling whenever they sense that Ki is near. Unlike Mad Elements, you can actually see where they will come from. Still, they are likely to take you by surprise the first couple of times that you encounter them.
Owl Eagle
Kai no Bouken enemy owl.png
Owls are not very menacing. They remain perched on top of columns and never move. Still, they must be completely avoided.
Kai no Bouken enemy eagle.png
Just like owls, eagles sit perched on top of particular columns. They never move from them, and they are taller than owls so Ki must jump higher to avoid them.
Snail Spike
Kai no Bouken enemy snail.png
Snails look like a slug with a large cone stuck on top. They move just like slugs as well, but because their cone sticks up so high, you must be especially careful when jumping over them.
Kai no Bouken enemy spike.png
Spikes form on the undersides of certain platforms. They only fall to the ground below when Ki gets close enough to pass under them. They are still dangerous when they fall to the ground, so jump over them.
Quail Axe-Beak
Kai no Bouken enemy quail.png
Quails may be small birds, but they are quite a threat to Ki. They run back and forth on platforms at a rapid speed, making it quite difficult to safely move along any platform that they occupy.
Kai no Bouken enemy axe beak.png
Axe-Beaks are twice the trouble that quails are, because they are twice as tall. This makes them even harder to jump over, so you'd better move with them once you land on any ledge they occupy.
Rock Man Tall Rock Man
Kai no Bouken enemy rock man.png
Rock Men move about certain platforms, taking a few steps before springing into the air like a frog. Occasionally, they will tuck themselves into a ball and roll across their platform at a faster speed.
Kai no Bouken enemy rock man tall.png
Tall Rock Men are just like their smaller cousins, except they lack the ability to tuck up and roll around. They are twice as tall, so Ki must jump higher to clear them.
Bee Will o'Whisp
Kai no Bouken enemy bee.png
Bees fly back and forth along a certain height like Ravens. However, from time to time, they also spit out a blast of fire which travels ahead of them. Be sure to avoid this blast.
Kai no Bouken enemy will o'whisp.png
The tower's own defense against intruders, will o'whisps fly rapidly through certain channels making safe passage next to impossible with the defense of the magic ring which can nullify their attack.
Rust Monster Salamander
Kai no Bouken enemy rust monster.png
Rust Monsters are really on the lookout for armor wearing warriors, not cloth wearing maidens. Still, they present a danger to Ki as they plod along their platforms.
Kai no Bouken enemy salamander.png
Salamanders remain stationary in a fix position. However, they belch out blasts of fire on a regular basis. While it is important to avoid the salamanders, avoiding their fire is much more difficult.
Vampire Ogre
Kai no Bouken enemy vampire.png
Although they may not resemble more familiar vampires, these blood suckers remain stationary, just waiting for anyone foolish enough to get close to them. Only a cross can chase them away from the ground they stand upon.
Kai no Bouken enemy ogre.png
Like Vampires, Ogres stubbornly stand guard at particular locations, and will kill anyone who dares to pass them. Also like vampires, a particular item can and must be found to remove them from their post.
Acid Mimic
Kai no Bouken enemy acid.png
Acid drips down from the ceilings of certain platforms at regular intervals. You must carefully time Ki's crossing of these platforms in order to avoid getting dripped on.
Kai no Bouken enemy mimic.png
Some treasure chests are are actually mimics, a monster who takes the form of a desirable object, only to attack the unwary adventurer who gets too close. They are, however, a little too antsy for their own good, and often give themselves away by moving around.
Basilisk Lion
Kai no Bouken enemy basilisk.png
Like Salamanders, Basilisks are also very stationary creatures. They never move from their location, but the sight of a Basilisk has the ability to turn adventurers to stone. When they open their eyes and begin to flash, make sure that Ki is looking away from these creatures to avoid a terrible fate.
Kai no Bouken enemy lion.png
Although it may be hard to believe, Lions are not really enemies. They are actually a friend to loyal maidens of Ishtar, and grant them the power of the Barrier when they are touched.

Special stage enemies[edit]

Mushlin Inky
Kai no Bouken enemy special mushroom.png
From the game Libble Rabble, the mushrooms known as Mushlins inhabit the special floors of the tower, bouncing back and forth along certain platforms.
Kai no Bouken enemy special Inky.png
The light blue ghost from Pac-Man known as Inky appears in several of the special floors, floating left and right, or up and down, at particular locations.
Nyamco Galaga Scorp
Kai no Bouken enemy special Nyamco.png
The boss cat from Mappy also occupies some of the special floors, hopping up and down with much greater frequency than frogs.
Kai no Bouken enemy special Galaga scorp.png

The rarely seen scorpion transform from the game Galaga can be found in some of the later special floors. Unlike in Galaga, they are no bonus. They fly in tight circles, and must be carefully avoided, especially when there are two of them.

Bosconian Pooka
Kai no Bouken enemy special Bosconian.png
The cores of the Bosconian bases can be found in particular floors. They launch missiles from the cores at regular intervals. While the cores do not move, the missiles must be carefully avoided.
Kai no Bouken enemy special Pooka.png
Pooka, the red tomato enemy from Dig Dug make an appearance in the special stages as well. He innocently moves back and forth along platforms.
"Heal Slime" Ganko Shokunin
Kai no Bouken enemy special head.png
Not exactly the Heal Slimes from Dragon Quest III, these homages to the blue tentacled creatures are no friend of Ki's. They appear on one floor and pursue her relentlessly.
Kai no Bouken enemy special Endoh.png
Originally an "emotional toy" from 1986 that said encouragement phrases when a string was pulled. He spouts the phrases which must be avoided (and the enemy itself).
