You are now on Monkey Island™. After the blue-eyed monkey and Herman Toothrot pass, click anywhere in the play area to get back on your feet. Pick up the banana on the left, and enter the jungle. You are on the southern beach. The grey-black moving dot is the monkey. Your current goal is to feed it five bananas, and you must explore the island to find them.

Finding the Bananas[edit]

You move faster by clicking on the edge of the map, so click on the western edge of the map, where the river flows. Enter the fort, which is situated at the north edge of the crater. You may encounter Herman Toothrot multiple times on the island, but there is nothing to gain or lose your conversations with him. Grab the rope, push the cannon, and pick up the unloaded gunpowder and cannon ball. Exit the fort, move east along the river, and enter the river fork (where the river and dry river bed intersect). Climb the first set of footholds, and push the boulder's end of the primitive art twice. If you wish to move the other end of the primitive art, pull it twice instead. Climb the next footholds, and push the rock at the edge of the cliff. If you positioned the primitive art correctly, it will hit the banana tree. (If not, climb back down and position it so that the boulder is as far away from the camera as possible. climb back up, pick up the heap o' rocks, and give the rock another push.) Climb back down the two sets of footholds, and pick up the rock on top of note at the foreground. Use a handful of gunpowder with the dam, then use the cannon ball on the noteworthy rock. The flint and steel will create a spark, ignite the gunpowder, break the dam, and flood the dry river bed. Go to the pond at the end of the formerly dry river bed, and pick up the rope beside the unhealthy-looking man.

The branch and stump are circled.

Exit the pond, move south, and go to the crack. In order to reach the oars at the bottom, you must tie the two ropes on a strong branch and then a sturdy stump (shown right). Return to the southern beach, where a pair of bananas have dropped because of the impact of the boulder on the tree. Pick them up, and use the oars on the boat. Back at the map, row to the northeast, then north, and land at the beach. You are now on the northern section of the island, which was previously inaccessible on foot. Visit the village, go to the left, and pick up the pair of bananas in the bowl of fruit. You now have five bananas.

The Monkey[edit]

As you attempt to leave the village, a trio of cannibals will stop you and lock you in a room, but you keep your bananas. Inside this room, pick up the skull and use the loose board that was underneath. Slide through the hole to escape the village, and return to the boat. Row south, land at the (eastern) beach, and find the monkey at the southern section of the island. Because the monkey is very active, it may be somewhat difficult to give a banana to it. However, after you give it the first banana, it should wait long enough for you to give it another. After giving it all five bananas it will follow you until you either use the boat or progress in the game. Go to the eastern section of the island, enter the clearing, and walk to the palisade. The totem pole that is further away from the camera has a nose protruding to the right. Pulling it will create an entryway that will close once you let go, but the monkey will mimic you and pull on the nose indefinitely.

Enter the Monkey Head[edit]

Inside the palisade, pick up the wimpy little idol and return to the cannibals' village. Walk up to the bowl of fruit, and then meet the cannibals on the right. Tell them that you will give them anything, and hand over the wimpy little idol. Enter the hut in which they attempted to lock you, pick up the banana picker, and give it to Herman Toothrot, who is outside. After he gives you the monkey head key, exit and re-enter the village. In your conversation with the friendly natives, there are several ways to obtain what you need. The following lists one possible sequence of dialogue for Guybrush:

  • Well, actually, there is something...
  • I'm looking for somebody.
  • I'm looking for 30 dead guys and one woman.
  • Give me the potion! I'll use it on LeChuck!
  • Where is he hiding it?
  • I'm off to find LeChuck and get the root!
  • What's the Eadhay of the Avigatornay?

(Note that their native language is Pig Latin.) As they talk about the head of the navigator, give them the leaflet, and the natives will give you the head in exchange. Return to the gigantic monkey head, and use the monkey head key in its ear. Enter the monkey head, and take out the head of the navigator. (Hell may be confusing because going backwards rarely brings you back to the previous area, even if it's just the camera scrolling. To go back to the first area of Hell, keep going back from where you came from on each screen, and you will reach it shortly.) Keep following the head's directions, you will eventually find LeChuck's ship.

Ghost ship[edit]

Under Monkey Island
Completed Part Three: Under Monkey Island. Guybrush traveled into the Monkey Head and got the root.

Talk to the head of the navigator, and persuade him to let you use his necklace either by begging or coercing him. Use the necklace and enter the ship. Enter the door on the left, which leads you to the captain's cabin. Use the magnetic compass with the key, otherwise LeChuck will prevent you from taking it. Climb down the hatch on the right, proceed through the passage, and pick up the ghost feather by the ghost chickens. Go to the previous room, and use the ghost feather on the sleeping ghost crew's feet until he drops the jug o' grog. Take it, return to the room with the ghost chickens, and use the key on the hatch. Climb down the hatch, use the jug o' grog on the dish to intoxicate the rat, and pick up some cooking grease. Return to the deck, and use the glob of grease on the door on the right in order to prevent it from creaking. Pick up the ghost tools beside the ghost guard, go back to the room with the ghost chickens, and use the ghost tools to open the glowing crate on the right. Look into the crate, and escape with the voodoo root. At the village, the natives will give you a magic seltzer bottle in exchange for the root. The contents of the bottle will kill any ghosts on contact. Upon returning to the ghost ship, you find that the ghost ship is gone. It is now time to return to Mêlée Island™.
