Chop a man's leg off or leave him for dead.

After the recap, the episode begins with Lee about to attack a walker. Press on the target and Lee will stab it with his axe. Newcomer Mark is out hunting with Lee, but it isn't long before the duo comes across trouble. Whether or not you urge Mark to shoot the bird, a the sound of a scream will have them spring into action. The sound is followed to a couple of students and their teacher, with the latter caught in a bear trap. Walkers will begin to surround the area, leading into an important decision and two possible outcomes:

  • With the safety release removed from the trap, Lee can only save David by chopping off his leg. Look at David's leg to begin the process. Lee will then bring his axe into position. Chop David's leg until he's free from the trap, and he will be carried off to safety. In this case, Travis trips and is taken by the walkers instead.
  • The alternative to saving David is leaving him to the walkers. The group loses David, but Travis is simply injured after his panic causes him to accidentally get shot. In this case, Travis is carried off for treatment in David's place.

Motor Inn[edit]

Decide how to split the food between the group.

The group escapes back to their safe haven, but Lilly isn't pleased by the newcomers. You can either take a side in her argument with Kenny or stay neutral, though someone will be angered regardless of Lee's decision. Lilly will then give Lee four food items which he must split between the ten hungry survivors. At this point Lee can have conversations with Kenny, Lilly, Larry, and Clementine. Depending on which survivor you give food to, Lee can strengthen relationships or stir up animosity:

  • If Doug was saved in the first episode, he will refuse the food, citing Lee's brave rescue of him as his primary reason.
  • If Carley was saved in the first episode, giving her food strengthens her relationship with Lee. However, if you choose not to give her any food, she will point out to Lee that she understands his decision and remains loyal.
  • Katjaa refuses the food, wanting the food to go to Duck instead.
  • Kenny also refuses the food, also referring to Duck as his first priority. If you return to Kenny after giving food to Duck, he will no longer refuse it and offer Lee a place on his family's RV. However, if you choose not to give him any food in the end, he won't mind as long as you fed the kids.
  • Duck will accept the food, strengthening Lee's relationship with the boy's family.
  • Clementine will accept the food.
  • Lilly refuses the food initially, and only takes it if Lee urges her to.
  • Larry will accept the food; you can also loan him Lee's axe at this point.
  • Mark will accept the food, and can also take the axe. Decide carefully whose hands the weapon should fall into.
  • When Lee has only one piece of food left, he can choose to give it to one of the remaining survivors or take it for himself. The group will take note of his actions either way.
Follow the onscreen prompts to fight back against the new zombie.

After Lee distributes the food, Katjaa will notify the group of the wounded newcomer's death. It isn't long before he becomes a walker and attacks Katjaa, beginning a sequence of quick-time events. Depending on who Lee gave the axe to, Larry or Mark will rush to save Lee. If Carley is still alive, Mark or Larry will miss and she will save Lee by shooting the walker instead.

Following the incident, Ben explains to the other survivors that transformation does not depend on whether or not a person is bitten; all it takes is death with an intact brain to become a zombie. Lee can inquire with disbelief that they're all infected or simply deny the student's claims, but he insists that he's seen what the group would rather not believe. After this horrifying realization, the group is approached by two outsiders who claim to have food, in exchange for the inn's gas. Your decision doesn't matter here, as Lee is outnumbered by the group's hunger, and so the trek to the St. John dairy farm beings.

St. John Dairy[edit]

Repair the swing using a spare rope and board.

After talking to Doug or Carley, the St. John brothers begin to question Lee on his past and his group's status. They will remember his answers, and whether or not you decided to be open or secretive. Lee, Mark, Doug/Carley, and Ben will then meet the brothers' mother; if Lee's answers to her don't match up to his answers to the brothers, they will point out the discrepancy. After the conversation, you will be given control of Lee on the field, who is sent to check out the farm's defenses while Doug/Carley and Ben retrieve the other survivors. Mark, meanwhile is investigating the safety of the farm on his own. Look at the swing and offer to fix it for Clementine and Duck. At the other side of the farm, look at the board and Lee will comment on how it could be used for the swing. Use the saw nearby to cut the board.

Push the zombies off the fence to get it working again.

At this point, you can use the gate at the front of the house to get through to the porch. Open the shoe bucket in the corner for some rope. Return to the swing and use the board and rope to repair it. Then, talk to Andy by the generator. Lee and Mark agree to scan the fence's perimeter and remove any walkers that have gotten caught in it. When the duo reaches the first walker, look at the arrow to raise some suspicions. Take the arrow and push the zombie to finish the job. Do the same for the next walker, which continues to hang onto the fence after being pushed. Chop the hand with the axe, and then repeat the action for the other. If you gave Mark food earlier, he will thank Lee during the walk to the third walker. Push the fencepost to help Mark lift the fence back up again. The electricity will then suddenly switch on, but before the two have the opportunity to question this further, Mark is shot by an arrow. Once Lee takes cover behind the tractor, lean over the left side of it and pull the chock . Now move over to the right side and select the plow lever. Follow the tractor's movements to be shielded from the bombardment of arrows. Pull the zombie that gets in the way and continue. The next obstacle will pose more of a challenge; push the zombie and it will pull back. Kick the zombie repeatedly and complete the QTE to continue moving forward.

Lee and Mark make it back to the farm just in time for the arrival of the other survivors, with most now questioning the safety of the place. Nevertheless, one of the brothers offers to help Lee scope out the nearby bandit camp, vowing that his family won't stand for such acts of violence. Before leaving, talk to Clementine by the swing. Clementine asks Lee to push her, and the two have a discussion in which you can make her more hopeful. You can also talk to Kenny, Lilly, and Larry before approaching the brothers on the porch. Danny St. John will then lead Lee into the woods for some reconnaissance.
