Controls[edit]

  • Joystick: In the Amiga version (which requires an A1200 or higher to play), you must use the joystick to make your currently selected character walk left and right, crouch, and jump; in the MS-DOS version, this is replicated by the arrow keys (you can also use Space to make the character jump).
  • Button: In the Amiga version you must use the button on the joystick to activate your currently-selected character's special ability (Tony can run, Dig 'Em can blow bubbles at snorkeling ants while in water, Coco can climb and Sam can fly); in the MS-DOS version, this is replicated by the Alt key.

Menus[edit]

The game's main menu displays five options: HIGHSCORES, ANLEITUNG, OPTIONS, START and EXIT. HIGHSCORES will display the game's high score table. OPTIONS allows you to toggle the game music ("MUSIK"), effects ("EFFEKTE") on ("EIN") or off ("AUS"). However, this has no effect in DOSBox. START will begin the game. ANLEITUNG, which means "instructions", will bring up the following German text:

The first paragraph explains about Amiga joystick control (and the characters' special abilities) while the second and third ones explain about MS-DOS keyboard control (and how to activate the characters' special abilities).

Characters[edit]

Tony, Dig 'Em, Coco and Sam[edit]

These four Kellogg Company mascots are the protagonists of the game; Tony the Tiger is the mascot for Frosted Flakes (known as "Frosties" in Germany, and other European countries), while Dig 'Em Frog is the mascot for Honey Smacks (which is why he is only referred to as Smacks, through the game), Coco the Monkey is the mascot for Cocoa Krispies (known as "Coco Pops" in Germany, and other European countries), and Toucan Sam is the mascot for Froot Loops. The game will automatically start out with Tony, but when he enters a door with a picture of his head on it, the German text "MIT WEM MÖCHTEST DU SPIELEN?" (which means "With whom do you want to play?") will appear at the top of the screen - and you can initially only switch to Dig 'Em, as Coco is imprisoned by the enormous crocodile on the seventh stage, and Sam is imprisoned by the enormous snake on the fourteenth one, so you shall have to free them before you can switch to them. The characters have ten minutes to collect as many of their respective cereal as possible (they change when you switch between them) and finish each stage; if they run out of time (or life-hearts, of which they start out with six), not only will this cost them a life (which are shared between them), and send them back to the start of the stage, but they will also lose any cereals they had collected and points they had earned on that stage before their death! However, they shall regain a lost life-heart every time they collect fifty cereals and will regain all of their lost life-hearts every time they collect a giant instance of their respective cereal (which does not count towards the total of regular ones collected) - and, they shall also receive an extra life every 10000 points (and when they collect every vitamin in a stage). Chocos the Bear also appears to give the characters advice (in German) when they jump up and hit their heads on the undersides of the Super Mario Bros.-like question blocks which are placed throughout each stage; however, this guide is not going to detail their locations, or what Chocos says whenever one is activated. Oddly enough, Snap, Crackle and Pop, Cornelius Chicken, Loopy the Bee and Captain Rik are not present in the game - but those first three did later appear in Mission Kellogg's in 1999.

Ants[edit]

All the regular enemies in this game are ants, and there are eight different types of them; Walking Ants, of which there are two types, simply walk back and forth in a given area (the spear-carrying ones take two jumps to kill), while Jumping Ants will jump up with their spears whenever Tony and friends approach them, Charging Ants shall charge at them with their spears, Spear-Throwing Ants (which look identical to the second kind of Walking ones) shall throw their spears at them, Acorn-Throwing Ants will throw acorns at them, Flying Ants fly back and forth in a given area, and Snorkeling Ants swim back and forth in a given area (and can only get killed with a bubble blown by Dig 'Em, for only he can go into water). They are all worth 50 points.

Reptiles[edit]

All three bosses in this game are reptiles; for the Crocodile on the seventh stage, the game will automatically switch back to Dig 'Em (as only he can go into water), while for the Snake on the fourteenth one, it will automatically switch back to Coco (as only he can climb up his body, and he had previously been held prisoner by the aforementioned Crocodile), and for the Dragon on the twenty-first stage, it shall automatically switch back to Sam (as only he can fly, and he had previously been held prisoner, by that aforementioned Snake). They all take eight jumps to kill (but the head of the Snake is his only vulnerable point, even though Coco can walk on, and climb up, his body without injury) - and they are all worth 100 points every time you jump on them.

As mentioned above, the four main characters have ten minutes for to collect as much of their respective cereal (Tony: Frosted Flakes, Dig 'Em: Honey Smacks, Coco: Cocoa Krispies, Sam: Froot Loops) as possible in each stage; they change when you switch characters and at the end of a stage you shall receive 10 bonus points for every one you collected (but if you collected every single one, you will also receive an extra life). Some of the cereals are also hidden inside Tony Coins (giant gold coins, with a picture of Tony's head on them), which must get jumped on and broken to get to the cereals inside - and as again mentioned above, there are also giant cereals, which restore all the characters' lost life-hearts when collected.

Vitamins[edit]

There are usually six vitamins in each stage (A, B1, B6, C, D, and E), but on some occasions, one of them is omitted; as mentioned above, if you collect all of them regardless of amount, you'll receive an extra life at the end of the stage.

When your currently-selected character collects a milk bottle, he will become invulnerable for a short period of time (indicated by him flashing); any ant he touches during this time will perish (and if he is not Dig 'Em he will not be injured if he falls into a pool of water). However, in the case of the fight against the Crocodile on the seventh stage, Dig 'Em will still have to jump on the Crocodile in order to register one of the eight necessary hits.

There are three differently-coloured keys in each stage (blue, red and green), but on some occasions, one of them is, again, omitted; once your currently-selected character has collected one of them, it shall get displayed at the bottom of the screen, and they must be used to open doors with their respectively-coloured knobs (some of which lead to secret rooms, and if you miss any of the cereals in them, you may not have another chance to go back and get them). There's also an invisible door (with a red knob) in the training stage that shall only become visible when entered (after collecting the red key), and leads to a secret room from which you can warp to any stage in the game - which can prove to be very useful if you've ever had to abort this game (due to its length), because it allows you to warp back to your previous position and you do not have to start again.
