Assuming you've read the first part of the Pacifist Route guide, the Ruins, this is the second chapter. Please don't read this unless you've seen and done the Ruins section of the game.

Spooky Scary Skeletons[edit]

After you end up in Snowdin, you must continue going east. There are a few... strange occurrences that happen in here. For some reason, a branch breaks behind you, even though you did nothing to it. A strange sprite can be seen walking through two trees, and finally, the bridge. The bridge seems... off. Then, the strange person walks up behind you and tells you to shake his hand. He has a whoopee cushion in it. He introduces himself as Sans. Sans the skeleton. He then tells you his brother is hunting for a human and that you should hide. He then takes you across the bridge and hides you behind a very conveniently shaped lamp. Another skeleton runs up (Papyrus) and yells at Sans for not recalibrating his puzzles. Sans makes a few bad jokes (I'm not going to include them here so you don't have to cringe at his bad jokes) and Papyrus leaves. Sans then tells you it would make Papyrus's day if you went up to him. Well, easy enough. The next room has a path to the north that you can ignore. There is a save point and a dimensional box, which becomes portable later in the game, but for now, there's a Tough Glove inside of it that you can get. If you are in the genocide route, this is a good weapon but it's useless later in the game. We aren't doing that, however. Continue to the east and you find Sans talking to Papyrus. Of course, they notice you. After a few seconds of spinning around, Papyrus confronts you and tells you there are puzzles ahead and to "CONTINUE... ONLY IF YOU DARE!!" Yeah... this will be fun (not really).

That Doggo[edit]

Continue east until you find a stand with a dog symbol on the top of it and walk in front of it to initiate the Doggo battle. To spare him, avoid his first attack, which is a blue attack (so stop moving), and then pet him and he is spareable. Of course, you can mess with him a little more by ringing his bell a few times. He freaks out, and then stops talking, trying to get you to go away. It works.

Noticeably, the weapon "stick" allow you to immediately spare any dog-like enemy by using it from the [ITEM] command, including Doggo.

Let's go on. The next room has Sans near the entrance, who tells you about blue attacks. Ignore him. Also ignore the room to the north unless you're genuinely interested in the snowman quest. The quest doesn't give you any items, just the Snowman Piece, which is one of the better healing items, and you can come back at any time for this item. It's a good backup if you're really low on hp. Anyways. Backtrack to the crossroads that you came from, and go to the east. The next puzzle is the Invisible Electricity maze. Papyrus gets zapped no matter where you start, before giving you the orb and the answer to the puzzle. Wow. He's trying to capture us with this??? Ouch.

A map of the room with the Ball Game in it

The next room has the ice cream man and the "Ball" game. Get some Nice Cream, it's pretty good. After you fill your inventory, go down to the south end of the room, ignore the ball game, and continue.

The Dogi[edit]

The next room has a puzzle in the middle of it. Ignore it, select Jumble when Papyrus asks which puzzle is harder, and we're good. The next room is a save point with another mouse hole. Save and continue. The next room is easy. Go over to the northeast area and click the hidden switch. It's underneath the area where the snow has been cleared, in between two trees. Ignore the Lesser Dog. All it does is send the Annoying Dog (Toby Fox's in-game representation) to attack you on the bullet board. Please ignore him.

The hidden switch

Go to the southeast end of the room and you encounter the Dogi. The Dogi's battle is pretty easy to do. First, go to ACT and select "Roll Around," then do "Re-Sniff," and then select "Pet" on both dogs' ACT menus. Really easy. The Dogi thank you for expanding their minds and leave. This next room requires you to make all the X's into O's. This is the first of these puzzles. The next one has a switch behind a tree. Click the switch and step on the switch to complete it. The next room is also easy. It explains the Multicolor Tile Puzzle, which will be seen later. Here are the tile colors:

  • Red: Cannot be stepped on.
  • Orange: Makes you smell like oranges
  • Yellow: Makes water tiles electrocute you and electrocutes you
  • Green: Makes you fight a monster
  • Blue: It's water. Duh.
  • Purple: It makes you slide to the next to the next tile while making you smell like lemons, which stops water tiles from being impassable
  • Pink: They don't do anything. Step on it all you like. *step*

When the tiles stop changing color, it creates a pink tile path, at which Papyrus spins away without saying anything. Huh, that happened.

Dogs Dogs Yet More Dogs[edit]

The next room has a save point. And a dog. It's the Lesser Dog. Kill it (don't actually do that.) Continue to the next room. It's easy. Go to the bottom left square. Go east, north, west, south, east, then east again, south, west, north, east, and then north. Then go east. Should be easy.

The third XOXO puzzle

You instantly slide to the next area, where there's not really anything but Sans and his maddening pranks. Ignore the south path, go east. This room is a room filled with snow poffs. It's a snow poff. And this is also a snow poff. BEHOLD!!! It's a snow poff. This is a- wait this has 30g inside of it. What is this??? You obtain 30g if you inspect every snow poff once. If you do all that, or you don't care, continue to the snow poff blocking the path and interact with it. A dog head pops out, and a tail. Then it reveals its true form, the Greater Dog. Easiest mini boss ever. You can ignore 4 times, beckon/ignore, pet, play, and then pet twice, or use the stick. It instantly spares him if you use the stick.

The Final Encounter[edit]

After the battle, go through the exit that Greater Dog was guarding. There's a long bridge here. Odd... Go through the bridge to see Papyrus at the end. He pulls out an INSANE amount of weapons, which he says will activate upon him saying the word. He doesn't actually say the word, and he doesn't activate it. He says that this is too easy to kill you with, which is definitely true. He then says this is a decisive victory for him before going "NYEH HEH... HEH????" Well, that was definitely odd. Go to the eastern path. Here we are, Snowdin Town!

Snowdin[edit]

Now that you're here, there are tons of side quests that are only available after sparing Papyrus. Don't worry about those for now. Here are the places you need to go.

The Shop[edit]

The shop in Snowdin actually has some good stuff. Once again, if you're a completionist, you can get the Snowdin equipment set. Only the armor is really useful. Also, you can get Cinnamon Buns. When playing a Pacifist run, these heal your HP fully so they are really useful. Also, keep at least one so you can complete a side quest later. Believe me, it's all worth it.

The Inn[edit]

You can go here and take a nap. Doing this gives you 30 hp. That's way over your max hp. This lasts until you lose this hp. It's pretty useful, especially for later battles. There are more inns and stuff like this later, but yeah, you still want to do this because of how hard Papyrus's battle can be.

The Snow Tunnels[edit]

Note that these are useful for crossing Snowdin. Use them to reach Papyrus easier.

Bonetrousle[edit]

After exploring, go to the east end of the town and continue to the next area. The next area is just a path. Odd. Continue forward and it gets... really foggy. Then the camera pans over and your sprite appears, then Papyrus's. He says a few lines of dialogue before attacking. Spare him immediately. He then proceeds to use his "blue attack." Then your soul turns blue. To get through this battle, you must die 3 times, which is the easier and funnier way, or survive his attacks until he uses his special attack, which is easier to survive. Either way, surviving all his attacks is really hard.

After the battle, he laments that he can't even capture one human. He then says that he should be your friend instead. He defies gravity, jumps over you, and goes back to his house. Follow him.

The Hangout[edit]

Talking to Papyrus outside his house initiates the hangout. He takes you inside his house and lets you explore. Besides the sink which leads to the Dog Shrine on consoles, you can ignore everything and go to the door on the top right of the area. This will take you to his room. Talk to him to start. He then says he has a hangout handbook and that he is ready to start. He then asks you if you want to. Say yes. Then he says the next step is to put on nice clothes to show you care. He realizes you were wearing clothes this whole time and puts on his "special outfit". Truly horrifying. He then says that there is a secret to it. It's the hat. It has spaghetti under it. Eating it allows you to progress and allows the hangout to end. After a cutscene, Papyrus gives you his phone number so he can help you. Not that you need it. You have ME, and I know more than Papyrus will ever know. So, continue to where you fought Papyrus and go to Waterfall. Here we are!
