Trading merchants |
Only one character, Mortude the ropemaker, is related to any important quest. Still, you can find rope for free in some dungeons, e.g. the cyclops' cave.
You can ask little Merideth about any of the other inhabitants of the village.
See the page about trading merchants side-quest for more information about Dorin, Arbeth, Thindle, Marissa and Grison. You can increase your gold, if you trade a large number of goods with them.
You can win up to 50 gold coins from Dr. Cat, if you play his mini-game.
If you leave 4 beads on the board, no matter how many beads Dr. Cat takes, you can always take the remaining ones and win. Therefore, the game of 10 beads is reduced to a game of 6 (=10-4) beads.
There are four possible game starts, and that many tactics to win:
- If Dr. Cat plays first and takes 3 beads: you take 3 beads.
- If Dr. Cat plays first and takes 2 beads: you lose. Sorry.
- If Dr. Cat plays first and takes 1 beads: you take 1 bead, then take as many as to leave 4 beads.
- If you play first: take 2 beads, then take as many as to leave 4 beads.
Also note that:
- You can bet up to 50 Gold Coins per game;
- If Dr. Cat loses too much, he will always start playing first, and will always take 2 beads.
Therefore, you should bet 50 gold the first time you play, win that game and play no more.
Occasionally, Dr. Cat allows you to bet any amount of gold more than 50, but if he decides to play first and takes 2 beads, you lose lots of gold.
Gypsies and wanderers[edit]
A group of three gypsies lives just north of the town of Trinsic. Be careful: if you talk too much with Arturos or Andreas, they will hug you and steal your gold!
A second group of five gypsies travels from town to town. They can be met near the taverns of Britain, Paws, Trinsic and sometimes Yew. You can buy cheap nightshade fungus from Zoltan, you can pay Taynith and receive useful hints, and you can recruit Blaine. The juggler is a Companion with high dexterity; since he starts at a low level, he can level-up a lot. He is a very useful party member, but be careful: if you ask him to leave, he will refuse to join again!
A lonely wanderer, the bard Mandrake, can be met in Paws and near the taverns of the island towns of Jhelom, Buccaneer's Den and Moonglow; occasionally he can be met in Trinsic, too. If you ask him "news", he gives you important information about the last part of the game.

Actually, there is little special to do in Trinsic. Most of the inhabitants simply do their business. Note that Brandon is the only weapons merchant in Britannia who sells magic armor and magic helm.
The mantra and the rune[edit]
The Lord Mayor, Whitsaber, lives in the town square. He can also be met on the pier. Ask him about the mantra and the rune. He will tell you all you need.
The Rune of Honor is in plain view in the town square. After Lord Whitsaber authorized you, you can get it without penalties.
Is it that easy? Yes, but you will come back to Trinsic for a harder quest later in the game.
The shrine[edit]
Make sure all your party members wear swamp boots. Just follow the road south from Trinsic and across the swamp, fight the Gargoyles and defeat them. Use the mantra and the rune to free the shrine.
Meditation at the Shrine of Honor grants Str +1 and Int +1. Since it does not increases the most useful attribute, Dexterity, this shrine can be considered less important than most.
