Joe[edit]

The unlikely hero of the game, Joe is a movie fan who would give up money and love just to see his favorite big screen super-hero Captain Blue in action. After Joe obtains the V-Watch he transforms into Viewtiful Joe, who has the power to manipulate the world with VFX Powers such speeding and slowing down time and attacking at lightning fast speeds with unmatchable style. He's on a quest to save his girlfriend Silvia and prove to Captain Blue he's one of the greatest heroes of all time.

Silvia[edit]

Silvia is Joe's loving girlfriend, though quite frankly she's tired of him paying more attention to movies than her. After a visit to a theater with Joe, a shadowy figure reached out of the screen and pulled her into the movie. Joe then sets out on a quest to save her.

At the end of Joe's story, Silvia obtains a V-Watch which allows her to transform into her superhero form, Sexy Silvia. Silvia is unlockable as a playable character by finishing Adults Mode. Sylvia runs twice as fast and has a slightly higher jump than Joe, making her mobility the core of her play style. She takes double damage, also reiterating agility versus power, and she does not deal as much damage as Joe. Her combos on the basic enemies last around 12 hits, increasing her potential for V's, but it becomes a challenge when dealing with multiple enemies.

Captain Blue[edit]

Captain Blue is the famous movie superhero who fights for truth and justice. At the beginning of the game Blue gives Joe his V-Watch and trains him to be a hero.

Captain Blue is unlockable as a playable character by finishing Ultra-V Rated Mode. Captain Blue cannot see skulls. That's no big deal if you completed Ultra-V Rated, though. He also doesn't double-jump; he has one big jump, and holding jump after doing that will make him float in midair. He doesn't lose altitude at all while floating and can float for indefinite periods of time. One can perform several minor sequence breaks this way. He is also the strongest character in the game.

Alastor[edit]

The arch-rival of Viewtiful Joe, "The Midnight Thunderboy" Alastor is an electrical demon from the Underworld and an agent of the Jadow organization. After losing a battle with Joe, he says Joe's moves are "viewtiful", which Joe adapts into his "Viewtiful" title.

Alastor is unlockable as a playable character by finishing V-Rated Mode. Alastor uses "Devil Trigger" to enter his Henshin form. When he is in Henshin mode, his VFX constantly drains. However, this allows him certain advantages over the other characters, most notably that he can use Mach Speed for much longer periods of time. When in Henshin mode, you can control the rate he falls with the analog stick; by default, he floats along fairly slowly but can be made to fall faster than the other characters. In normal mode, he will strike enemies with his sword after punching 4 times in a combo. He can also double jump in normal mode; when he does, he yells "Air Hike!," a reference to Devil May Cry.

Dante[edit]

Dante, from the Devil May Cry Series is only unlockable as a playable character on the PlayStation 2 version of Viewtiful Joe; this is done by completing any mode. Dante can attack with swords and two handguns. The finishing sword thrust of his ground attack combo, when combined with VFX powers Slow and Zoom, does massive damage actually enabling a one-hit kill on Fire Leo on Adults difficulty.
