Violence Fight character selection screen.png

Once you have inserted your coin(s) into the cabinet of Taito Corporation's 1989 one-on-one fighting arcade game Violence Fight and pressed either of the Start Buttons, you will have ten seconds to choose one of the four fighters by pushing the joystick left and right, then pressing any button to confirm your choice; however, if you push the joystick up on this screen, the fighters' punch statistics shall be displayed, and if you push it down, their kick ones will be displayed (Bad Blue has the strongest Punch + Punch move at a level of 15 while Lee Chen has the strongest Kick + Jump one at a level of 18):

Move Power
Punch 5 (Bad Blue), 3 (Ben Smith), 3 (Lick Joe), 3 (Lee Chen)
Punch + Punch 15 (Bad Blue), 5 (Ben Smith), 14 (Lick Joe), 4 (Lee Chen)
Punch + Jump 10 (Bad Blue), 8 (Ben Smith), 11 (Lick Joe), 7 (Lee Chen)
Kick 5 (Bad Blue), 7 (Ben Smith), 6 (Lick Joe), 8 (Lee Chen)
Kick + Kick 9 (Bad Blue), 8 (Ben Smith), 10 (Lick Joe), 12 (Lee Chen)
Kick + Jump 14 (Bad Blue), 12 (Ben Smith), 12 (Lick Joe), 18 (Lee Chen)

Once a player chooses their fighter in a one-player game, both he and his first opponent will hover into view from the left and right sides of the screen as their names appear above them and the text "VS" appears between them; if you chose Ben Smith, Lick Joe or Lee Chen, your first opponent will be Bad Blue, but if you picked Bad Blue, it shall be Ben Smith instead (in a two-player game, the same thing will happen, but with both players' chosen fighters).

The text "ROUND 1" will then appear on the screen, followed by "FIGHT" as the first fight starts; the player(s) will then have 100 seconds (1:40) to knock out their opponent (who will be controlled by the CPU in a one-player game and by the other player in a two-player game) by punching, jumping into and throwing him (some rounds will also have objects the players can pick up and throw at their opponent). In a one-player game, the text of "INSERT COIN TO START PLAYER 2" shall also flash up at the bottom of the screen - and if a second player inserts their coin into the cabinet, then presses that side's Start Button, the fight will immediately halt as the text "OK PLAYER 2 CONTINUE" appears on the screen and the game will now return to the character selection screen to allow the new player to choose one of the three remaining fighters (and once they have done so the fight will restart with the second player's chosen fighter). Once the player's fighter has completely drained all of the energy of his CPU-controlled opponent (or either player's fighter has completely drained the energy of his human opponent), the text PLAYER 1/2 SCORE A POINT OVER will appear on the screen as one of the two gold "V" lights on their side of the screen turns on and they receive 1000 points for every second they have remaining; if his energy is still at 100, he will also receive a "Perfect Bonus" of 300000 points. In a two-player game the losing player shall have to insert another coin if they wish to continue - and if they choose not to, the game will continue as a one-player game but the text that flashes up at the bottom of the screen will have been changed to "INSERT COIN TO CONTINUE PLAYER 1/2" (if the first player lost and chose not to continue the CPU-controlled opponents will also start out on the left side of the screen as opposed to the right). Once both gold "V" lights of either player have turned on, the text PLAYER 1/2 WON BY A SCORE OF 2 TO X (X being either 0 or 1) will appear on the screen, as that winning player receives a "Fight Money" bonus of 100000 points; the text "YOU HAVE 1 ROUND TO CLEAR" shall then appear on the screen before the game proceeds to the second round. In a one-player game, your second opponent will be Lick Joe if you chose Bad Blue, Ben Smith, or Lee Chen, but if you chose Lick Joe, it will again be Ben Smith instead - and the "Fight Money" bonus for the second round is 300000 points (the text "YOU HAVE 2 ROUND TO CLEAR" shall also appear on the screen after that winning fighter has received it).

Violence Fight bonus round.png

Every time either player wins two rounds, their fighter shall be sent to a bonus round where he will have 50 seconds to knock out a CPU-controlled tiger (whose energy starts at 50 as opposed to the usual 100); if you manage to do so, the text "BONUS STAGE CLEAR" will appear on the screen, followed by "POWER UP BONUS PLEASE SELECT WITH JOYSTICK AND BUTTON". The player must then push the joystick up or down, to select PUNCH or KICK, then press any button to confirm their choice - and in a one-player game, your third opponent will be Lee Chen if you chose Bad Blue, Ben Smith or Lick Joe, but if you chose Lee Chen, it shall once again be Ben Smith instead (the "Fight Money" bonus for the third round is also 500000 points, and the text "YOU HAVE 3 ROUND TO CLEAR" will also appear on the screen after the winning fighter has received it). In the fourth round, the player must fight against Ron Max; although prospective second players can still join in at any time, they can't take control for Max, and once either player has been defeated, the fight against Max shall resume with the surviving player (the "Fight Money" bonus of this round is also 1000000 points, and the text "YOU HAVE 4 ROUND TO CLEAR" will also be displayed on the screen after the winning fighter has received it). Before the fifth round starts the text of "THE REMAINING FIGHTER IS ONLY 'TONY WON' THE BOSS OF BLACK-WILL-O'." will appear on the screen as a picture of Won himself fades in behind it - and again, although prospective second players can still join in at any time, they again cannot take control for Won, and once either player has been defeated the fight against Won shall resume with the surviving player (the "Fight Money" bonus for this round is also 3000000 points). For the sixth and final round the player must fight against a palette-swap of their chosen fighter (who is, as mentioned on the Gameplay page, his younger brother); once again, although prospective second players can still join in at any time they again cannot take control for the younger brother of the other player's fighter, and once either player's been defeated, the fight against the surviving player's younger brother will continue (this means that if the new second player defeats the first player, their fighter will have to fight against his own brother, and the "Fight Money" bonus of this round is also 5000000 points). Once the surviving player has received this final bonus, the following text will appear letter-by-letter on the screen, followed by the game's staff credits:

YOU WON ALL FIGHT.
AND OBTAINED NOT ONLY MONEY
AND PEACE BUT ALSO GLORY.

AND AT THE SAME TIME,
YOU DEFEATED
YOUR YOUNGER BROTHER
AND KNEW CRUELTY AND VANITY OF
VIOLENCE.

HOWEVER, NEITHER PLACE
FOR PEACEFUL LIVING NOR TIME
FOR CONSOLATION EXISTS.

BECAUSE
YOUNG AND STRONG FIGHTERS WILL
CHALLENGE YOU
ONE AFTER ANOTHER.
UNTIL YOU ARE DEFEATED
JUST AS YOU DEFEATED THEM
AND LOSE THE GLORY...

The A in the company's name is represented by their triangular logo, introduced in 1988; after the credits have finished, the game will go into high-score mode. Your score shall most likely be the highest on the cabinet to date so you should enter your initials at the top of the table with pride - and once you have done so the game will go back into attract mode, but all fighters except the four main ones' younger brothers will return for Solitary Fighter in 1991.
