Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune 6 R is a racing arcade game, that was put out by Bandai Namco Games in 2020; as its name implies, it's the thirteenth title in the Wangan Midnight series. Like its ten immediate predecessors, the name "Maximum Tune" refers to the "Maximum Tuning Memory Cards" which were dispensed by the cabinet - and data stored on a card for any of those earlier entries may also be transferred over to one for this game. Furthermore, there are ninety selectable cars that may be tuned up to improve the ways they look and perform, as well as what they are capable of; as with Maximum Tune 2, 3, 3 DX, 3 DX Plus, 4, 5, 5 DX, 5 DX Plus and 6 it's only possible to tune a car up in Story Mode (where the original characters from the manga comics the games are based on shall appear as CPU-controlled opponents, and the player must defeat them in a race). Additional modes in this instalment include Alter-Ego Battle Mode (where an alternate version of the player's chosen car will be created and they will have to race against it, and it is for a ninth time also possible for the player to perform "Dress-Up Tuning" and change the appearance of the car that they have selected in this mode), In-Store Intrusion Match Mode (which was originally known as just "Intrusion Mode" prior to the release of the aforementioned Maximum Tune 4 in 2011, for which up to four people can play simultaneously when a maximum of four single-player cabinets or a pair of two-player cabinets are linked together), Time Attack (in which the player must select a track, and try to complete a lap of it in the fastest time), Trial Intrusion Mode (in which a single player who has a Maximum Tuning Memory Card can play against friends who don't have a Memory Card with the same horsepower), and National Highway Challenge (for which the player has to aim for the goal on a highway while fighting a one-on-one battle against the aforementioned alternate version of their chosen car) - and similarly to in the aforementioned Maximum Tune 2, 3, 3 DX, 3 DX Plus, 4, 5, 5 DX, 5 DX Plus, and 6, players can again attain "levels" based on their progress, and "titles" determined by their style of playing (of which there are over 5000 combinations). For the tenth (and final) time, after attaining a new title, which shall be shown in the bottom-right corner of the screen during gameplay, the game shall ask a player if they want to overwrite the one that's currently stored on their Maximum Tuning Memory Card; as such, if they happen to prefer their current title that they had earned at an earlier time, it's possible for them to decline. For a sixth time, when this title was new, an arcade operator acquiring a cabinet of it would also be given an upright "Wangan Terminal" with a touch panel that players could use for three minutes free of charge (however, if they had to use it for a longer time, they would have to insert a coin into it to continue) to check the data stored on their Memory Card (if they had one, given it was now possible for players who did not have one to play in "Trial Intrusion Mode") and, if they so wished, replace the parts that they had received for their selected car in the game.
