Except for Willow, all characters are non-playable characters, therefore it is unnecessary to specify every time that they are "non-playable" (or "NPC").

Notice that most characters from the movie are human or humanoid, whereas most characters original to this video game are animal-like.

Characters from the movie[edit]

Rumor has it that George Lucas originally wanted to make a movie out of The Lord of the Rings, but he was unable to secure the rights. Therefore, he started to reverse details from the novels until he obtained a completely different story. This is just a rumor! No evidence of it exists.

Willow starts just outside his own home, where his wife and children wait for him. If he visits back, his health will be fully restored.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Willow's family is the reversal of the unmarried status of Frodo.

The respected magician of the Nelwyn. He teaches Willow his first spell. If the hero visits back, his magic points will be fully restored.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: the High Aldwin corresponds to Gandalf when he visits the Hobbits' Shire.

WillowNES charA01 Vohnkar.png Vohnkar (Phil Fondacaro)

He is the strongest Nelwyn warrior, but the village council determined that Willow should travel alone. Therefore, Vohnkar gives a good sword to the hero.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Vohnkar corresponds to Meriadoc "Merry" Brandibuck.

Two brownies (wingless faeries) loyal to their queen Cherlindrea.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Franjean and Rool correspond to Legolas and Gimli.

The queen of the faeries, who directs Willow during his quest.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Cherlindrea corresponds to Galadriel.

A proud Daikini (human) warrior, who decides to side with Willow.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Madmartigan corresponds to Aragorn.

A good sorceress who is actually the incarnation of a minor deity.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Fin Raziel corresponds to Gandalf outside the Hobbits' Shire.

A Daikini (human) warrior, daughter of Bavmorda.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Sorsha corresponds to Eowyn, shieldmaiden of Rohan.

WillowNES charA07 EloraDanan-Ethna.png Elora Danan, a baby Daikini (Kate Greenfield and Ruth Greenfield)
and Ethna, a Daikini midwife (Zulema Dene).

In a major departure from the movie, Ethna the midwife managed to escape the Nockmaar hounds and brought baby Elora Danan to the Sacred Towers, where she is safe from Bavmorda's influence.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Elora Danan corresponds to the One Ring, Ethna corresponds to king Isildur.

WillowNES charA09 Airk.png Airk (Gavan O'Herlihy)

A Daikini (human) warrior, introduced as a knight of Tir Asleen in this game, but a knight of Galladoorn in the movie. Later but official material clarified that Galladoorn and Tir Asleen are two different kingdoms.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Airk corresponds to Boromir.

A Daikini (human) warrior, loyal servant of Bavmorda. He wears a skull-faced helm.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Kael corresponds to the Nazgul king.

A selfish sorceress who is actually the incarnation of a minor deity.

The Lord of the Rings rumor: Bavmorda corresponds to Saruman, the white wizard.
