One-way trails and "Waste Idler"[edit]

This floor is the most confusing to map and to travel through out of every floor in the whole Wizardry series. The middle of this floor is a 15xl5 block in which travel is limited, for the most part, to East and North directions. As you move along these coordinates, you will pass through invisible walls that become solid as you cross them. When you reach the borders of this block, you will see fixed walls and rooms that surround the North and East sides of the maze.

In other respects, this floor is similar to the second floor. You need to aim to reach the stairs that go to the fifth floor, although that can be difficult to reach.

There is a warp at coordinate (7, 1), which you must use in order to reach the stairs to the fifth floor. In order to use this warp, you must possess the Holy Water item. Without it, the warp will send you back to the stairs down to the first floor at (2, 2). Some steps must be followed in order to obtain holy water.

  1. Collect Broad Swords. You can get as many Holy Waters as you can bring Broad Swords, so the more the better.
  2. At coordinate (7, 7) a monk here will offer to exchange your soul for this chest. What he really wants is a Broad Swords. If anyone in the party has one, then searching here will trade that Broad Swords for a Gold Medallion.
  3. At coordinate (10, 19), the apparition in the murky pool will trade a Gold Medallion for Holy Water.

In addition to gaining the effect of DIAL when using Holy Water, there are other effects when it is equipped, so it's worth bringing many Broad Swords along for this part of the quest.

It should be noted that coordinate (17, 16) is a brick wall, and you will die if you teleport into it.

Finally, a man named Abdul appears at coordinate (00, 19). He runs an Ethereal Taxi Service which sends parties to the castle. However, it is not free, it costs 2500 GP.
