Barbado Port and the path which leads to Minea are content which was added starting with Ys Eternal, and also found in Ys Complete and Ys Chronicles. If you are playing a version of the game which was released prior to Ys Eternal, you will begin the game in Minea.

Barbado Port[edit]

Adol awakens in a bed at the clinic of Barbado Port. Doctor Bludo comes in to check on him and reports that his son found Adol passed out on the beach. His son Slaff rescued Adol from an attack by a Rheboll, a fierce dog-like monster, and brought Adol to the clinic to recover. Slaff arrives at the clinic and speaks to Adol before Nurse Ayla chases them out of the room to let Adol recover.

When you next wake up, you'll be able to get out of bed and wander about. You can talk to Bludo and Ayla in the next room. They will invite you to explore the town, but not to overdo it. Bludo informs you that the portside warehouse as been turned into a headquarters for the militia, which Slaff directs. Ayla warns you that there are monsters outside the port.

The militia meets inside this warehouse.

After you step outside the clinic, you are free to walk around the port and speak with everyone that you meet. In fact, you are encouraged to do so, because if you do, you will be eligible for a reward. In speaking with people, you will learn a little about the plight of the port, as well as Esteria in general.

Many townsfolk are considering leaving their home to find safety in the neighboring town of Minea. Some, like the silver traders, would like to leave Esteria entirely, but are unable to due to the storm wall that Adol miraculously passed through. Speaking with Slaff in the warehouse, he can confirm what Adol has heard about Esteria and the storm wall, as well as the appearance of all the monsters that occupy the wilderness.

There's little else to do in Barbado. The only way to learn more about Esteria is to travel north to Minea. The bar is near deserted, and the Armory is locked up. It would appear that you have no means of defending yourself beyond the port. However, there is a way to obtain a weapon before you depart. Read the spoiler below to find out how.

Obtain a free weapon
You'll only get this sword after talking to everyone.

It's possible to obtain a Short Sword from Slaff. In order to do this, you must speak with every single person in the port. In total, there are 21 people you must speak with, including the selectable dialog with Doctor Bludo, Nurse Ayla, and all four selections with Slaff in the warehouse. Don't forget to speak with the man standing on the rooftop of the warehouse as well. If you speak with all 21 people, speak with Slaff. If you have discussed all four topics and opt to leave, he will offer you a Short Sword before you leave. Don't forget to equip it as soon as you can.

The path to Minea[edit]

Climb the hills through the path.

If you managed to obtain a weapon, you will have an easier time making your way through the path to Minea. If you didn't, then it would be wiser to avoid any enemies that you meet. You will only encounter the blue Curloids, and the living plant Oakrots. If you have a weapon, this is a good chance to practice fighting, and learning how to position Adol in relation to his opponent so that you maximize your offense and minimize the chance of receiving damage.

Regardless of whether you choose to engage with enemies or not, you must make your way north through the path to reach Minea. The ground is layered, so you must travel back and forth to find the pathways that guide Adol to higher ground. He must first travel right, then left, and then right again until he ultimately reaches the south wall of Minea. To reach the front gate, Adol must head to the left and travel along the west side of the city until it wraps around to the north side, where Adol can find shelter once again.
