Walkthrough map of original version.
Walkthrough map of remake version.

The land of Esteria is broken up into a few discrete sections. In order to solve the mystery of the vanishing of Ancient Ys, Adol must visit all of these sections at some point in his quest, but only when he becomes strong enough to do so, or has the correct item to grant him access. The map for the original version of the game is presented to the left, while the map for the remake version of the game (Eternal, Complete, and Chronicles) is shown to the right. The remake changes the landscape in only a few ways. A new town, the Port of Barbado, has been added south of Minea, along with a new stretch of wilderness between the two towns. The Plains have been expanded and now occupy several screens. And the Mountain Path has been extended by one screen to the east. Aside from these changes, a majority of the game's content remains virtually identical.
