Take on Route 24, which starts at the bridge North of Cerulean City. It's as straightforward as it gets.
The bridge challenges you with five trainers to beat (you may always heal at the Pokémon Center between each battle), ending with a Team Rocket Grunt, who awards you a Nugget before asking you to join Team Rocket. To the West, after the bridge, there's another trainer, and some tall grass with this route's Pokémon. Further North there's another patch of grass in the border with the next route.
Nuggets were made for players to sell them at Poké Marts and get some money. They don't really serve another purpose and aren't important. Don't worry, they're not finite items: there are ways to repeatedly earn them, although they take some work. For example, Meowth's Pickup ability can generate Nuggets. It can also generate Pecha Berries, considering that there's one obtainable on this route.

New Pokémon[edit]
Another Pokémon that is exclusive only to Pokémon FireRed. Most of its attacks include absorbing HP from the opponent, which is very useful for long fights without easy access to a healing center, and status inflicting Powders that are helpful when you try to catch other Pokémon. Oddish evolves into Gloom at Level 21, and can further evolve into Vileplume by using a Leaf Stone or Bellossom (after you defeat the Elite 4) by using a Sun Stone.
A Grass/Poison-type Pokémon LeafGreen exclusive. It also learns status inflicting Powders like Oddish. Bellsprout is a good choice for a Grass-type Pokémon if your starter Pokémon wasn't Bulbasaur. Its final form is Victreebel, which is more offense-orientated than Vileplume or Bellossom.
Its final form is Alakazam, which is a very powerful Pokémon and a great choice for your team. To evolve Abra into Alakazam, you'll have to trade it with someone.
