Dragon Warrior III/Monster Medals

Monster Medals are a GBC exclusive collectible. Each enemy type is capable of dropping monster medals, and there are 165 monsters that drop medals in the game. After acquiring one, it can be viewed by going to the menu, then Plan, then MedalBook. The medals are listed in order based on the monster's ID number (e.g., Slime is No. 1, and Raven is listed below that as No. 2). The medal will also list the primary region in which the monster appears (e.g., "Aliahan" for Slime and Raven).

Acquiring Monster Medals

If you wish to obtain Monster Medals, it is highly advised that you don't include a Thief in your party. The game will skip the Monster Medal check if you either win an item, or steal one, after the battle. You cannot control the first outcome, but you can eliminate the second one by not having any Thieves. You will want to gain at least two Bronze Medals of every monster (except for Cannibox, Mimic, Metaly, Blissbird, Metabble, and all the game's various bosses). After that, you will want to gain three sets of rare Monster Medals from Divinegon to the 1st Floor of the Ice Cave, and get 2 Bronze Medals off the boss monsters you couldn't hunt before. This is the only way to gain access to GranDragon, the game's last superboss.

Assuming that the game does not reward you with an item, and assuming that you have no other Monster Medals of the monster you killed last, you will have a 1/8 chance of scoring a Bronze Medal of that monster. If you already have 1 Bronze Medal of that monster, that will become a 1/16 chance.

Once you've reached 2 Bronze Medals, the "1/16" chance of getting a Medal will still be there; but there will also be an additional check to see whether the Medal is Bronze or Silver. Once you gain a Medal, there will be a 3/4 chance that it will be Bronze, and a 1/4 chance that it will be Silver. Then once you've gotten 2 Silvers, it will be possible to get a Gold version. At that point, it's a 5/8 chance of getting a Bronze, a 1/4 chance of getting a Silver, and a 1/8 chance of getting a Gold.

But, as stated before, you only need to hunt for 2 Bronze Medals of each of the monsters you need. The rest of the requirements will be fulfilled by the three Divinegon wishes.
