Spelunky is a platform game developed by Mossmouth and originally released for Windows. Version 1.0 was released on September 1, 2009, along with confirmation that the game would be coming to Xbox Live Arcade at a later date.
Spelunky is an action-adventure game centered around the exploration of a series of caves while collecting treasure, saving damsels in distress, and dodging traps. Spelunky draws heavily from La Mulana for its visual styling, character design, gameplay elements and general mechanics, and adds elements from the roguelike genre, using randomly-generated levels, being a dungeon crawl, lacking any savepoints, having frequent and easy deaths, and having discovery mechanics. It draws equally from the 2D platformer genre, including real-time interactions with enemies.
