Battlezone is a critically acclaimed remake of the 1980 arcade game of the same name by Atari; it was released by Activision for Microsoft Windows on February 28, 1998. Aside from the name and presence of tanks, this game bears little resemblance to the original, as Activision remade it into a hybrid of a tank simulation game, a first-person shooter and real-time strategy game. | Battlezone is a critically acclaimed remake of the 1980 arcade game of the same name by Atari; it was released by Activision for Microsoft Windows on February 28, 1998. Currently, this game is more or less considered abandonware; however, there was a website devoted to it at one time. Battlezone1 Community was, up until 2009, a long-standing community site which supported the original Battlezone 1.4 game, along with its The Red Odyssey expansion pack, and the 1.5 patch which fixes many of the original's bugs and adds DirectX 9 support - and the Battlezone 1.5 patch not only has many anti-hacking features to eliminate issues which plagued the original in online play, but it is also compatible with more modern Microsoft Windows operating systems and hardware. There is also an archived discussion/development thread headed by Ken Miller, one of the original Battlezone programmers, who was working on the aforementioned 1.5 patch (and finished it in 2017). | |||
