The King was constantly upset by her behavior. One morning, he summoned the Princess to his chamber..."

Santeem (Zamoksva)[edit]

Treasures Abound for Remake Players!
In the Nintendo DS and mobile remakes, you can find two extra Medicinal Herbs; one is found by smashing a pot in the castle's kitchen, while the other is hidden in a second drawer in Alena's room. After escaping from Alena's room, search the end of the balcony to find 50 gold!
Services
House of Healing? Yes

In this chapter, you now play as Alena, the princess of Santeem, who specializes in physical attacks and gets critical hits more often, but like Ragnar doesn't have any magic, and is comparatively quicker but more frail.

You'll be woken up by a soldier, who tells you that your father, the king of Santeem, is summoning you. Heading downstairs to meet with him, the king reprimands you for your desire to venture out of the castle to test your strength. Once he dismisses you, take some time to explore the castle and talk with everyone, especially Brey in the throne room and Cristo on the 1st floor. Be sure to search the dressers; you'll find some Fairy Water in the House of Healing and a Feather Hat in Alena's room, where a guard is repairing the wall. Once you've gone back down and talked to the guards at the entrance, the repairs in Alena's room should be finished. However, it seems it was a rather hasty job; examine the wall the guard fixed, and you'll be given the option to kick it down. Do so and head outside onto the roof, then up off the edge to the ground below.

At this point, Brey and Cristo catch up with you, and insist that, if you're not going to stay put, you at least allow them to accompany you and make sure you're safe. They'll then join your party! Both are magician-types, but while Brey focuses on offensive magic and is somewhat physically weak, Cristo uses healing magic and is a bit more capable as a physical combatant.

Take care not to re-enter Santeem, or you'll have to redo all the steps to escape again. For now, head west to the small town of Surene.

This is a simple town to start out in. There's not much of interest here, but take note of the man on the balcony in the north end of town; he'll be important later in the chapter. One man recommends you take the time to build your strength around here, which is a sound suggestion, as the inn is fairly cheap here. Getting everyone to Level 4 should do for now; by then you should be able to get a Copper Sword for Cristo (passing his Club down to Alena) and a Leather Shield for Brey. Once you're ready, head north of Santeem Castle to a village in the mountains.

Tempe (Tabarov)[edit]

Treasures Abound for Remake Players!
In the Nintendo DS and mobile remakes, jump into the well in the north end of town to find your first Mini Medal (#1)! There's also a Seed of Life in the graveyard, a Seed of Agility in the house north of the inn, and in the village chief's house is an Antidotal Herb in the pots and a Leather Hat in the cupboard.

If you speak with people in town here, you'll learn that they're being forced to sacrifice young girls! Find the mayor to speak with him about this problem. Accept the duty of saving the village, and he'll direct you to the shaman in the House of Healing.

Before proceeding further, you'll want to grind up a bit more. Make sure everyone's at least Level 6 and decked out in the best leather gear they can use, if you can afford it. You won't be able to access the item shop yet, but the inn is still available here, if a bit pricier.

When you're ready, head to the House of Healing and talk to the shaman. Tell him you're ready and he'll direct you out into the offering cart. You'll be taken to the sacrificial altar, where the monsters await, and will attack!

Chameleon Humanoid & Rabidhounds

Chameleon Humanoid

  • HP: 40
  • MP: 6
  • Attack: 28
  • Defense: 28
  • Agility: 50
  • Battle skills: Heal, Sleep Attack (may put party member to sleep)
  • Experience: 136
  • Gold: 60
  • Items: Lifeforce Nuts

Rabidhound (x2)

  • HP: 23
  • MP: 0
  • Attack: 19
  • Defense: 18
  • Agility: 7
  • Battle skills: None
  • Experience: 7
  • Gold: 20
  • Items: Wing of Wyvern (1/8)

This can a surprisingly difficult fight for early in the game. Have Alena focus on killing the two Rabidhounds while Brey casts Sap on the enemies and Cristo casts Upper on the party. Don't be afraid to have Brey use a few casts of IceBolt on the Rabidhounds. Once his flunkies are down, have Alena and Cristo hack away at the Chameleon Humanoid, while Brey casts Sap a few times on him. Make sure everyone's HP doesn't get too low and have Cristo use Heal as necessary, especially since Brey can be taken out in a round or two if you're not careful.

Medical Herb 8 gold
Antidote Herb 10 gold
Wing of Wyvern 25 gold
Thorn Whip 200 gold

With the threat taken care of, peace returns to Tempe, and the item shop opens up. Everyone in town is grateful to you, and if you head back through the House of Healing to where you fought the monsters and search the ground, you'll find some Lifeforce Nuts! Rest up and get a Boomerang for Alena if you can, then leave town and head northeast, then directly right to reach the town of Frenor.

Frenor (Vrenor)[edit]

Treasures Abound for Remake Players!
In the Nintendo DS and mobile remakes, the house northeast of the inn has an Antidotal Herb hidden in the barrels. A barrel in the graveyard house contains 10 gold, and a wardrobe in the room to the right of the fake Tsarevna's has some Plain Clothes.

Speaking with the residents here will have them tell you that they're currently entertaining the princess of Santeem. That can't be right, you just got here... Head into the inn on the west side of town and up the stairs to sort this out.

However, you arrive just as some men kidnap the fake princess! Chase after them! Unfortunately, the kidnappers will get away. Head back into town and talk to a boy near the item shop, and he'll tell you that the kidnappers are demanding an artifact called the Golden Bracelet as ransom for the fake princess. You can't let even an impostor's life be forfeit, so it seems you have little choice but to find this Golden Bracelet. Talking with people around town will have them tell you that they hid it in a cave south of here to prevent fighting amongst the villagers.

Before you head out again, take some time to grind everyone up to Level 9 or so; Cristo's Antidote spell will prove useful in the upcoming dungeon. Be sure to upgrade everyone's equipment, too; in particular, get some Chain Mail for Alena and Cristo as well as a Boomerang and a Wooden Hat for Cristo. When you're ready, heal up and embark south into the cave south of Frenor.

Cave South of Frenor (Vault of Vrenor)[edit]

From the entrance, go south to find a small room with a chest containing a Wing of Wyvern. Leave the room and go west to a fork in the path; up leads to a chest with 360 gold, down and onto the raised platform leads to a chest with an Agility Seed, and left leads to a path that loops up and right to the stairs down to the next floor.

In the basement floor, take a right at the first fork, then left at the second fork to find a chest containing a Magic Potion. Go back to the second fork and head down this time, heading through the path amidst the skeletons, to find a chest with the Golden Bracelet. Now that you've found what you came here for, have Brey cast Outside for a quick exit, go back to Frenor, then wait outside for night to fall before entering.

Once you return to Frenor at night, go to the graveyard in the northwest corner of town. Here the kidnappers will be waiting to make the exchange with you, so hand over the Golden Bracelet and they'll let the fake princess go, as promised. In gratitude for you saving her, the impostor, May, will give you the Thief's Key, which lets you open certain doors, before leaving with her companions.

There's not much left for you here. Buy a Chain Sickle for Alena and heal up, then leave town and go south past the cave, then southwest. You'll see a shrine to the east, but continue west and you'll come across a desert. Step into the small pach of grass in the northern part of the desert to find a Desert Bazaar.

Desert Bazaar[edit]

In the Nintendo DS and mobile remakes, the pots around the lady also contain a Medicinal Herb. In the tent in the bazaar's north end, there's a Seed of Agility for you to find.

As you enter, you'll see a guard from Santeem nearby. Talk to him, and he'll tell you that something has happened to the king! Sounds like you should return home as soon as possible. Before you do, however, take some time to peruse the shops here and upgrade your equipment; it's recommended to get a Scale Shield, Bronze Armor and a Morning Star for Cristo, and a Venomous Dagger for Brey. Near the woman surrounded by pots, search the ones on either side of her to find a Strength Seed and Gum Pod. Once you're done here, cast Return with Brey and return to Santeem.

Going up to the throne room, you'll discover that the king can't speak! However, the minister says that the old man behind the castle may know of a cure. Leave through the hole in Alena's room and talk to the old man, who says that Marone in Surene had voice troubles once, so he might know something. Before you leave, unlock the nearby door with the Thief's Key and check the dresser to find a Wing of Wyvern.

Treasures Abound for Remake Players!
In the Nintendo DS and mobile remakes, there's a Seed of Resilience also hidden in the locked room on Zamoksva Castle's roof.

Head to Surene and go up the tower to talk to Marone. He'll mention that an elven medicine called Birdsong Nectar helped heal his voice, and that he found it at the Desert Bazaar. If you return to the Bazaar and ask around, a man there will point you towards the Birdsong Tower to the west, where elves are said to gather. Once you're healed and stocked up, make your way into the tower.

Birdsong Tower[edit]

From the entrance, if you head left through the doors and go down the stairs, you'll find an underground inn charging 6 gold per person, making this an excellent place to grind if needed. If nothing else, be sure Brey learns the Snowstorm spell, as it can help wipe out entire groups of enemies, making your trek up the tower much easier. Once that's done, go back down and go up the stairs to the next floor.

On the second floor, take the path in the southwest corner and go up the stairs, then up and left to find two chests containing a Strength Seed and 1200 gold. Retrace your steps back down a floor, then go out the right path, taking the first path down, then left, then down again to reach the stairs to the third floor.

Here, you'll find the walls and floor crumbling away some; don't step outside the walls here, or you'll have to redo your progress. From the stairs, go up and left to find a chest containing a Wing of Wyvern. Going back down, head left then up, carefully making your way along the narrow path to the stairs; if you fall down, you'll end up back at the previous floor.

At the top of the tower, you'll find two elven children playing, though they flee as you approach them. However, one of the elves drops the Birdsong Nectar as they escape; search the bottom-left corner of sand to find it. Now that you have what you came for, leave the tower (you can take a shortcut by going down a floor and jumping out through the gaps in the southern wall) and cast Return to go back to Santeem.

Go into the throne room and stand before the king, then use the Birdsong Nectar from your inventory. His voice will be restored, and he'll tell you of the nightmares he's been having as of late, as well as giving Alena his blessing to leave the castle.

Cast Return to go back to Frenor and head south past the cave. Enter the shrine and step into the portal to be teleported somewhere new. Outside the room will be an inn; if you come here at night, you'll come across Ragnar on his search for the Hero. Heal up if necessary, then leave and go southeast through the mountain range, to the city of Endor.

Endor[edit]

Treasures Abound for Remake Players!
In the Nintendo DS and mobile remakes, there's 40 gold hidden in the barrels of the northeastern manor. West of the weapon shop is a pot containing an Antidotal Herb, and the inn's 1st floor has barrels with a Seed of Luck and 16 gold. The 2nd floor of the item shop also has a wardrobe with Plain Clothes inside, and a pot south of the inn near the town gates has 5 gold.

This is easily one of the largest cities you've come across thus far! Take some time to unwind, chat with the locals (apparently there's a tournament being held; that sounds right up Alena's alley!), and upgrade your gear; the Half Plate Armor and Scale Shield for Cristo are recommended, but not necessary right now. If you go into the inn's basement, you'll come across the Casino, but it's not really worth your time at the moment.

Once you're done in town, head up into the castle in the north. Continue north and up the stairs into the throne room, and talk to the king and Princess Mia. They'll tell you that the king proclaimed the prize for winning the tournament would be the princess's hand in marriage! However, if the winner was a woman, the princess won't have to marry... Both of them ask you to enter the tournament, as the king is beginning to regret his proclamation. You were going to enter the tournament anyways, but you may as well help out the royal family too, while you're at it. If you chat around in the castle, you'll also hear talk of another competitor in the tournament known as Necrosaro.

When you're ready, leave the castle and enter the door west of the main castle entrance. From here, you'll notice an opening to the left. If you head out and then down, you'll find a staircase leading down to a chest containing some Lifeforce Nuts! Go back out and up, then right and up the stairs to enter the Colosseum.

Here, you can go to the right to enter the stands where you can watch the fighting. Alena wants to participate herself, though, so you'll want to enter the room left of the front counter. This room contains an inn and a House of Healing, as well as a unique item shop. Be sure to get an Iron Claw for Alena, as it'll prove very useful in the tournament. Also, buy a healthy stockpile of Medical Herbs; at least enough to fill Alena's inventory completely. When you're ready, speak to everyone in the room, then exit up the stairs in the center of the room.

For the tournament, you'll be controlling Alena by herself in a series of five battles. After each battle, you'll be asked if you want to use one of your Medical Herbs. Take the chance to heal up between battles as needed, as you won't have access to Cristo's healing magic for the entirety of the tournament.

Hun
  • HP: 70
  • MP: 0
  • Attack: 45
  • Defense: 68
  • Agility: 20
  • Battle skills: None
  • Experience: 0
  • Gold: 0
  • Items: None

Your first fight is a fairly straightforward slugfest. Use a Medical Herb if your HP gets low, and you should be alright.

Roric
  • HP: 90
  • MP: 0
  • Attack: 50
  • Defense: 80
  • Agility: 45
  • Battle skills: Defend
  • Experience: 0
  • Gold: 0
  • Items: Medical Herb

This second fight is a little tougher, but not much. Roric will occasionally defend, which can draw things out, but otherwise not much is different here. Don't feel bad if you have to use a Medical Herb here, as he'll drop a replacement for you.

Vivian
  • HP: 90
  • MP: 12
  • Attack: 35
  • Defense: 62
  • Agility: 68
  • Battle skills: IceBolt, Healmore, Firebal, Defend
  • Experience: 0
  • Gold: 0
  • Items: Medical Herb

This third fight is where things get interesting, since Vivian can cast spells at you! Fortunately, she doesn't have much MP, so if you're able to endure her magical assault, she shouldn't put up too much more resistance.

Sampson
  • HP: 90
  • MP: 0
  • Attack: 58
  • Defense: 104
  • Agility: 15
  • Battle skills: Defend, Use Medical Herb
  • Experience: 0
  • Gold: 0
  • Items: Medical Herb

The penultimate fight of the tournament can be challenging, as not only is Sampson much sturdier and hits harder than the previous foes, he'll occasionally defend or heal himself to draw out the fight more. Just keep your wits about you and don't be afraid to use your own Medical Herbs. If you're lucky, Alena's higher critical hit rate can help put a quick end to the fight.

Linguar
  • HP: 55
  • MP: 255
  • Attack: 40
  • Defense: 60
  • Agility: 75
  • Battle skills: Create shadow clones, spit fireball (6-10 damage), Muster Strength
  • Experience: 0
  • Gold: 0
  • Items: None

This can potentially be the most frustrating fight of the tournament, as the gimmick here is that Linguar will spend the fight splitting himself into four, and you'll have to guess which one is the correct one. If you guess wrong, you'll eat a hit from the other clones. Fortunately he has the least health and the lowest defense of the combatants you've fought, so if you're lucky you won't spend too long playing this guessing game.

Once you've taken down all other challengers, you'll now have a chance at facing Necrosaro! ...Or not; it seems he's curiously absent. Unwilling to wait for him, you're crowned the winner of tournament by default! You'll now be taken back to the throne room of Endor Castle. The king congratulates you on your victory, and suggests you return home to share the good news with your father. Princess Mia is grateful to you, too, as she won't have to marry since you, a woman, won the tournament. Since you're now at the end of the chapter, spend as much money as you can, since it won't carry over to future chapters. Once you're ready, have Brey cast Return to go back to Santeem.

Back in Santeem, you'll quickly realize that, save a single cat, everyone is missing! How strange... There's nothing else for you here but to leave. It seems that Alena, Brey and Cristo have another quest in store for them as the chapter ends.

What did the dreams of the King of Santeem mean? ...the mysterious Necrosaro, why did he suddenly disappear?
...and what befell the people of Santeem?
Determined to solve these mysteries, Princess Alena’s Party embarked on another journey...
